Why do Americans have to grieve whenever they have a "tragedy"?

9/11, Boston Marathon Bombings, Oklahoma Tornadoes, Texas floods, Hurricane Katrina, etc. Well, Americans DID pollute Mother Nature and they invaded/pillaged foreign countries. So payback's a bitch, I guess.

Instead of weepng like a bunch of babies, Americans should own up to their faults. 😂😂

And don't label me a "psychopath." I was disheartened when hearing of the 7/7 in England, the terrorist attack in Paris a few years ago, the mosque attacks in New Zealand and Canada, and the natural disasters in Asia.

You're mixing 2 different feelings here. Most people have no control of the things you mentioned. Things that happened because if terrorist attacks are punishing innocent people for political policies they can't control. Sure we can vote but how many of election promises actually ever get done? Mother Nature is another thing. We have done some polluting, we've done a lot of things that were wrong. But Mother Nature has been kicking the earth around longer than we've been around. She was born the same time as our beautiful planet. We've actually only been here a short time if you look at the big picture. We're sad and upset because our minds always tell us that there was something we could've done or should've done. Most of the time it's your mind playing the blame game. In a attack there's someone to blame, with natural events we tend to blame ourselves. We play the what if game and that's a game we'll never win. That's my opinion. I'm a PTSD survivor so I've learned I cannot dwell on things I cannot control and to talk to someone about what I'm feeling. Don't bottle your emotions up or it will eventually destroy you from within.

American culture is really strong around nationalism and "patriotism" (admittedly the current culture is more "White Supremacy" and "reality TV").

A big effect of national-level grief and big statements of "don't fuck with America" have little to do with actively helping everyday American deal with the emotional trauma that happens with these attacks, and more to do with solidifying and pushing America-for-Americans and nationalist sentiments.

It's a hallmark of their culture. And strangely one of the only times you'll see Americans as individuals come together as a collective - every other time, they'd rather shoot each other. But when big tragedy strikes, it gives them a chance to say they'd rather shoot the other guy than their neighbour.

Or, y'know, a hurricane. If you live in Florida.
