If you are Pro-Life when it comes to abortion, what would you say to an actual pregnant woman who wants to abort, to convince her not to?

Okay. I'm not a woman, but I can still ask this question on it. And I said I wouldn't make another abortion MyTake and why in my opinion, the average pro-life argument is really, really stupid.

But I had a recent conversation here on GAG about it again, which inspired me to ask this question, even though I REALLY don't want to! But I think it might possibly be important in helping other people understand the issue from both sides.

So say there's a young woman who just found out she is six to seven weeks pregnant. She always used protection every time she had sex, but still wound up pregnant.

She's in her mid to late 20s and her life is a mess. She's gotten fired from many jobs she's had. She keeps choosing the wrong kind of men to date; men who treat her badly.

She can't find the right guy because all of the good ones she would like, are already married. So she settles for men she knows are probably bad for her.

She has self-esteem issues and depression. She's also politically neutral and agnostic, religion wise. She's definitely not a stupid person or reckless; just clinically depressed and not thinking clearly because of it.

Maybe she's your next-door neighbor. Maybe she's a co-worker. Maybe she's your boss' daughter. But she's someone you know, as an associate or acquaintance, and have talked to before.

Say you find out she's pregnant. She hates herself, and strongly believes she would not make a good mother at all.

WHAT WOULD YOU ACTUALLY SAY TO HER TO GET HER TO NOT ABORT HER BABY?

No religious BS, no moral-fagging, none of that.
How would you actually convince someone like this to not abort their six week old fetus and to give birth? Here's your shot!

(And even though I damn well know I'm going to regret it, I'm even going to leave anonymous opinions on for this one.)

I'm only pro-life in a non-legal sense. I don't want to criminalize abortion (I'm "pro-choice" in the legal realm). So if I can manage it, I'd want to offer her a community of supportive people (starting with me but not limited to me; I got many like-minded people who will go out of their way on account of someone) to try to persuade her to have the child. We have her backs. And we'll help her however we can to ease the burden. We can become her family if she needs one, and it's not a burden to us because maybe all of us in my friend group are seeking to expand our family role.

We are "community" people in my group but secular. She doesn't have to convert to a religion or anything like that. And even if she chooses to abort, she is welcome. But she and her child will have our support if she doesn't so she doesn't have to feel alone in this.

I got this thought which is going to separate me so hard from so many pro-life people. But I don't consider a woman who has had an abortion a "murderer". Even my worst thoughts towards her don't put her anywhere close to someone who has killed someone external. I will have her for dinner without being the slightest bit nervous. She is of no threat to me or my loved ones as far as I can tell even if she terminated a life growing inside of her surgically.

This is not a killer of the sort rampaging in our neighborhood. This is, at worst, a confused woman who might value things she thought she should value above the life that was growing inside of her which she had surgically removed. I can't explain it so well -- this is taxing my English ability. But she is not some dangerous killer I need to protect people against.

This is complexity in technology. I only want her to have a good life since maybe I think her life could be even better with it with our support. Maybe I think other people's idea of a "good life" is dumb.

I would show her a 3D ultrasounds. With technology today we can easily tell a baby is a baby in the first ultrasound. Most women change there mind about abortion after they see an ultrasound of there baby growing inside them. If we are going to have legal abortion we should at least make it required for a women to have an ultrasound and a week before the abortion and sent home with the pictures of the child growing inside them. Maybe more women will decide to keep the baby if they got one before hand.

Let me rephrase the question, how would you try to convince that woman to take on an at least 18 year long 24/7 job that she won't be able to leave.
The sentiment behind your question is kind, but personally I don't think one could and should say anything. The only thing you can do is to tell her the pros and cons.
But honestly, I would prefer if people stayed out of other people's lives unless they are specifically asked for advice

I totally agree with you. But this is for all the pro-life people on GAG.

My personal opinion is that enough people are unloved and suffering in this overpopulated world without bringing an extra 100+ million people into it over some stupid subjective morality or religious reasons.

As for me being put into this situation? It's none of my business, so I wouldn't tell her anything.

And if it was my child she had in her? Well, that would never happen. I practice safe sex, the very few times I have it. If I could afford it, I'd actually get snipped.

I honestly don’t know man I am pro life but i also understand them because this world is such a cruel and hard world imagine bringing a child into that. I would remind her though that I wouldn’t want her to be heartbroken for the rest of her life

"no moral-fagging" the whole thing about politics in the USA is to get around or use moral outrage. Knowing and understanding female nature you're literally asking the impossible here. For instance most people who get abortions are left leaning AND the left uses moral outrage as their bread and butter in politics. Therefore you need a strategy in which you tailor to their particular flavor. Therefore you need to go for their emotions with morality and convince them.

But I said the hypothetical woman here isn't the typical type who can be easily manipulated by emotions. She's smart, but depressed, and thinks she'd be a bad mother. Her life would be strong evidence she would be. She's on the fence about the issue, but logic says she'd be better off getting the abortion than messing up a child's life or possibly taking it away, down the line.

I'm asking, what would a pro-life person say to her to convince her not to get the abortion.

Let me put it like this my friend. We have laws in place that say it's legal to drive. We have other laws that say it's legal to drink. We have a law that says no drinking while driving. When you put down 7 shots of whiskey and then get behind a wheel you made a choice that has the potential to affect you the rest of your life. You can die or kill someone else. The same goes for sex. If you aren't willing to carry a child to term, dont have sex. If you dont want to die or kill someone, dont drive drunk. You have freedom of choice, not freedom of the ramifications of your actions. Give the kid up for adoption, plenty of us would adopt the child and there's tons of people on waiting lists as we speak.

Trying to judge her and guilt trip her would not make her want to have an abortion, especially if she doesn't share you same views of a six week embryo being the same thing as a "baby." Just like I pointed out before that pro-life people don't share the views of sperm being a baby. No one is going to spend nine months and 8 to 20 hours in labor by someone comparing them to a drunk driver just because they don't see a six week lump of cells as a "baby" the same way pro-life people do.

regardless it's the same standard. I can show her tons of stories about women regretting it. I can show them what abortions look like and the late term ones for traumatic effect. I can speak to people about getting her a way to send the baby out for adoption and I can show videos of happy parents who love their kids. But more importantly for women and men who dont want kids I want free sterilizations to be opened to them as well as free IUDS. I also would love for us to develop a means to extract the eggs from women who didn't want kids and allow those eggs to grow in incubators to save the lives.

What would do is help her get a safe, simple chemical abortion that can be done up to 8 weeks into the pregnancy.
