Colours aren't a big deal, but it's an example of a larger issue how influential and restrictive gender roles have become. On the flip side gender identity is starting to become big issue, so gender-specific colours and toys may not necessarily be a bad thing either.
The whole pink for boys, blue for girls thing also changed becauce of World War 2. Pink was used to identify gay men, and after that society switched the colours
I just don't get why people see it as a problem, nor do I understand the obsession with making everything gender neutral and pretending that men and women are the same.
Pink used to be for boys, because men used to use right, while women used white, yellow, and other light colours... but then shit happened and pink became related with girls, and blue with boys
Blue can go for either gender. Girls can look really cute in blue. I think the only colour reserved for a gender is pink. there's no two ways about it. Pink is girly. I can never take a guy who wears pink serious
Susan B. Anthony would be pissed at the ignorant feminists of today who hate pink. She fought to steal that color from the boys & now a bunch of spoiled feminazis want to give it back.
I'll buy pink stuff for my daughter and blue stuff for my son. Yes they will wear other colors as well, but this whole gender neutral thing it total BS. Do men and women have to be the same now?
You do that. But gender equality is not about everyone being the same at all (nor is gender neutrality). On the contrary it's about expanding diversity by overcoming the mindset that specific things are only made for specific genders. Blue can just as well be neutral when it's worn by a boy, pink can just as well be neutral when it's worn by a girl, assuming that one accepts that the colours could just be reversed, and nothing else would change at all. It's not like you have to do anything for it, let alone feel like you were coerced into avoiding certain colours for certain things. If you like blue on your son, that's great, and if you like purple or black on him, that's great too. Different people, different colours, and Love sees no colour anyway.
All colors are for all. But lace and ribbons do have a more feminine look

So it sounds like it's nature over nurture if in the 40s despite consumerism pushing guys towards pink and girls towards blue they ended up still wanting to swap.

I agree with your first sentence only. Not with the rest.
@Maxenios Fair enough, was just throwing some different perspectives out there.

I often wear a baby pink shirt, baby blue tie and a Black suit for work. seems to work really well.
My dad was like " PINK SHIRT? "
Dad? Who let you back in the house?

Colors shouldn't matter with gender I seen guy's wear purple and pink and even celebrities have worn colors that are surprising and shocking.

Interesting :) It's cool how neutrals are very in for both genders.

This is a non-issue.
Wear what the fuck you want.

@Maxenios What's your point? Raise your kids your way, and I'll raise mines my way. Stop telling others how to live their lives.
Pink pussies vs blue balls and purple erections. Maybe that's where they came from
Blue is my favorite colour and I think every colour is for any gender
Since you frequently see girls shine in beautiful blue outfits, myth busted haha!
I think color has no boundaries. Personlly I like green and orange and white, but only because my cat is white lol
I would dress a girl in what's considered boys colours but probably not a baby boy in pink.
Yeah I've never understood why we have to have gender assigned colors, I see guys wearing pink shirts a lot, I even have a pink shirt!

As much as i dont like this colour gender thing, i can't wear anything pink without feeling girly. :/
