If a man grabs you by the hair is that a form of abuse?

It's a long story but we've been roommates/ in a relationship for 7 months. I'm not happy with him because he's a narcissist and liar, I ended things because of this. I'm moving out to get my own place soon. Apparently he has feelings for me and wants a relationship with me but I can't do it. He made me feel unappreciated among other things so I started talking to other men (he knows). He's a painter and hasn't been getting any work because of the weather and he's mad because his taxes are coming up and that I don't want a relationship.

Yesterday I playfully grabbed as his ass as I ALWAYS do and he seems to get annoyed about it especially now after the fact we're broken up. He's not comfortable with me grabbing his ass anymore apparently. So then he grabs me by my hair (not extremely hard to hurt me) but aggressive enough. I told him I wanted an apology and if he ever did that again I'm hitting him with an object. Why should I have to ask for an apology?
