Does having a low GPA in high school ruin your life?

Okay, my GPA is 2.1. Meaning it's a C average.

when I tell people about my GPA in high school most of them all say that I'm going to have a low paying job and low income for the rest of my life. And too add they say I'm either going to be a strip*er or it's going to be impossible or at least nearly impossible for me to make good money because of how my grades were in high school. I saw a study and it says that the most I'll make with the GPA I have is under 30 thousand a year for my rest of my life. Others say that people won't hire me for jobs because of my GPA in high school. :/ and people hire you based on your GPA. I'm told that In life I'm either going to be struggling to make money or I'm going to be a failure due to my GPA and how little job experience I have.

NO, it doesn't.

For all the many flaws in the USA education system, the ONE positive aspect of it is that it allows you to "make a fresh start", if you really want to do it, even if you frittered away high school, or worse, were stuck in a hostile high school.

I take it you are a senior in high school? OK, what to do:

1. Get out of high school as soon as you can. Often times it is not you, so much as it is the environment in which you are stuck. Abusive peers, discouraging and sometimes even sadistic teachers, and other factors can be at work.

2. DON'T try for college, not right now. You clearly are not sure what you want to do, and sending "undeclared" and unfocused kids to college is a waste of time.

3. Work a job--any job. Find the best one you can, and "trade up", whenever you can get a better one. After a while, the dreariness of a job will probably motivate you to study.

4. Are you a vocational rather than an academic person? There are great opportunities in trade schools, where you can really use your hands, ranging from cosmetology to computer technicians, manicures to mechanics. There are ways to learn and develop skills that do not involve sitting in a boring classroom, listening to boring lectures, and reading boring books preparing for boring exams.

5. Once you have figured it out, and in time you will, the whole community college system is set up for you to make a fresh start.

I know but my parents really wanted me to go into college and take out loans but I didn't want to do that. :/

Convince them you are just NOT ready and the money would be wasted. Tell them you need to experience the real world of work for a while. NOTE: this means actually working, and not just hanging around the house. In fact, you should avoid being around the house as much as possible.

I know. I've always been different from people and did things differently. My parents always viewed this as a bad thing

If you're planning on going to college and getting a degree, then jobs will only see your college grades not your high school grades. So you have a chance to redeem yourself if you're planning to resolve and work hard to get into a college and work hard on your degree. The main problem right now is that colleges will see your high school grades and be less likely to give you scholarship money (or accept you at all depending on their acceptance rate; some universities are pickier than others, mine accepted almost anyone who graduated high school).

Another option is to go to community college and get an associate's degree, which would at least give you another chance to redeem yourself.

Worst case scenario if you graduate high school with a 2.1 you're better off than the people who didn't graduate or got below a 2.0

It wont' ruin your life, as if the great thing with life is there are many ways to do things. It will be harder, if you want "less" obstacles then having a good gpa only guarantees more options for you of colleges and it also builds your confidence in achieving things. School really is just a way to build individuals to be more balanced. Like after school life, those same ideas will apply to your work, friends etc

It's not going to ruin your life but I do believe it will make you have to work harder than others to reach a similar success. There may be more challenges because people will be biased for someone else with a higher gpa because they will tend to have more opportunities for more experience. But you have the power to overcome it if you prove them wrong with your capabilities.

C average is enough to get into community colleges. You can do your prerequisites at a community college. Your prerequisites will be way easier and cheaper at a community college but they still count even at big name colleges.

My mom is not letting me go to community college. :/ she says it's for poor people who won't amount to anything. She's been pushing me to go to a four college instead. I didn't want to go to college right now but it's up to her what's best for me. :/

Show her success stories of people from community colleges. Can you get a job, save up money, and pay for classes yourself? That might work since you don't want to go to college right now.

if your going straight to work after high school, they won't even look at your GPA. If you're going to college you should go to a community college first and raise your GPA there so you can transfer into a better Univertisy

If you do well now and if you have street smartness and know how to speak and convince people you will be more successful than the toppers who are reserved and don't know how to convince people

It doesn't ruin your life. Learn about trading in stocks and bonds. Or become an Insurance Agent. Or become a Real Estate Broker.

high school GPA only matters in the job market if you are not planning on going to trade school or 2 year community/4 year college. If you are pursuing higher education, and you got in a community college , it won't matter at all.

Forget everyone else it's not their business and their job or gpa I say you do what you want and ignore them you can be what you want to be without people judging you for your choice
