At this point there are more people dying of Alzheimer’s then Covid 19 in the United States we had 290 deaths yesterday Alzheimer’s deaths a day is it in the 300s maybe we shouldn’t have a brain because it’s more likely to kill us than Covid. We had 600 traffic deaths over July 4th weekend not to mention the deaths that’s happened from July 4 until now. Should we not be allowed to drive ever again.

i understand at the beginning the goal was not to overwhelm the hospitals now with everyone over the age of 12 has had the opportunity to get vaccinated isn’t the CDC acting extreme in there standards it seems that there goal is 0 Covid throughout the world otherwise we can’t get back to normal life. Australia is locking down again after 32 death in a county of 25 million at this point it’s seems ridiculous those who are fully vaccinated have nothing to worry about at this point

Are you still locked down? Most countries allow most things to continue, just not always things like mass indoor events.

The point with Alzheimer's is that it's always 300 a day (assuming your numbers are correct), which would be one in a million. Covid has been killing at least twice as many every day since early last year, and up to ten times as many.

There is an argument to let the fools spread it and get sick or die, but it's better if they can still be reached (and give the sensible ones a chance to get their second shots and wait for it to work).

But the federal government is saying we need to lock down again. Some states and local government are going along with it others in more red areas are saying “fuck no”. My guess is most governments are trying to get it to where we have 0 cases globally before we can return to normal life, which will never happen

Well, at least in Washington, the number of new cases has doubled in a little over 2 weeks and are still rising. It bottomed out at about 350, and is now over 1000 a day. Exponential growth is a bad thing, especially when many people aren't vaccinated.

Australia's behind in their vaccinations, so locking down for any number of infections is sensible, it's why they were living a normal life for months.

Alzheimer’s isn't contagious. The number of daily new cases has exceeded the second peak this time last year, and is still rising (although the death rate is much lower - the vaccines work!).

I think you're being unfair to government. I think they're trying to get to the point where, if there's an outbreak, it dies out by itself, because there aren't enough vulnerable people to spread it widely. That seems to be over 70% fully vaccinated and/or most people masked.

True the case rate is up but the death rate is significantly down in Washington. Most of the elderly has been vaccinated. It’s primarily younger people who aren’t getting vaccinated (now I think one should get vaccinated but if a 18-35 year old get it there not likely to die form it. Most people I’ve talked to are worried about reproduction, it’s only approved for emergency use and we don’t know long term side effects. Or people just feel comfort with out it and think getting Covid is worth the risk (mainly young). Seattle is of course the main place people are getting Covid. Not much anywhere else.

Given the government pretty much botched the role out of the vaccine with the idea there going to prioritize race over age doesn’t help people confidence in the vaccine, The fact you had people like Andrew coumo saying it came out under trump so you can’t trust the vaccine didn’t help, nor does it help that they were telling people if your vaccinated wear a mask, Why would people volunteer to get the vaccine if it means we can’t go back to normal life. All these factors contribute in people not getting vaccinated. It’s bad messaging.

Some of those younger people are getting quite sick, though. Death is not the only bad outcome. I'd take a couple of jabs over a week in hospital any day. (One of my daughter's friends was a fit young athlete until she caught covid, 3 months ago; she still can't even go jogging).

The reason people would not get the vaccine is because they don’t trust it or they believe that their level of risk is so low that they might as well get it and be immune that way. Some people don’t trust it because it’s an experimental drug that was only approved by the FDA for emergency purposes so summer waiting for it to become fully trust worthy or seeing what side effects have been occurring but over the course of a year.

The bad messaging is saying that once you get the vaccine and you’re fully vaccinated you still have to wear a mask so people start thinking why should I get the vaccine if I’m still going to have to wear a mask. It’s also the messaging that they don’t trust Trump so any vaccine that came out under Trump must be untrustworthy. Or people are just choosing not to get the vaccine because that’s their personal choice and in which case it’s on them. Either way the way the federal government handled Covid and the issuing the vaccines it’s just trash

Honestly if you got Trump to come out and say everyone get the vaccine I’m sure every single Republican will get a vaccine. The main issue is still about the aged people who are more prone to succumb to the disease. This panic will be overcome once there is a drug for covid that works on most people.

Those drugs are not that impactful and can only give some extra time to the body's immune system, but can't help them become more adept at beating it.

Lockdown is a way to try amd ensure that the body's immune system is not tested to its limits, otherwise countries all over the world wouldn't be doing it - some less than others, I agree.

But yeah, I also believe that govt is not thinking of lifting the restrictions only after cases drop to 0. But rather they want some idea of the herd immunity kicking in.
