I'm sure you've heard of the term coloured people in South Africa. They are an ethnic group that has mixed race ancestry. Mainly from Asian, Africans, European and Khoisan bushman

In a genome study of African Americans published in 2016 they found that 82.1% of ancestors to African-Americans lived in Africa prior to the advent of transatlantic travel, 16.7% in Europe, and 1.2% in the Americas, with increased African ancestry in the southern United States compared to the North and West. The percentage of European DNA rises to around 20% for those descended from people who left the south.

What substantially changes between Colored and African Americans is the origin of the African side, and the presence of Asian genetics for Colored people.
The African Americans are on the African side a mixture of populations coming for the half coming from Angola and Nigeria for the rest coming from much further north, namely Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Benin and Ghana.

On the other hand, the Colored ones have a Khoisa origin on the maternal side, and on a paternal side originated from Nguni, Southern African, West African, and East African populations at 45.2%; Western European lineages at 37.3%; and South Asian / Southeast Asian lineages at 17.5%

In terms of identity, the Colored do not feel black like Americans, or like other black Africans. They have a different identity like that of Cape Verdeans or Angolans.

They are for the most part different genetically since the overwhelming majority of black Americans are primarily descended from West Africans.

Most of them are descended from Khoisan bushman, Dutch, Malaysian background and there Asian admixture
