I am an object, rather my body is. You are an object, or rather your body is. The only thing that seperates me from an apple or a chair is the electric current in the brain. I do objectify people, everyone in fact. Your body is an object and it is the only thing that ties you to this world. Whether you neglect your vessel, train it to become an object of power or beauty or intellect, it is non the less a vessel, and object. Soldiers are expected to put thier lives on the line, to follow orders despite being rational thinking beings. This could be considered objectification. Any sort of command or idea that does not consider ones thought is objectification. You are not seeing them as a person with ambitions or goals, no they are an object to be commanded and controlled. For some reason this society has been brainwashed to only define objectification by the sexual, and then only the female, but it exists everywhere, and I am completely fine with it. Because after all, our bodies are just objects. It is up to you to define what that object does and how it operates.
Yes we drifted away from where and why it's destructive. It's just recited when anything looks like it and people start groaning about their problems. With soldiers and anyone else who opted to subject themselves to command it's acceptable and they can opt out if the so choose. But the general objectification of people or a certain group for no good reason is not on. Looking at someone and fantasizing about them is objectification in a very basic sense (not in the truly harmful sense) and that can be extended to porn and sex workers and media and whatever else people want to moan about when it comes to the ultimate supreme evil in the world: "Sexual objectification." This is ok and should either be considered very basic, not harmful, 'not-quite' objectification or just not objectification at all. Treating people like they are property against their will is not ok, they aren't furniture or appliances meant to submit to your will. Slavery is a prime example of objectification that isn't acceptable.
We need to stop using "objectification" like it's this super evil thing that we must eradicate and realise we all indulge in objectification in a healthy and safe way every single day.

I really like this post. I never could understand why sexual objectification is a bad thing. I mean if you have known someone for a while and that is all they see in you I understand but, otherwise it is just people being attracted to you.
Quite possibly one of the smartest takes on this subject I have ever heard.
Very interesting take. To paraphrase Sherlock, the body is just transport.
