The Confederate Battle Flag is about the South TODAY, so you are wrong about dismissing this as being untimely.
The Civil War is clearly over, so is slavery, so I'll agree to not debating those outdated issues.
Other than that, I have no comment since I am European and have only visited the north - however, I have tried some barbecue (southern recipes), very delicious indeed.
Great take. I travel through the South once in a while, and I work with a few Southerners. Love every bit of it, some of the best people I know are from down there.
I just never got the obsession with flying a loser flag, but to each their own. I probably wouldn't like the south as I don't like warm, muggy weather, I'm Mexican, and I'm not a fan of overly anything including overly religious people. Plus, I'm liberal af. Bernie Sanders is my type of politician. I can't imagine getting along with most of them folk down there.
Fair enough, you probably wouldn't want to live here, but if you like great music and friendly people, you might like to visit some places. :)
"flying a loser flag" is a rather passive-agressive thing to say. Being Mexican, I would think you would know about the Mexican-American war. The United States could have taken that country completely over, and chose not to. Same with Japan. But... they still fly their national flags.
And again, this take is NOT about that flag, and it was NEVER the national flag of the Confederate States.
Come check it out in the winter time if you are afraid of hot muggy weather (which is true in summer for sure). :)
I'm not a fan of country music tbh. Not sure how friendly they'd be to a pro-LGBT, Mexican, pro-choice, Bernie Sanders supporting, atheist.
But they didn't. The South was taken, however. I don't fly any flags not because I'm ashamed, but I don't like nationalism, ethnic nor racial pride. I don't really identify as an Hispanic, but that's what is most visible. I'm one of those super hippies who doesn't like borders.
I've been to Florida, to Disney. And I was in South Carolina for bootcamp training. And then briefly to ATL, but only in the airport so it doesn't count lol
I'd probably go, but with a white person chaperone so they won't hate me too much haha
And no, they do NOT hate Mexicans or atheists here. I'll escort you. I need to learn some Spanish anyway! :)
And I'm not big on Country Music either. Some of it is OK. That's another assumption you just made. Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass all started in Dixie as well.
And if you like R&B or rap, there's plenty of that too. Three 6 Mafia and Yo Gotti are from Memphis. And there's plenty from Atlanta and New Orleans too. :)
I'm a Libertarian/Constitutionalist - so I'm all about leaving people to their own political leanings. I think you're making assumptions that might prove to be untrue. But you'll never know if you don't give it a chance...
Not a marine. Unfortunately I was discharged for medical reasons.
I wouldn't say they all don't, I'm sure the cities are fine, but I wouldn't be eager to visit a little town tbh.
I don't know who yo gotti is, but I do like 3 6, and I know they always mentioned Memphis in their songs lol
I don't think you represent most people there, as the "bible belt" is in the South. I'm not saying I'd never go, but it's not on my "top places to visit" lists.
Then again, I'm a city girl. I can't imagine living anywhere that everyone knows each other. Or where it's quiet af at night. It's weird. I lived in the suburbs temporarily and I couldn't have been happier to leave.
Fair enough, just try not to be prejudiced about that which you have no experience with. I'm sure some people do it to you (maybe for your ethniticy), and it's simply ignorance to do so. There's nothing good about replicating that mentality. :)
I'm fine with prejudices and stereotypes because they're mainly true. Sure, not all Hispanics have big families, but many do. Bonus points when they apply to me, our family had my mom and dad and their 9 kids. Big family.
Of course in my mind I don't think every southerner is a gun loving, bible carrying, racist, sexist, Obama hater/blamer, but it's just funny when the stereotypes are proven true.
Oh, and I hate sports. Like I really hate watching them. And I know the south loves its football. I'd rather watch that guy from the clear eyes commercials narrate a slug and snail race than watch sports.
Especially since she's demonstrably wrong about it. I can't understand why southerners cling so hard to that stupid flag. Everything else in the take us so perfectly reasonable.
That flag is not the national flag of the Confederate States. But like I said, this take is not for debating that flag. You can read on subject all week long and barely scratch the surface.
Dude... geezus cripes please read before you reply and educate yourself a little bit.
First off, I asked to please NOT debate the Civil War, Human Slavery, or the Confederate BATTLE flag. If you need to do that, please write your own take. But I highly suggest you know what you're talking about when you do.
Secondly, no shit. It was used in BATTLE. Do you have any idea why? Again, Try reading a little bit.
Thirdly, The Confederate States only existed for 5 years. And slaves were NEVER traded under that flag.
Lastly, the point of the Take is that many people's perceptions of The South are way off. Do you know that MLK was killed in Memphis? Guess where the Civil Rights Museum is... MEMPHIS!
Things have changed. And if you think racism doesn't exist in the north, you might wanna ask people in big cities like Chicago.
It's funny how whenever somone challenges your viewpoint in this thread and gives you facts or evidence, your first response is "YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT OMG". No sarcasm, you are an extremely apt representation of Southern Whites.
Bro, a myTake IS an op-ed piece by definition. So YES, it's an editorial based on MY OPINION. That said, there are tons of FACTS included in the piece, along with my views/opinions.
And for you to blurt out that I'm "a joke" is rude, immature, and NON-FACTUAL.
So, unless you have something appropriate and intelligent to say, please move along and write your own take. I doubt you've ever written one, not unlike that one guy that shit posted over and over in this take. Those people love to jump on others, but aren't capable of posting their own takes to open themselves up to criticism.
If you expect someone to "Like" a post where somewhere comes in and says "you're wrong" about a piece that's simply a personal view based on life experience, I can't help you.
I'm from New York, big whup, criticize it all you want. I'll tell you exactly, so you can criticize it more, Mount Vernon, New York. Why am I going to take pride in a place only because I was born there? I don't own it or have a stake in it. You can say all you want about New York hipsters or Northerners. I take pride in my character, from people I've helped and what I've accomplished. This planet would be a much better place if everyone did.
It's all good man. I don't care where you're from. My dad is from upstate. I have tons of cousins up there. And I love to visit Saratoga and NYC. This isn't about that. This is about how you came in here making assumptions and slinging insults. Check your first posts.
You are just shit posting up and down myTake because you're a troll. You have nothing to useful or factual to add, only inflammatory and antagonistic hyperbole. So I won't reply to anything you post further. I will however report your profile for trolling. If you'd like to keep trolling and lacking to yourself, go head. Have a nice day.

NOOOO! NOT THE SOUTH! *crawls under bed trying to forget that I live in Georgia*

OH duh... forgot to mention ROCK n ROLL, which is said to be a cross breed of Delta Blues and other genres of Southern American Music.
Birthplace: Memphis, Tennessee
Not a marine. Unfortunately I was discharged for medical reasons.

well, the last thing I'll say is that actually most people that I know, from cities and smaller towns, DO have a similar outlook to mine.
As far as Bernie goes, I'm not sure, but there a a shit ton of democrats down here! :)
Anyway. Thanks for reading.
Hmmm. Maybe, maybe not. It's not hurting anyone but myself, and just barely because I'm not visiting there lol

OK girl. I get it. You don't want to and are not going to visit. Got it.
I never said never, but not top places. Relax lol
I'm chill. It's all good ;)
I listen to Vapor Wave.
Does this music have roots in Dixie?
Never heard of it. So... maybe. ✌
LOL.
R. I. P Saint Pepsi.
You shouldn't have opened with the Confederate flag part. Now that's all anybody can look at.
No joke. ✌
GaG picks which photo to put in the feed. It's not always the first one.
Especially since she's demonstrably wrong about it. I can't understand why southerners cling so hard to that stupid flag. Everything else in the take us so perfectly reasonable.
@Dandeus obviusly, you didn't even read what I said about it ✌
@Dandeus yup, I knew that's all people would focus on. There's an entire myTake below that.
If I didn't read the whole take, why did I say I agreed with everything else in it?
I mean seriously lol... you accuse me of not reading the whole take, but you can't read three simple sentences?
@Dandeus so you're "that guy". Ok. That's sad.
I guess I am. Whatever that even means.
I always thought of the Confederate flag not as a racism thing but more as states rights. But I feel like that's stupid, too
That flag is not the national flag of the Confederate States. But like I said, this take is not for debating that flag. You can read on subject all week long and barely scratch the surface.
Lol I didn't read the take I just gave my guess
And uh that was the flag used by the Confederates.
Dude... geezus cripes please read before you reply and educate yourself a little bit.

Like I said, come visit and see for yourself! 🙋
I never said ANYTHING about racism except I know that flag is not what it stands for.
Even if that was what it stood for, states rights was a code word for racism, now it's a code word for homophobia.
en.wikipedia.org/.../States'_rights
So doesn't matter.
Nice take...
Thanks. I tried anyway. 🙋
This is opinionated, nothing is factual.
👌😂😂😂😂
It's funny how whenever somone challenges your viewpoint in this thread and gives you facts or evidence, your first response is "YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT OMG". No sarcasm, you are an extremely apt representation of Southern Whites.
So at least you did what you set out to do in representing the South.

do you have that "southern charm " ? :D
I'm gonna say I think I do, but I guess you'd have to elaborate on your personal definition. :)

The Texan within me cringes ever so slightly lmao
