I agree, but your analogy is very weak. Your comparing making a choice about your body to save someone else's life (giving an organ to someone) vs someone choosing to make a choice about their body that effects their own life exclusively.(or the life that they carry, depending how you look at it)
It wouldn't be hard for my to pick apart your argument if I disagreed with you on the subject.
Also I'm not going to point my finger at them or blame them for making a choice that was not mine to make, if I don't agree with their decision

It wasn't very thought out anyways, but it opened up a massive discussion so there's that.
Topics like this you will always trigger discussion since people usually have strong feelings leaning to one side or the other. Though however good your argument is you would be hard pressed to change anyone's mind.
By that I mean, if your going to argue your point you'd be best to be well prepared. Even Bill Nye's not going to change their minds.
I agree its the internet. On this topic I would say I am a moderate for women's rights in this matter. I don't necessarily have much experience with it, and prefer to be on different topics like philosophy, psychology... etc it feels more rewarding. But thanks for the input
No one tells women what to do with their bodies. Women are free to have sex whenever they want and with a partner of their choosing. But once there is a fetus growing inside, it's no longer her body. It is a separate body that she is responsible for, in addition to the father and the society as a whole. To say it's her body and a private matter is cynical, immoral, and damaging to society.
Its immoral to let women know they are their own person?
Women are their own person. That is why they choose who they want to have sex with. They don't have to have sex at all if they don't want to. BUT: when they choose to have sex with a person of their own choice, and, surprise, surprise, that intercourse results in the creation of a fetus, that's where she's no longer entitled to do whatever she wants.
Yeah I'm sick and tired of people saying it's her body. Like you said it's not a private thing. It's the father's choice as well. Not just hers.
What I dont get is when people drive drunk and get themselves in a wreck and you need an organ or blood, people say yeah sure no problem. But when women get pregnant, and they are considering abortion as an option, people say SORRY HONEY SHOULD'VE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT BEFORE YOU GOT KNOCKED UP!!!
We all make mistakes this just happens to be one that is difficult to deal with.
Not mentioned is that making abortion legal corresponded to a sharp decline in violent crime 18 years later. The argument is that unwanted and/or uncared for kids have a higher occurence of growing up to be violent offenders.
Everyone keeps saying to put kids up for adoption. Adoption, however, has many inherent problems: parent/child match, screening parents (which is definitely not always successful), availability of willing adoptors, funding, etc. It's easy to say put them up for adoption, feel morally righteous, and then cease caring about the situation.
Like any sensible human being, I'm not a fan of the procedure, but allowing someone who is unready/unwilling to be a parent to opt out is probably as good as the situation will get.
Complicated subject.
For the side that say it's about the women's rights to do what she wants with her body, if that's the case I should not matter at what point in the pregnancy that she is at. She should be allowed to end it, because it is still her body. Why should the cut off be 23 weeks if "because it's he body" is all the reason you need for abortion.
But then again if a woman will die from the pregnancy or was raped, I feel she should have the right to abort. Because in that scenario it was forced upon her. She didn't have the option. Or she'll die just to leave a father with a child that he'll struggle at best to raise.
I think abortion with restrictions make the most sense. It's not "right", but it is morally/ethically forgivable.
A side note that is semi related too. Embryonic stem cells has shown to be the most potent form of stem cell treatments out there. The things that can be done with stem cells is amazing, but yea...
Abortion is wrong period you can't kill something just because you're irresponsible. The only way abortion can be okay is in the case of rape or if the pregnancy is life threatening to the mother. Otherwise you made the poor decisions why should a person not get to live because you forgot a condom or your birth control pill. But since people feel like it should be allowed then there should be an abortion limit you shouldn't be able to have more than three or something. After that you should have to have the baby as long as it's not from rape or it's life threatening otherwise it's the carriers fault and she and her partner should be held accountable. I know someone who has had more than 7 abortions and that isn't right at all. Learn safe sex people!
Abortion isn't a right. It's a choice and should be available if you can afford it (unless the abortion is result of rape). I don't believe in the whole "life begins at conception" bullshit, and honestly don't consider life "life" until the child takes it's first breath. However, I don't think people should be able to walk away from a major decision they made without thinking about or taking the proper precautions that could have easily prevented the situation. Sex is a gamble, every time you have at least.01% chance of getting pregnant even when you wear a condom or use birth control or both... I don't think it's an issue of telling women what they can or can't do with their body; I think it's an issue of making women and men take responsibilities for their actions. I wouldn't kill the bank teller because I allowed someone to use my debit card and they overdrafted my account, so why should you be able to just have an abortion because of your irresponsibility.
Well I'm not saying that we should be telling women what to do with their bodies... but then again maybe they should avoid having sex if there's a chance that they will have to kill a kid simply because "oops, got prego".

I don't know, they can charge anything, that doesn't make it the truth. But by calling it a 'kid' you are putting it in the same category as the other out of the womb imbecile juveniles. They are not counted in the national census, nor do they have any vital details of identification. But the most important point is that , they are connected to the mother by umbilical cord, therefore it is a part of mother and should not be treated as a separate entity. But, after the cord is cut, you can call it a kid.

You make it sound rather cruel and extreme. But what are the terms here? If say , you are the mother and wants to abort the child at 8th month because of some reason, you should be able to do so.

You're right, abortion is a necessary evil. Glad someone actually admits it. A fetus is a human life, and it's tied to the mother's body and out of its own control. So if the mother decides to not bear it to term, it is murdered. That's sometimes necessary, other times it's what is most desirable for the mother. But it's never a good thing. Bill admits it, like he said nobody likes having to do it.
That title was very misleading and the scenario was completely unrelated to abortion. I am against abortion but there are so many reasons why she would choose that and sometimes it's a necessary sad fate.
I'm not saying I would get an abortion, but I believe it's the woman's choice. Like you said, a necessary evil. Things happen and tough choices must be made.

@DuckDodgers24th Once guys can carry a life form for 9 months and endure pain and possible medical issues, then sure. Things happen, such as rape, and it's the woman's choice on how she wants to proceed. Not only physical issues but mental issues can occur.
Because pregnancy isn't about your body. It's about the new life inside.
by the way i´m pro choice xD but as much as i like bill nye, i have to disagree on one point. i mean sure it´s their body and we should respect nature and all that. but if i put myself in the shoes of a soon to be father. and i´m proud and want to have that baby and i´m able to provide for it but the girl´s like "no i don´t want it, imma abort, because i don´t think you´re not the right father for my child" shouldn´t i as a guy in this scenario have a say too?

Abortion isn't a choice; it's murder!! How come you can't murder a person but you can murder a fetus? Seriously...
Because a fetus isn't a person. It is a collection of cells that have been activated to grow into what will -one day- be considered human. But while it is still a fetus it is not human. It is just as alive, just as much a person as your appendix. And we are all happy to get rid of and 'murder' those.

I completely agree and I also like to point out that even the people who disagree still have no right to force their beliefs on others. Just because some people are against abortion doesn't mean they can tell other people not to have one.
Also, I'd like to note that I would be in favor of outlawing breast reduction. It's a slap in nature's face when a woman is born with big beauties.

I like this. I think it's all too easy for people to say "well I would not have an abortion, abortion is wrong" but I think, if you need to consider an abortion, it is the lesser of two evils. Let people choose.
