No, although it's a very dumb and rude thing to say, it's not ironic. The US Southwest was part of Mexico for less than 25 years and Mexico had only nominal control over the vast majority of it because it was sparsely populated and there were numerous Comanche raids to the extent that many Mexicans were glad to be rid of the territory if the US would stop the raids, as was promised when the 1848 treaty ending the war was negotiated.
Used to doesn't mean is.
If that territory is now of the US, you can only be there if they're ok with it.
Excluding this little logical explanation, why would a mexican want to go to US the way it is right now?
You're better off in Mexico, and this will only get better as time goes. America is dipping down hard and it's not a thing that will stop anytime soon.
Many countries used to be other countries. What matters is who is sovereign now. That's why it was settled that way. Would Russia let Poland start taking back territory? Would Hungary let Germany take over? Would you let the last person who owned your house move back in?
I don't support people treating others that way, however your logic doesn't make much sense to me. Yes, a large portion of the US used to belong to Mexico, but we fought them for the land and won, so it belongs to us now. That area on that map now belongs to the United States and it's never going to belong to Mexico again.
you show a clear lack of understanding of history. the parts of america that were part of mexico were all in open rebellion against santa anna BEFORE america annexed them. california left mexico's control 10 years before america showed up
when the alamo happened it wasn't just full of americans... but 12 mexican separatist soldiers fighting to free texas from mexican control. mexico was losing control of texas 50 years before we showed up
