What do you think of the bible saying you will be compensated by God if you are persecuted or falsely accused?

I am beginning to see evidence of this in my current life. Every time somebody said or did something that made me unhappy, God would bless me with something on the same day.

I think its not really our place to know if he means here or in heaven however I do know you should not think of only what you will receive for it is selfish in itself is it not? This allows us to take a moment and think do we do something because it is good and makes us happy or do we do it for a reward because maybe in the end we tend to think of it through one perspective not seeing it is not about reward externally but just the simple fact that at the end of the day we can be happy knowing we helped someone.
