Which nation do you think had the worst 20th century?

I watched an old film from 1900, it was daily life in Berlin Germany.

It showed a few kids playing in a park and I couldn’t help to think to myself “they had no idea how many hardships they would have in their life.”

Imagine all the problems Germany faced in the 20th century.
World War 1, the economic problems of the 20s, Nazi era, World War 2, Germany divided, possibly being in communist east Germany.
Then late in the century Germany reunification.

Or maybe Russia.

Russia losing 1905 war against Japan, World War 1, Russian revolution, Russian civil war, communist takeover, famines and gulags, Would war 2, after Stalin things become less bad but still very authoritarian, economic decline of 70s and 80s, collapse of Soviet Union but corruption and economic woes in 1990s.

Imagine someone being born in the year 1900 and dying in the year 2000.
Which country in the world would be the most unfortunate to be born in.

Somalia or Ethiopia, decades of warlords and famines and poverty, yet those people persevered, took what life threw at them.
I know Wars in Europe etc also caused millions to experience horrible things, but I think those African places rival those.

Probably depends on that persons ethnic background. Like were they german or jewish? If they were german then there were probably even worse places to live, like the example you give - Russia. If they were jewish yeah well I wouldn’t have wanted to be a jew in Germany, Poland etc during the Hitler era… So I don’t know.

Oh was talking bout Barry Seal, he was a pilot and DEA informant. Kiki Camarena is another well known DEA agent who was killed when he got too close to corruption and drugs at the very top levels of the Mexican government and army

Yeah, I'm Mexican and I know that our government is a piece of shit run by cartels too, some people still keep voting and putting some faith in change in our system for some reason though... they thought Lopez Obrador would go against corruption but nope, at this point it's pretty much impossible for any change to occur anyway.

Probably Russia. Things were already pretty bad under the tears them came ww1, then came the revolution, civil war, 1920s famine, 1930s famine, stalin's purges and then ww2. So much death in Russia in such a short time. Gotta be 50 million in 40 years.
