I agree with most of it except it’s choice in currency.
How much of the “Libertarian anthem” do you agree with?
I agree with most of it except it’s choice in currency.
Most libertarians conveniently ignore the neighborhood effects of economic activity. Ayn Rand certainly did. We don't have infinite natural resources, or an infinite sink for unwanted byproducts (pollution). There's no way to extract resources or process them without affecting other people. The fortunate people who are unwilling to pay for social insurance conveniently forget that they may experience misfortune in the future. I make a very good living as a software developer. That's just dumb luck. I'm happy to pay taxes so that the less fortunate can still have a decent life.
And in the mean time you are willing to infringe on people’s and liberties. Because you think “collectivism” is a good thing.
*rights and liberties
I rather trust a libertarian instead of some pinko who likes to use public college as a platform to promote far left wing propaganda.
He never said that collectivism (whatever that is precisely) was a "good thing", but it needs to be said that we actually DO have responsibilities towards each other, because we're not a race of hermits who never need the help and assistance of others. Complete and unhindered freedom sounds great in theory, but it's hopelessly Utopian, because there will always be people who just don't want to play by whatever rules most have agreed to, because human nature itself is hopelessly flawed. Most decisions by most people are actually not at all rational, which is contrary to what Libertarians say they believe, which is yet more evidence they just don't understand human psychology and how our minds work.
@Snsl153 The idea of ”limited resources” is slowly becoming a myth as technology continues to advance. We can now use untapped resources that have always been here. Ever heard of moisture harvesting technology?
So yeah all those “green” activists are nothing more than proto totalitarians who want to control the people instead of actually helping humanity.
> The idea of ”limited resources” is slowly becoming a myth as technology continues to advance. We can now use untapped resources that have always been here.
Anyway, that doesn't support the libertarian fantasy of freedom from all regulation. Instead of a functioning economy you end up with a failed state.
“Anyway, that doesn't support the libertarian fantasy of freedom from all regulation. Instead of a functioning economy you end up with a failed state”
Right because your democrat states full of all kinds of regulations are so utopian that people are leaving them.
90% and areas I hesitate on can be adjusted without sacrificing rights.

I agree that liberty, freedom of choice, free will, autonomy, making your own decisions, however you want to put it: it's important.
No one wants to be constricted, confined, tied down, used, taken advantage of or otherwise disenfranchised.
These extreme purist ideals are all well and good, until you have to interact with other people. Let's take a roommate situation where you live in a large house with many other people. By the libertarian ideals lauded in the video, you should have the right to cook what you want, when you want. Clean up or leave your trash where you like, as you see fit. Live your life free, unconstrained. Masturbate on the sofa as you like. Eat whatever food you find in the fridge.
Just as this person would make a bad roommate, libertarians make bad neighbors. One could argue "not if they are considerate and kind", but that's a gamble, because they can be whatever the hell they feel like. Much as I don't enjoy paying taxes, and prefer to hoard as many resources as I can for my own enjoyment and security, I prefer it to living in a libertarian world where anyone could just come up, shoot me in the head, take my stuff and go on with no repercussions.
I've got a few libertarian friends, whom I think are great people and well meaning, but unfortunately these ideals don't translate to a larger society. Same as anarchy, socialism, or communism. Fine ideas in a limited capacity, but major issues with scalability.
As for bitcoin/cryptocurrency, most people (including many of those who are fans of it) don't understand it well enough to give their thoughts and comments on it any foundation of credibility. I see a lot of things said about cryptocurrency that merely relay to me that the person making the comment is ignorant about where crypto came from, where it's going, how it works, and why it continues to be a growing market.
choices are better than plans... that is bollox
taxation being a bad thing is also BS... now, taxation done wrong... everything else can be done wrong as well, so everything would be a crime if someone does it bad, no is not so simple
and the next line is about free market and free trade which are two instances that are currently WAY MORE corrupted than taxation and collection are
freedom is also an idealization so no, it will not work well just because people think so
"all of our actions are voluntary" that is the biggest fallacy so far
and then, perhaps the most risible follows... " education is brainwashing " (sure it is lol) but then you go straight to cryptocurrency which is the biggest scam of all, and you also go for gold which is the root of all corruption in any form of currency, that is just contradictory as fuck
and the rest is just a bunch of hippie hipster happy shit that doesn't really account to actual, real life as real life is, lol
About 60%.
I don't worship or in any way accept the false god of the Invisible Hand, and don't trust Bitcoin (more like "Bitcon"). Taxation is necessary for our society to function in the first place; it is not "theft", that claim is just silly. I believe in fair trade, not free trade. No debt or inflation is naive and hopelessly idealistic, and betrays a lack of understanding of both basic economics and human nature.
On the other hand (the real one, not the Almighty Invisible One) our choices are always better than the ones "our" governments try to make for us (ex. "lockdowns" and mandates), and absolutely support free expression and movement, free minds and free choice, and because of this a "vaccine passport" is an utterly abhorrent concept to me. War is abhorrent, and the current gang of criminals in the U. S. State Department should all be packed off to The Hague to face trial for deliberately provoking the current war in Ukraine, among other crimes.
And last, but certainly not least, yes, SOCIALISM DOES NOT WORK.
I love the way the same people (not you, afaics) who decry "fiat money" love bitcoin. At least the former has the promise of a country to repay debts in it. It's only this century that the UK paid off its debts for buying off the slave owners in the 1830's and for WWII.
I disagree about the vaccine passports and mask mandates. About half a million Americans would still be alive today if you'd followed German rules (which were quite flexible and we had a lot of anti-vaxxers, too).
The only person to blame for the war in Ukraine is Putin. Literally no-one else. There are dozens of countries in Europe, other than the Balkans in the 1990s, there hasn't been a serious war there in 70 years. That's a good thing.
"Socialism" (what's your definition) works fine, as long as it's associated with democracy. If most people don't like the way things are going, they should have the opportunity to change it. Democracy is the only way to do that.

@goaded You're assuming that the concepts of socialism and democracy are not mutually exclusive. Socialist systems require a certain amount of coercion in order to seem as though they are actually working to those who are gullible enough to believe that socialism ever was, or ever will be, a good idea.
The USSR and the whole of Eastern Europe up to central Germany were socialist, and when those nations imploded everyone was so surprised at how easily they fell, like a row of dominoes (including myself, by the way).
By the way, why do you have the Ukrainian flag as your profile picture? Are you one of those virtue-signallers who actually believe that "taking a stand" and showing which side you support in the "special operation" will make any difference whatsoever to the eventual outcome?
Every system needs a certain amount of coercion to make them work, that's what laws and police are for. The point about democracy is that you get to change your leaders when they look like they're going too far. That's why democracies don't seize the methods of production (without a damn good reason, like imminent invasion), and they can find a reasonable trade-off between individual freedoms and protection from those who would take them away.
Yes, the flag is to show solidarity with Ukraine. You can call it "virtue signalling", if you like, but it sets me apart from people considering putting a Z up there (and I'm sure there are a few who would like to). I like democracy. Sue me.
it's funny how people always conflate libertarianism with liberalism. when in fact societies of the west are as liberal as raely before in history while being as totalitarian as usually only socialist states get at the same time. i think as a society, we gotta walk quite a bit towards libertarianism before we reach a sort of balanced middle point between the both extremes libertarianism and totalitarianism again.
i mean i think it's funny to combine the russian anthem with lyrics that stand for opposite of their socialist ideology xD
!00% except, I'm not convinced that Bitcoin is good money. However, I really don't like the song, It would grate on me to listen to it. I'm certain there are much better song writers. Perhaps, it should be poem instead.
Zero. Markets don’t regulate themselves. The invisible hand is jerking itself off.
Funny how Obama’s Credit Protection Bureau cut down the “legal” loan sharks more than the last 20 years.
Again funny how people are leaving your commiecrat states because it’s too expensive to afford homes in them.
Get outta here.

The video is a satirical add to push bitcoin. Don't take it seriously.
I identify as a libratarian for the most part but im not radical with it. I just belive we need more personal responsibility with our actions
i think im on the same page as you
Live and let live. Words to live by.
If they changed bitcoin to silver, I'd agree 100%
I don't trust any group with an anthem.
