My ex said he was going to call but didn't what does it mean?

Ok me and my ex dated for a year and seven months we broke up purely because he was going away to college and felt it was the right thing to do. I didn't really want to break up but he had a good point we both would be miserable without being able to see each other. he was super upset when he left, we both cried for 3 hours. I hyave been having some health issues and had a test to see what was wrong, luckily everything was ok and he wanted me to call him and tel him what was wrong. I called him and he was in such a good mood, he told me how worried he was about me. Then he told me you know you can call me just to talk right? I said ok and then he said I really really enjoy hearing from you and then kept trying to convince me of that. he was busy when I called so told me he would call me that night so we could just talk. Then he never called, turns out he got caught up in homework then the next day he was writing a paper and said if he finished he would call me. I haven't talked to him since then and I am not sure what to do or what that all meant, what should I do?

i think he's trying 2 give you the signals that we can still be friends but nothing more .but I guess u're new 2 that so you didn't ger it.he's starting his new academic life away from u.so you should do the same.am not saying don't talk 2 him you can call him every now and then but I really suggest that u'd take sm time off.as in don't call4 a couple of weeks .keep ur distance and try 2 live ur life without him.
