What do you think of this quote from Mahatma Ghandi?

Gandhi was one of the least qualified people to have an opinion on Christianity. Sure, many Christians are horrible at thinking, living, and speaking like they are (there are at least two G@Gers who are uniquely bad at it). But my question for Gandhi is this: What is this Christ you supposedly like? Who is he and what did he do? Because I'd be forgiven if I assume that the version he's thinking of is Hallmark Jesus, or Marxist/hippie/stoner Jesus.
I wonder if Gandhi would still like Jesus if he hadn't skipped these passages from the Bible, as he quite evidently did...
"But Jesus wasn't whi..." SHUT... UP!
These or the lot of other instances in the Bible depicting Jesus being angry, frustrated, abrasive, impatient, or sarcastic. For every scene where he speaks of charity and kindness, there's one nearby where he warns of eternal hellfire and those who will go there.
So quite frankly, if people "not being nice" is his contention, then Christians occasionally being "not nice" is the least of his concerns.
In fact, he'd also have to contend with the many Saints in the Catholic Church's history who have had disagreeable personalities and choleric temperaments, like Saints Jerome, Thomas More, Padre Pio (who occasionally punched and slapped people in Confession), Alphonsus Ligouri, Louis de Montfort (read about the drunks who disrupted a parish mission he was preaching), and Peter.
So if I'm to be completely honest, I have next to no reason to take Gandhi's opinion seriously.
That can be said about any religion but he's right.
A lot of Christians want to live sacred lives but their understanding is blurred or hidden so they do not know what the sacred life looks like.
Not every done in the name of Christ is Christian. I'm an atheist and I'm a better Christian than most religious people.

I think that you could get better at dealing, fairly, with processing information, this is a really important skill in 2025, maybe more than ever.
That said, whoever talked about this concept, be it Gandhi, my mother or an uber driver, it's easy to agree with them. Because there is a blatant difference between Jesus teachings and what Christians, as an ensemble, are doing. That's why I'm usually suspicious, by default, with Christians. With Muslims, with Jews, with whatever people obsessed with rules elaborated in ancient times.
I don't really care.
I am pretty sure he used that as a way to not follow Christ and to deny the deity of Christ.
That isn't going to help him on the day of judgement. Oh, I would have followed you but I didn't like the way these other people were acting so therefore I am blameless.
You follow God's teachings, the word. It doesn't matter if you like Bob or Sally over here who say they are Christians.
Everyone will be accountable for their own actions. We don't get to blame it on others.
He was just being observant. Some of the most vicious and abusive people in the world identify as Christians or Christian clergy.
Its very interesting. He says that like he's a cold Christian. I consider myself a hot Christian and he's describing Luke warm Christians who don't really follow God.
But then again, which kind of Christian is he not in agreement with anyways.
LOL, I think the answer he got back was "You Hindu's don't look as blue as your gods though..."
He would not fit in very well in America. We make a big celebration at Christmas time.
A celebration of greed and materialism for most! They might spend a few minutes in a church... their only time during the year... maybe Easter too.
People lie that he was tolerant but "not liking" people in line 2 is intolerant!
One man's opinion. Ghandi was hardly a saint himself. You can call out false ones in any group or faith. Ghandi was just speaking out of hatred for British occupation and was projecting.
So true, especially today in the United States.
He was right
