Right i know that we don't always fancy the same people but what i mean is there are people that we can see are attractive even if they're not our type...
for example here are two people famous people that most people consider both attractive whether they're are type or not. Brad Pitt. Candice Swanpoel.
Even if you do not find these two people attractive most people would consider them above average looking... so my point is why do you think people genuinely think the same people are good looking? All i've heard mostly is its to do with face symmetry.. but surely must be something more than just that.

They're celebrities and people love the celebrities. Even though I can't stand them look at all the people who love the Kardashians. Then there are the athletes and actors that the girls like. I'll admit, I'm so attracted to Karen Gillan but that's only because she's a redhead and I've loved redheads for probably 20 years or so.
I think beauty magazines and shows like the Kardashians are very bad influences on young girls. They want to look like them and if they don't then they think they're ugly. People don't realize that the person they see isn't the real person. Celebrities have spent thousands of dollars to be a totally different person than who they really are.
Yes facial symmetry but also "averageness" meaning the average face of two or more face will always be more attractive than the individual. Presumably indicating that you got a good varied genes which make you less prone to diseases.
But of course there's also a social aspect to it. We tend to find slim faces, fairly light skinned faces attractive these days. Which is obviously why Candice swanepol choose an angle that makes her look thinner. Similarily in Europe we tend to find straight teeth attractive and crooked ones very odd. That's not the case everywhere, in a lot of Asian countries it's not big deal or even seen as cute
Yeah to me that Asian women would look so much better with straight teeth so no disagreement there.. also i must admit Candice has a make up face without make up i don't think she looks great.
It`s because of society today. Not only girls are sucked into this, boys are just as much influenced. When we see commercials we are supposed to think that specific person is beautiful and tell ourselves "I want to be as happy as him or her" or "She looks like she gets a lot of attention". My theory is if media did not exist at all, things would have been very different. It`s difficult to imagine this since we have been experiencing medias for decades, but if we never did have it, I don`t think the fine line between below and under averaged people would have existed, at least not so much.
But some of it is innate. They say generally speaking heterosexual people around puberty naturally begin to find people with the opposite traits attractive its really more rooted in masculine vs feminine features and a natural inclination towards people who have one or the other.
There is a level of beauty that people acknowledge socially is good. Like your examples, socially we know that this is an ideal people should strive for. But we all have individual tastes. Give me some Mads Mikkelsen and Reece Shearsmith over Brad anyday! It's just we know these people are pretty because they are.
We see these people alllll the time dressed to the 9's or half naked, their job is to be hot, they have people who work for them to make them hot. Besides that though, they both have clear skin, bright smiles, shiny hair, and good figures (speaking more so about Brad in his younger days)
No one knows for sure. Some claim we don't like the same things, and it is all a matter of culture and influences which are subsequently dynamic over time. Some simply regard it to human nature, y'know, since we are all humans, we might as well like the same things. People have a tendency to like the same things (ex: round numbers, colorful stuff, sunsets, etc...), so there seems to be some general intrinsic definition of beauty embedded within us.
Some have dived deeper suggesting that each trait that humans find attractive can be traced back to psychological or biological causes. For example, men are attracted to women with wider hips because it is sign of a woman who can bear children and has the strength to carry many of them. Whereas, women find men with broad shoulders attractive because they signify his strength and his ability to protect. There are way more examples that you can read on - articulated in a much better fashion by those experts who have written them.
Personally, I find myself unsatisfied by most of the explanations out there. I mean, I am a scientific researcher (though in hard science), and I usually appreciate the scientific input, even if it isn't definitive enough. However, when it comes to this topic in particular, I find myself disagreeing with a lot of the theories out there. While, I find aspects of them convincing, I still disagree with a lot of their content. I mean, I can recognize someone as attractive, but then they start talking and I become extremely repulsed by them and aware of their physical flaws, and vice versa.
So, it is clear that there are some influences from nature and some influences from nurture. The question is, which has more influence? I don't find the girl you posted remotely attractive.. I get it though; she has big lovely eyes, full lips, nice hair, and her rack is worth writing a myTake about. So, while I admit that she must be labeled "attractive", she is not someone I would be attracted to personally. But then I look at Brad, and how dreamy he looks. Again, lovely eyes, full lips, nice hair, beautiful jaws... aka features that are generally aesthetic to look at, just like oceans, flowers and night skies. Surely, though, some women won't consider him attractive.

You'd be surprised.. I wouldn't really say we do.. According to American, or Western ideas these two are attractive.. But in other parts of the world, they might not be much.. So, it's according to the society you live in really.. And what they push into yo minds..
We don't. You post some obvious photos. What about Julia Roberts? Renee Zelleweger? Ray Liotta? Chaka Khan? Lenny Kravitz? Rosario Dawson? Zoe Saldana?
I can name dozens of supposed beautiful people that many regular folks detest and think are ugly.
We do though... people find the same faces attractive weather they like them or not... its not about fancying the same people its about the fact there are certain people considered ugly and certain people considered good looking.
Well, I can't speak for "we". But I can speak for me. And for the people I have met in my life. I don't know why but my girlfriend thinks I am attractive. When I look in the mirror, I just see an ugly bear.
But let's go to the obvious. Would Brad Pitt be attractive in Jamaica? To Jamaicans? Or in Vietnam. . . to the Hmong? Different cultures would come to different conclusions. There are African tribes that treasure heavy set women. Because of a cultural tradition.
The truth is, if we see the same standards of beauty, it is only because of the cultural exposure we have had. But even in America, I am quite certain that beauty standards vary from person to person, community to community.
I think the media and internet has really affected our standards. They've become more "globalized." We see now, more than ever, who and what is out there, in the opposite sex.
In the old days, people were forced to choose from the local pot, who they found most attractive. Now we're bombarded by images of models, movie stars, and the Kardashians, on a daily basis, and now it's like everyone is looking for a 10.
From a purely physical standpoint, they are attractive, as well as from a fame and success standpoint. But it's what they represent that makes them unattractive beneath the surface. Fake beauty by way of plastic surgery, how their fame was acquired, over-exposure in the media, etc.
i think magazines and ads and the like have a lot to do with it.
the entertainment industry has culled our thinking of attractiveness over the years by picking women and men with similar facial features to stare in movies and tv shows. be spokespersons for ads. and now most people find blue or green eyes attractive. big breasts and blonde attractive. caramel tan skin and perfect teeth attractive. there is no place for imperfections and therefore very little difference in opinion.
face symmetry is a thing but for generally the same features to be attractive too requires training.
p. s. this is not a conspiracy theory i dont think it was on purpose jist that over time the variety of attractiveness slimed down to what got better results.

Because science and structure a lot of people seem to forget that attraction isn't the same as beauty U dont see a brad pitt like guy walking on the streets everyday nor an Jolie like women Thats why theyre so desired, if everyone would look like them then nah
How do u think models amd actors are chosen? Embodying something unique, that somethin more. Sometimes its charisma but more often than not its looks

I think that's more often the case with girls than guys honestly. I don't really care for celebrities, i don't perceive them as any more valuable or better than the rest. Often they're more entitled and self important.
I prefer regular girls.
I think the thing that attracts girls about them is the status and popularity. The same way a girl can perceive an average guy as hotter simply by wearing a suit
from an evolutionary standpoint I think it has to do with genes. If someone had an appendage growing out of the side of their head it might be a safe bet that their genes aren't ideal and you probably wouldn't want to procreate with them. we are also generally seem to be programmed to want to pass on out genes so if you make babies with someone who is considered good looking there is a better than average chance your kids will be good looking and people will want to comingle genes with them
tbh i've never found brad pitt attractive. but a lot of it depends on a person's upbringing or what they're used to seeing as attractive. people who give a lot of attention to media hype/western beauty standards will usually look to certain celebrities as being attractive.
Face symmetry, but also characteristics that are specific to one sex or the other. Guys with a strong jaw look good... women with a strong jaw... there may be exceptions but generally not attractive. Girls with wide hips... attractive... guys, not so much.
Just because majority people find certain celebrities to be attractive, doesn't mean we all think the same people are attractive. These are people that are constantly shoved on our T. V screens, they're familiar face that Hollywood wants you to find attractive. People tend to confuse appearance with success. If someone has a certain standing in society, they're automatically seen as something attractive. Personally, I think Brad Pitt is overrated in looks in his acting abilities.
Candice Swanepoel is very average looking, you only find her above average because she is a model who takes better care of herself and receives more styling than an average person.
In a way, I guess that makes her above average because an average person nowadays is a lazy ass slob who doesn't take care of their physique/appearance and whole heartedly embraces obesity.
sorry but i've never found pitt attractive. his features are terrible especially his nose/nostrils. that orlando bloom guy and the depp guy too. dicaprio used to be attractive.
To an extent. Most of the time the fundamental characteristics will be the same, but it will always vary a little with our own personal preferences, there will also always be someone who doesn't fit the norm, but that happens in all subjects.

Beauty is kind of both subjective and objective. I definitely find Brad Pitt better looking than most, but he's not my type. I prefer guys who look different from him (dark hair, dark eyes, and more masculine). Everyone has their type, I think. I doubt that anyone would call any of those two people unattractive because they're not. In the end, personality and people's type also plays a huge role.
I think if you are average... some people will find you above average and below average (subjective). If you are good looking... some people will find you really good looking and also average looking. If you are really good looking... some people will think you are above average looking...
Looks are subjective but as a whole (I believe) there is a spectrum of where you will be placed by most people. If you are ugly... no one is going to think you are model worthy. and vise versa.
Perhaps because of biology. We humans are attracted to healthy looking people. Features like facial symmetry, good skin and teeth is features that indicate a good health and again have higher chance for a healthy offspring.
Not me!! Most of the generic attractiveness is artificial. Most celebrities male and female have the money to alter there features. Think about Kim k or Megan fox. An average working class person simply cannot afford a nose, chin, boob job. I personally find those people repulsive. Generic is so boring and sterile to me.
This has been studied. It's a heathy ratio of the face. Symmetry genetically translates to heath because it means you have been heathy enough for your face to grow perfectly. Look up the golden ratio.
I don't think this is true. As for the pictures I do not find those ripple attentive. I find them unsttractive, but just not my type. I've never found brad Pitt attractive and that women looks fake.

We don't *all* and that's the point. Megan Fox may be lusted after, as is Kim Kardashian, but I wouldn't piss on either of them if they were on fire.
Tell me how many people would disagree with that? even if they don't "fancy" scarlet they can still see she's attractive :) and the other person is not.. this is what i'm talking about.
The Greeks have their statues and we have our celebrities.
Remember that these people often look better in movies and magazines then they do in real life. Lighting, makeup, professional hair stylist, etc shows the "best" of them.
Also ladies I don't know why you waste so much time dreaming of getting in bed with a young Brad Pitt or Ryan gosling. Some guys do this with celebrities but not nearly to extent you do. It's not reality.
Proportionality, youthfulness (in that picture Brad is still young) and that she looks very feminine in that picture (large eyes, full lips etc) and he looks masculine but not extremely masculine
Yup What we find attractive is much more complicated its based on the way we grew up our culture life style i dont find these looks attractive and im sure many people would agree with me i read once that what we find attractive is someone who remind us of our parents and its true most of my female friends end up liking and even getting married to people who look like their fathers.
I'd say 90% would say he is above average even if he is not there type.. but yeah i can agree strongly that different cultures find different people attractive... but i can only go by what i know in the western culture i live in :)
Well im in the western culture too and believe me nowadays they are not into these looks they want more mysterious looks black hair and black eyes and brown eyes :)
Attractive is attractive. People love to say that "this attractive is the only attractive", for a multitude of reasons. That's why some peoples attractive has become the 'standard' attractive while others are ugly.
I'm referring to attractive features. A person can have unattractive proportion body and face and still be in excellent health. Good weight good muscle tone healthy skin clear eyes shiny hair excellent nutrition exercises.. can still have proportions that are unattractive. Being pretty has nothing to do with being healthy. You may look unattractive if you are not healthy BUT health does not equal attractive. If people were attracted to health models would not be very tall and skinny with small waists with boy hips. They'd be stocky with moderate height and solid fat padding and wide hips. And the cheekbones and nose and lips would be any kind if shape as long as they are healthy. This is not the case bc attractive is based on convention but health.
Broad noses are healthier bc you have superior ventilatation , but large broad noses are not considered attractive. Not large foreheads or large chins, though these are perfectly "healthy" features.
@AriadneSky Attractive people dont necessarily have to be healthy themselves, but they do have healthy genes, meaning their children will be healthy. If you're born to overweight people, but you absolutely kill yourself in the gym and end up being in top physical shape, you will still have "overweight" genes and your kid will be overweight unless he kills himself in the gym too.
Regardless of our genetics, we really do have great control over our health, but people who are attractive will have kids who are "naturally" healthy
@AriadneSky and no high cheekbones, a proportional face, and a low jawline are signs that the guy has healthy genes. Healthy genes is what gives guys those features to begin with.
Why do you assume that 'WE ALL" find them attractive? Personally, I couldn't care one little bit, for either!! Neither one does anything for me! Both look fake, and 'plastic', Photoshopped!!
We don't all fancy them... we do all find the same people attractive though because of the fact there are people considered ugly or good looking.. the majority is what i'm talking about you're in the minority.

To a point yes.. there are people in the world that mostly all people can see are attractive.. i'm not saying we will always fancy that person which is why i put type.. but most people do tend to be attracted to the same people.. that why we have people who are considered more desirable than others as lots of people are attracted to them.
I remember seeing research explaining that men are generally uniform in their ratings of women. But there is much more variety in women's ratings of men. I've seen this on gag "rate me" questions.
I would probably say that they exude confidence and look like they know in. Confidence is sexy to just about everyone.

No we don't. Just tere are many that we know are supposedly attractive even though we don't find them attractive cause that's what the media potrays as attractive
Because there are human traits that evolution taught us over time to find attractive. Such as wealth, strength, good facial structure, etc. It's pretty straight forward when it's coming from the human perspective in general, but given that everyone's opinion varies so widely now that we have world communication and other modern things that take us farther and farther from those evolutionary "norms", I'd say that'll change over time to be less straight forward.
