Really interesting take, thanks for posting. Definitely get the whole thing of how laws have been made (debateably) preventing some discrimination, but the corresponding viewpoint shift (in n. America anyway) hasn't happened. I don't know how that can be solved, but it's not with sweeping it under the rug, as you said. When in doubt, I believe in speaking up. I hope my words will inspire other people to speak, which could slowly spread and turn the tide on overall opinion. With societal attitudes so broken and racist, it will take time, which is unfair as everyone deserves equality NOW, but it may be the best we can hope for. What do you think?

But you can speak up in the intergrated part of the nation. Why do people think we don't have much to work on? Even among those who claim they want to live in a multicultural society there is too much to do.

Hi. Yes, we definitely have a long way to go, and speaking up when and where we can is really important. I think that the tragic murder of George Floyd has sparked a lot of passionate debate, which I hope will lead to some improvements, but I hate that this change happens through violence, that we're not at a stage yet where nobody dies for rights.

I want to be hopeful too. But the problem I think is not George Floyd. His death just blow the top off something that has been resolved for centuries. We don't have Bobby Kennedy or MLK. We don't have anyone with the ability to speak to people and get them on the same page.

Absolutely. These murders expose what was already here. This is not new. And no, there is no definitive person really leasing the movement at the moment. Maybe someone will, maybe it will be a large amount of people, pushing back together. I guess we'll see.

Looks like President trump won't let this slide, you guys got to get your shit together, and that does not mean blaming all cops when one happens to be a giant dick and kill someone, but rioting, looting and burning cars is not going to solve much, reorganising your social security system is paramount, we have free healthcare, as such but it ain't really free, we all pay for it, and it doesn't cover much. So what you need is smart people that can get people to work together for the common good. What you need is work and education programs for the unemployed, agriculture, and trades essential for development, housing.
It's a logistical war with 40 million angry people out of work, it's more than the entire population of my country. Every town should have community gardens, where food can be grown for the poor. And the poor should not be left in their own shit to waste away. You all got to get off your arses and start solving your problems.

      1. You think the people in the streets rioting now, are thinking about trump? Maybe you need to read up on American history a little bit. You are not American. So make sure you get a serious dose.

Let me give you a link. www.withoutsanctuary.org

      2. Reorganizing social security, either get rid of it or fix it.

      3. We do not have free healthcare. What are you talking about? Even an Australian should know that.

      4. I don't know if all of that is necessary. I just know that "Black" people especially would like to know do our program supposed to work for all or just for some. Because if it is only for some, cut these programs out of the tax code, give us our money back, and we will build it ourselves.

      5. We have some serious problems. Sufficed to say, the world may have to get along without us for a few decades. It looks like we are having for another depression and we have to fix ourselves before we can lead again. You guys had better get used to China.

I think we can all agree that George Floyd's death was an injustice and a testimony of how the system is flawed in regards of the well being of its citizens. That being said. I am very concerned that these looters did not actually care about the tragedy of his death, but saw his death as an opportunity to further their own materialistic gain.

I do not trust the intentions of those people to advocate a better society, I would prefer to side with the voices of the protesters, not the looters.

Now maybe they are acting out against the injustices of capitalism? I certainly hate the greed in which our society is built and sustained upon. However, who is going to speak on behalf of the business owners whose lives depend on their business? Let me share this link, because I think it proves that these looters dont care to end racism.

I don't think we have to be ambivalent about the intentions of the looters. Of course, they are using the protests for material gain. That's why we call them looters. When I hear the term "loot", I don't have to go any further. I know those people don't care about racism.

things like what happened to Floyd are actually much more common than most people think , not only in usa but everywhere

if you ask me , police here in my country is even worse , many of them are arrested drug dealer , take the drugs and sell it to people at much cheaper price.

however , they are smarter than chauvin and his friends , they are capable to "play it clean" and avoid it to be leaked to public at "all cost"

for example , polices in here surely won't let someone who recorded them getting away.

Maybe stop trying to paint all white people as privileged racists that you can insult, attack and silence, while forbidding them to talk because it would be racist. And considering that you also can't be racist toward them, no matter what you say or do.
Because that's what the "equality" fight is, now. It did exactly that, painting white people as an evil entity that should just do as they're told and never question anything, that should always feel guilty all the time because as white they're responsible for whatever the fuck others can think about.

Really? So what if you lived in a place where all this nonsense of all "Whites" being evil is nonexistent? Or maybe you even live in that place now. But with the beauty of partial racial segregation, you could live in place where the media was on your side. The only media could be FoxNews and One American News. You could have a neutral zone around your segregated area. You could have all "White" businesses and industries. It could be a "White" utopia. I made my pitch in another thread.

Then the rest of the nation could actually go back to work on these racial problems. While you guys built the community of your dreams.

Partial Racial Segregation could be a good future for you!

Funny how you immediately get defensive and start treating me like a racist because I don't follow your little rant.
Guess the impression I had that you're actually advocating for more race division was actually true. Keep living in your little race war, where you have to "fight" an enemy who is just living his life without caring about your complete delirium.
Meanwhile, I'll just keep treating everyone the same way, regardless of the color. Something you will obviously never want. Not the first time I read you and it's always the same.

Defensive? You can have a great future in your segregated zone. Free from people like me, who keep bothering you by being defensive, even though that's complete contradiction in terms. You could be free from confrontations like this. And threads and forums where "Black" people are all defensive and whatnot!

Dude, this is going to great!

If we can get enough support, we could make this a referendum, just like Brexit!

      We can do this man!

      Yes we can!!!

You'd fit well in your own idea in fact. Imagine, you could be with people like you who keep fueling the idea that people who aren't for your race war are mean racists who spend their days scheming to hurt black people. You'd love that, not living with normal people who just go on with their lives and caring about segregation and other nonsense.
Again, it's quite funny that you, who is talking about segregation, have the guts to call anyone else racist :)
But I guess it's not your first contradiction, you're probably used to it by now.

Here you are, a fruitcake racist. With the opportunity to take a zone with other racists and build this community that you have been wanting for so very long.

And then you call me racist because I am willing to support you guys' right to finally create the insane crazed racist theocracy your culture wanted back in 1860, the Confederate States of America.

I mean that's basically what it is. It is your chance to build that racist theocratic state you have dreamed of since you were a little boy.

      That is racism freak.

And since you cannot abandon those beliefs why not live in a place where you believe that all day long? You can even invite "Black" people to your segregated zone to explain to them how much better your race is. . . if they will come.

I mean, you are going to be rooming with David Duke and Dylan Roof, if you guys want him released from prison or whatever. So that might be bad idea.

But it is time for division from racists. You guys think you are Master Race. Cool. Master Race your ass to your segregated zone, teach your children insane crazed racist nonsense and live your life.

But that's not an argument. Just because people don't agree with your insane plan of segregating people doesn't mean they're racist.
Damn, I've seen people spitting crap on this site you've reached a new height. I could almost admire you for that, that must require a lot of effort.

Preach about the scourges of liberals and mulitculturalism. Blame Goerge Soros for your ills. Dress up in military fatigues and march around your neighborhood waving a confederate flag with an AK-47 strapped to your shoulder.

      Be all you can be.

Why are you so upset over your Utopian dream? Why are you not happy to get rid of everything you have been complaining about since you were born?

How am I advocating for war? You are pissed off that people are angry that innocent "Black" people are shot and some even killed at the hands of the police.

To you that is the greatest injustice in the history of this planet. You feel no compassion or empathy for those who have suffered and died. I get it. To want police reform is to insult your "Whiteness". So little hitler why not live in a community where you can freely execute as many "Black" people that are stupid enough to live there?

As an American living in Switzerland, which has very diverse ethnic group tissue in its society, I do not see this recurring trend of racism that I find in America. I think that the best way forward is education and efficient distribution of infrastructure. In Switzerland, we learn about all the major religions, the cultural differences of different parts of the world in class at a young age and we also have good places to study if our home is too hectic for studying. At the end we feel like the teachers and the government cares about us and we end up feeling confident to realize our potential. To be a truly free and educated person is the best defence against archaic tendencies for prejudice against one another.

Well in European countries, there really isn't a "White" experience. We are talking mostly about ethnic or cultural experiences. That creates a different dynamic. Also in America, we have begun the embrace of ignorance again. Too many other nations are trying to embrace science and intelligence. And when you are trying to move forward, it is difficult to justify backwards thinking.

America, has it stuck in reverse at this moment at a steadily increasing speed.

I don't see how rioting helps your cause, surely it just confirms what many Americans already think about black people. These riots are the best gift you could ever give Trump. Given it's not logical to kneel on a black guys neck to the point of death in front of camera armed witnesses knowing you'll be accused of racism, is there a chance he did it to provoke a riot just so they can say "hey look how black people really behave"

Uhm I said rioting helps my cause? Where? In fact, that is pretty much not a belief of mine. I am pretty certain that rioting and looting does not help the cause.

As for what many Americans think about "Black" people, I am not here to get racists to stop being racist. I just think they need to be honest about their racist views. If another "Black" person acting badly can convince you about what I think, what I believe or how I behave, just say that, and get on with your life.

Because that belief is not only racist. It is borderline insane. Especially as you claim that the KKK cannot define you.

What better way for them to demonstrate their beliefs than to start a riot. And yes I would put Trump up to it. All this passive aggressive behavior is turning frustration and depression into pure rage. And honestly I’m happy to see it because this all could have been avoided if someone with power simply said “regardless of how our laws may change or how many social justice movements may emerge, we still hate you and we will still treat you like the shit you are. You and the future generations to come.”

Yeah, I would agree honest racism is way better than passive aggressive racism. But this is American society. And it is insane. That's why I loved traveling through Eastern Europe. There people didn't do passive aggressive. If a Slav hated your race, he just told you. Like there is a Russian dude here named Metalstrum. He is a racist freak. But he is honest about his racism. He just tells you he hates your race and it is disgusting and backwards, etc.

      Awesome!

But American racism not only has the issue with our supposed race. It wants us to certify and agree with its conclusions. It is vitally important to American racists for us to agree that racism is the truth.

"We want this... we want that.." yet we fuck up our own neighborhoods and do the same exact thing that the police do to us to eachother. Lost cause

I didn't know every "Black" person protesting was a looter.

Maybe you should get to know us "Black" people a little better. This is Boston. A city I know pretty well.

      And?

What is the purpose behind mentioning the looting? I hate the looting too. Did I praise it in "Mytake"?

I wanted to start a conversation about how we can heal and how we can build a future.

So what was your suggestions about that again?

You don't seem like the kind of person who will dedicate her life to "the community'.

Maybe you need to go someplace, sit down, and think about that statement.

My friend is Indian. In his late 20s, his parents approached him with a woman they wanted him to marry.

He had never met that woman before in his life. Those are the rules of his community. You live in a community that has no rules. And that is because, we think rules are limiting.

Well, let me continue since you did not respond. So my buddy, he is actually Indian and Arab. So his parents come with a woman and say, "hey, it is time for you to get married". They criticize him because up until now, he was dating different women here and there. He was hanging out in nightclubs. And they really put lot pressure on him. Its funny because he was the only reason why they had a roof over their heads. He was so young but so brilliant. He had a career in the technology field. So he paid all the bills at home.

      He came to me to ask for advice. And I told him this;

There is no wrong answer. There is only the right answer for you. Your parents are right. Their culture (s) have been enormously successful. The divorce rate for Arabs and Indians is insanely low. In America, their cultures have achieved tremendous success. But at the same time, this is your life. You don't have to do what they say. If you feel duty to your family and your community. That's good. But if you are going to feel bad for the rest of your life because you feel you married the wrong person that is not going to bring happiness to anyone. So just look inside yourself and choose the thing that will make you happy.

He told his parents no. I guess they were really disappointed. I don't know if his father ever accepted it. But his mother eventually did.

He decided to be with the woman of his dreams.

      He married a "Black" woman.

Community activism groups where everyone can come together even in a town hall meeting is a step in the right direction. I was able to be apart of a panel with police officers 2 years ago to mediate between the community and the police who were actively listening to issues of concern in the black community. This takes time and it’s frustrating but it’s one strategy

I mean, I think most people who want to fix these problems know there has to be some kind of dialogue and accountability of the police department to these communities. The problem is too many people don't seem to want to fix anything.

    I don't think we can,

Democracy depends on shared values so we can find common ground and compromise.

but the more different types of people in a democracy the harder it is to find common ground. too many groups. too many identities. too many group interests.

Eventually the center cannot hold. and you must choose. democracy or diversity

I think racists believe they control the conversation. They don't. I still have Indian friends, Mexican ones, Chinese ones, Arab ones, Russian, "White", Jamaican, Haitian. . .

Racists can't stop people from coming together. So I think we have to realize that. But people who want to build bridges of understand always can and always will.

How is it not a response?

You see you proceed from a false assumption that race represents diversity. Sir, race isn't even real. What race is this woman? Is she "White" or "Yellow"? Is she Chinese or Russian?

How can we figure out a way forward as one nation?

You guys keep telling us about racial diversity. Somehow racial diversity is the real diversity. Cultural diversity is somehow fake.

Race is a lie and cultural diversity has been around since creation. China is multicultural. Russia, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Canada...

Just because you are race obsessed do not push that nonsense on everyone else. You look out and see a race war, when the protesters are multiracial. The Proud boys are not.

this is a common fallacy, the existence of grey area upon a gradient does not invalidate the gradient (also she's indian)

it doesn't matter if race is real or not (it is, there are clear differences in frequencies of traits which is enough) what matters is the psychology of people wanting different things. This is real and you can't escape this by going "race isn't real"

so let's take your cultural diversity thing now... well yea its always been around and when there are too many of them in one place... they fight until only one is left. this alone proves my point. diversity will destroy any democracy eventually

"this is a common fallacy, the existence of grey area upon a gradient does not invalidate the gradient (also she's indian)"

It is funny, you have the ability to do reverse image search and you can't pull up that she is from Siberia. She is a Russian national. And a member of one of the indigenous tribes there. There is no racial strife. There is cultural strife. I mean in Ukraine, you don't know, but there is a war ongoing between Russia and Ukraine. People die daily, even as there isn't just cultural similarity, they are of the same supposed race. I have been to both nations and I know people in both groups who literally hate the other. I also know of vice versa.

These conflicts are not a minority.

Oh it absolutely does matter if race is real. Because racists claim it is an objective standard. How can it be when everyone defines race differently? So when it is revealed to be just cultural biases parading around as an objective norm you get to see all these assumptions are fake.

People don't go around killing their own people. If they think they have profound cultural differences that is the reason for the conflict. For some people in the U. S. race accounts for behavior. Well, that is just them announcing cultural differences or similarities.

That makes us no different than any other nation. Except for the one thing that racists cling to.

      The supposed objectivity of race.

Yes take my cultural diversity thing now. It has always existed and it always will. This race thing, it is new.

i didn't do any image search... i just looked at her and knew she was indian... its super obvious to anyone.

but i don't think you understand. the reason there is no racial strife between the indians and russians is because there is no equality. the russians control everything and keep the minoirities oppressed. thus creating peace.

if the minorities and the russians were actually sharing a social structure together THEN there would be violence because compromise would be impossible and necessary at the same time

"i didn't do any image search... i just looked at her and knew she was indian... its super obvious to anyone."

It is obvious that Indians don't live in Siberia. I learned that when I saw an Asian face in Russia, that person was probably from the East. But still very Russian.

But again, she does not id as an Indian. She may id with her tribe. Her children may not even do that. I don't have any personal photos of people in the East. Had I known I would run into this kind of ignorance about Russia, I would have taken some.

Its like you have gotten lost. What minorities? Racial minorities? Ethnic minorities? Cultural minorities? Which ones are you talking about?

Your point was about race and race alone.

Yet the Soviet Union dissolved on the basis of culture and ethnicity. Not based upon some racial grouping. Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Georgia, etc. all formed their own nations.

And there has been tension ever since.

all diversity is a threat to social structures. all successful civilizations are built on the minimization of diversity.

Your point was that racial diversity was different than cultural diversity. No one is silly enough to claim that no nation has cultural diversity. African nations typically have dozens of cultural groups within their borders with different languages and traditions, etc. I have already talked about my travels throughout Eastern Europe. I have been to Turkey and got a chance to experience the groups there.

Your "all diversity statement" does not really apply since the minute two defined groups come within contact of each other, you have diversity. And almost every nation on the planet has that element.

Diversity getting out of hand is just a subjective arbitrary statement. It isn't based upon any objective rational reading of history. The bloodiest wars in the history of this planet have nothing to do with diversity.

You live in a multi cultural society. And history proves that it just doesn't work.

Segregation might work but that would means millions of people having to resettle to their designated zones.

So unless you all collectively abandon your racial identity , it's nit looking good

Russia maybe , but it's not that great when you think about the religious terrorism from a few years back.

      China is definitely not multicultural.

I'm not confusing race with culture because in America and the west in general race and culture seem to be the same thing.

Otherwise you wouldn't have stuff like BET awards and various other African American organizations with very highlighted racial interest to promote a culture.

I'm pretty sure you heard about the "whites are guests in hip hop" debate.

      Kinda reinforces my point

Of course China is multicultural. I met women who were of different cultures in China.

I was a blind as you were until we talked.

      www.chinadiscovery.com/.../...rities-in-china.html

      And yes, you are confusing race with culture. And no, in the West we do not claim race/culture are the same thing. I think ignorant people make that distinction. But consider;

      1. Mexican and Puerto Ricans are not the same culture.
      2. Haitian and Dominican are not the same culture.
      3. Brazilian culture is not the same as Columbian.
      4. Cherokee culture is not the same as Blackfeet.
      5. African-American Culture and Nigerian-American Culture are different.
      6. Japanese American Culture is different Hmong American Culture.

I could go on literally forever. The point is people project cultural values onto race then blame the "race" for any misunderstanding. When the issue is they need to remove their ignorance about that group and learn about the differences between these different cultures.

Yes and even the BET awards had to create a section for Africans. Decades went by without any recognition of their contributions. And even now, it is only a small fraction of the show.

We ain't a race. We never were.

The dalai lama has been in exile his whole life because of Chinese persecution of Buddhists if I'm not mistaken.

And what does Tibetans and "Blacks" have to do with your argument? Are Hong Kong citizens a different culture also? And that's why China is persecuting them?

I don't think you understand what culture is.

It would be a lot better if we weren't one nation. California needs to be its own nation, and the South needs to just leave to save the rest of us the trouble of dealing with them. That leaves the rest of the country which is mostly worthless except New York.

In fact, not making everything about race unites people. Taking from one race for the benefit of another race divides people along racial lines. And you just wind up with more and more citizens opting to quit work and live off of government.
