Why are people proud of being assholes?

I have noticed a pattern. People spend tons of time supposedly fighting for the right to be assholes. They cry INJUSTICE when they are told not to be. I remember a time when being an asshole was not a good thing but it feels like people are proud of it now. Why?

I take pride in being a good person to people I meet; I cut out the (disrectpectful) assholes around me.

One particular individual asks me, "hey, why don't you smile anymore?"

I have the means to put these guys' in their places (through a beatdown) but, obviously, it's not lawful and I lose my job in the process.

Guess my point with my post is that there are still good people out there, too.

I'm only an asshole at work, but yes, I'm proud of it. Why? Because I used to be nice all the time and I was ignored. Now people at work pay attention to me and invite me to hang out with them. It's not like I actually am a jerk, I just say things a lot more rudely.

Spot on. It doesn't make them strong at all. They've never probably had any real adversity so they never learned to have real courage because you can only be brave/have courage in the midst of adversity or oppression. So, iow they are bored. I would say victims but a victim usually has empathy.

If someone calls you a loser and you're not mature enough to be able to ignore it then you deserve the insult -- wasting other peoples' time with it is even worse. And no, calling someone a loser is not enough to file harassment, they would have to repeatedly do it for it to even be close to considered as such. You should really look up the legal definition of harassment.

Your attitude is why we're seen as one of the most violent countries, with the highest incarceration rate, with a huge domestic violence problem. Someone calling you a name isn't worth a response, much less a legal or physical one.

You don't make sense, a person can call somebody a loser for no reason and that person can respond and the responder is the one wasting their time? No. It's the offender who had time to waste in the first place and used it to randomly insult somebody just BECAUSE.

Who said it had to be physical pain? That wouldn't necessarily stop the problem. Reporting the person very well could. You're worried about violent country stats but you're ok with being a complete asshole for no reason other than to just instigate discord and on top of that you think that a person punching you in the face at worst and reporting you at best is immature? Before you even brought up repeated offenses you said that calling someone a loser is harassment, read your own words.

The person who called you a loser is indeed wasting their time, and so are you by responding to it. Someone punching you in the face is assault, and isn't anywhere near calling someone a loser -- it's an entirely different situation. Unless you seriously think that someone has to punch you in the face to be an asshole you're substituting an extreme for every case.

Being an asshole by itself does NOT constitute legal or physical action -- unlike punching someone in the face does. Get rid of your self-absorbed pride, people have the right to say whatever they want and you have the right to dislike and ignore them afterward.

No, people can think they can be an ass and be charming at the same time and that only ever worked for Grumpy Cat because you're born with it. Much like sass, it's a gift (I. e.: Gerard Way, my sister, etc.)
The only person being an asshole worked for was probably Christian Slater in the movie Heathers and the rebel guy from the Breakfast Club and a few other talented ACTORS or special beings.

Because the most annoying and obnoxious people are the most insecure and unfortunately the most seen, heard and talked about. Some people don't deserve to be "popular" being popular isn't even a virtue in of itself. Hitler was pretty popular. You don't need to be in the spotlight to be cool. If you have to try to be cool, you're not cool. Besides most highschoolers are immature beyond belief. Wait until they meet the REAL world.
