I just read a question, where this was stated multiple times and it made me laugh. So if I wanted to be treated like a princess, could I just dress like one? If I wanted be a pro baseball player, I could just wear the uniform then right?

Why do people think it's ok to assume or treat someone a certain way because of the clothes they wear?

Because the way you dress doesn't determine who you are, but people will still judge you and treat you accordingly

its not ok, to treat someone poorly because of what they wear but, it happens
guys like him are an example he probably treats women horribly who dress "slutty" or "promiscuously"
at the end of the day, i think people should dress how they please, but to not expect people to show them respect, if they dress in a disrespectful or crazy manner

I agree, it just over steps boundaries to me when you assume to know someones sexual interest and amount of partners based on an outfit. And to treat them differently because of either of those things is just something I will never understand.

Hate to say it, but not everyone is the nonjudgemental creatures we expect everyone to be. People will judge a guy if his hair is greasy and his clothes and style looks ragged as looking lazy or filthy. People judge guys with big bodies who wear those weird t-shirts that cut low on the sides so you can see their ripped stomach as people with large egos and a bad attitude. People judge girls who show a lot of skin as being loose. Our brains just work in a way where we "size" someone up based on their appearance.

People who are formally dressed are treated professionally. People who wear lab coats are seen as smart characters. The way you act and present yourself, I feel, affects how people treat you. Just because you have the right to wear whatever you want, doesn't mean you should, as you have the responsibility to respect your body. Not sure if I used the best examples, but I hope you see the point. I am sure this'll get a lot of hate though.

I see your point and you're right people do judge and there's really nothing you can do about that but judging someone as a slut or whore seems so personal to me, why would you assume to know how many sexual partners they've had based on that and why on earth would you treat someone differently because of it. Like I said earlier, i've seen well dressed men and women who have sleep around a lot and women who dress "slutty" but don't sleep around.

Also I don't think someone doesn't respect their body just because they show it off.

We often wonder why you would dress a certain way if you don't want that reaction. What is the purpose of dressing slutty if you don't want to be seen as slutty. If you dress in sports garb we assume it's because you like sports. If you dress like a goth we assume it's because you want to make a statement about how sad and lonely you are. Your clothing is a reflection of you as a person and is a good indication of what you like or enjoy.

Lol yeah that was me... people kept asking for that and I was asking how old I looked... I get told in person all the time that I look like I am 27... yet on here apparently I am 15 D: this question made me think actually... as to why am I so opposed to the fact that women can wear what they like. As you can see I dress pretty conservatively, but most of my friends dress provocatively. I would say I wouldn't have so much of a problem with it, though it doesn't make me want to date any of them for that fact. I would have a problem if my girlfriend did it since I like my ladies looking classy but thats just me. Perhaps it makes the girl feel untrustworthy and to me... a relationship type of guy is incredible important. To each their own though :)

@GirlsLie Yes that is true that I shouldn't judge a book by its cover... however... It is quite difficult for me personally when it comes to clothing and how you choose to show yourself to others. To really come to an understanding when I have run into not the "greatest individuals" out there is also nerving. I will say that I have met some women who sleep around and wear normal clothes and even though they do do it I am just more attracted to them. I suppose it shows that they aren't as materialistic as well. But again... there are a lot of factors at play here.
