Have you ever stared at yourself in the mirror for too long and disassociated? π
If I've made anyone's head hurt I apologize lol.
I think the "why am I me" question implies a premise that human bodies are largely interchangeable, and we get that intuition from the commonalities of our species. If you existed as a singular entity of your own unique species, it wouldn't be as pressing of a question. You'd think, "well, I have to be me. What else would I be? I'm the only me that could ever be."
Think about the biological separation between you and everyone else though. Think about all of the unique cells and DNA material that goes into making you YOU. Are you really as human as everyone else? Is there really a quality of "being human" that exists across every living person? What about people with diminished mental or physical capacities, severe deformities, or just general genetic mutations? If I start removing cells one by one, at which point is a human no longer a human? If I replace the cells with your cells, at which point does that human become you?
The fact that your genetic code was predetermined at birth in line with other members of your "species" doesn't mean that "species" is a physical absolute, rather than a social fiction. You're simply 420Rachel, your own creation. You're not interchangeable.
Hmm nope that's not really true. A lot of things aren't that unique and we all repeat the same feelings and perspectives.
I saw comment mention pain. Pain feels the same all around if you are a typical person now you might get less pain between soem people here and there. And you can have people who don't feel pain at all due to problems.
But typicall everyone feels the same pain. Same way.
Typical people view green on the same way. Again you could be colour blind or something else. But typically it's the same.
Psychological studies go far to prove how we all have similar traits and patterns. And how our perspectives can all change by the same things on way that shows what happens to most people if it does. This is how we know people and animals will respond to certain things because there perspective is no different to the other one really.
However were this can be said about how we have vasty different ones is in subjective things such as did you like that film. However again there is ways manipulate how a film is done to be enjoyable to many people whether that be fast action or a really intense build up. Or something else. Even just using a certain color in an advert can effect many people typically in the way they want. Proving there perspective of that ad was just the same really.
There's a rare condition where a person can be born without the ability to feel pain. It is called "congenital insensitivity to pain" or "congenital analgesia" . These people many times end up accidentally killing themselves or end up disabled because they literally can't feel when their bodies are injured or in danger. How can a person that can't feel pain have any notion to what pain actually feels like? You can explain what pain feels like to you, the mechanisms behind how pain works, but if you've never "felt" pain, can you truly understand what pain is?

No. I've accepted LONG ago, that no one will ever see me as I wish to be seen. No matter how well I behave or act, people will always form negative opinions of me. So I stopped trying to appeal to that, because I can't control their negative perceptions of me.
Only I know who I truly am, and that's likely to be the case forever. I see the world as a short, unattractive looking, doomed-to-single-life-forever, 30-something American male. I would've totally made someone else in this Character Creator if given the choice, but I wasn't. So I can't worry about seeing the world like the enlightened rich do.
Anyway, what you're experiencing is called an Existential Crisis. Like trying to figure out if you are really you and if you look in the mirror, is it your soul or just some NPC walking around.
yes, that was pretty much all of kindergarten to me... lol
and it still happens from to time, I do like to get myself "high" like that lmao...
but it is even more trippier to me, because I start to think about life, and the universe and all things... nowadays I usually end up in a staring contest with my cat while thinking about all those things, and when slowly starts blinking at me, I snap out of it... lol
Yeah its one of the fundamentals of philosophy really. And the over all illusiveness of what consciousness is. We still have much to learn about all that.
Don't be silly. You can persuade and manipulate others, and their actions to a large extent by your actions and words.
You're just not a fully functional adult yet, is all.
Very much so- but growing up as the child of a color-blind guy, with a best friend with Asperger's, it's kind of inevitable.
Definitely. I've pondered that many, many times. It's one of the reasons I stopped saying " I know how you feel" - uh, no I don't. Or how you see, or think. Best I can say is "I've been in that situation".
Yes, I wonder if I experoence love like everyone else does or does pain feel different to me. What is pain anyway?
I don't think i have any different perception than others lol but others always try to point out that to me 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Eventually when AI take over weβll all be part of the hive mind
I'm reminded every day cause everything I do an say is questioned.
yea, ever heard a recording of your own voice? doesn't sound like me at all
Ah there's actually a reason for that! The sound sources are different. When you hear your voice on a recording, you're only hearing sounds transmitted via air conduction. Since you're missing the part of the sound that comes from bone conduction within the head, your voice sounds different to you on a recording.
Neurodivergent people have thoughts like this. Welcome to the club.
Dissociation like this is normal provided it doesn't last too long.
Tbh I do the same lol
Is my green the same as your green
Color is easy; how do you describe a Picasso to them? How you explain the VALUE of a Picasso?
Yeah it's an odd thought
No, I just realized most people are stupid
