For the those of you who aren't using birth control yet a baby is conceived only to be aborted, what reasons don't you use birth control?

Is it too expensive for you to buy? Do you think they should make it easier to get? What would help you to use birth control of some kind?

It's a very good question, sage.

I doubt if many girl/women here have had abortions, and few would admit if they had.
I suppose they can give a theoretical opinion.

Since I only have a male perspective, which is valueless when it comes to this issue, I'll just say that every one of my girlfriends was on the pill. It was just part of being a sexually active woman. It gave them freedom to pursue life and have relationships and celebrate their libidos.

Of course it was effortless for me. I kinda took for granted. I didn't know much about the pill. I never heard about any side effects. All I knew was, sex with them was safe.

I realize that current contraceptives (aside from condoms, which are unsatisfactory) are exclusively for women, which puts the responsibility on them. But, honestly, I don't understand the problem. I don't understand why women complain instead of feeling liberated. And why would some women prefer condoms?

I 100% support a woman's right to autonomy of her own body. But I have to admit that I am averse to the hypocrisy of women who, on one hand, claim full autonomy over their decisions but, on the other hand, blame a man if they get pregnant. As far as I'm concerned, she can either refrain from sex or she can use contraception. But claiming that a guy has equal responsibility if she gets pregnant from consensual sex is bullshit. That's like blaming a food producer for getting fat or an alcohol producer for getting drunk. Plus, a guy can't dictate whether or not she gets an abortion.

When I was 15-16, I had two girlfriends who had gotten early term abortions with their parent's knowledge. They were at least two years younger than me. I dated the one and we used to kiss and grope, but never had actual sex. She had learned her lesson.
I lost my virginity to the second one. After her first relationship that resulted in an abortion, she, too, learned her lesson and started taking the pill.

My point is, sometimes an abortion is the best option. A pregnancy can result from rape, incest, or a failure of birth control, but it can also be the result of naivete. Young people can do dumb things. And those things shouldn't have to completely wreck their lives and the lives of others.

The morning after pill is a blessing, as so is chemical abortion that can be used up to 8 weeks after pregnancy. I don't even have a problem with an abortion up to 16 or so weeks.

But abortions should not be taken lightly. And I have a major problem with anyone who uses it as a form of birth control in lieu of contraception.

As for male contraception, get over it. It doesn't yet exist. If if did, I would encourage guys to use it. In the meantime, I think women need to take responsibility for their own bodies.

Little story here about me and this issue. When I was 16 I had a boyfriend that was 19 and he was in college. We were both virgins. I was his first girlfriend. We used to make out a lot, then he'd go home. After 5 months of that, he TOLD me I had to go on the birth control pill so we could have sex.
I went to Planned Parenthood and got free birth control pills. I had to take them for a month before having sex, otherwise I could have ended up pregnant.
So, we were two very responsible teenagers that gave thought to prevent me from getting pregnant. No one else talked to us about it; we decided on our own what we had to do. So, it can be done with teenagers because I was one. 🌹

Thanks for that story, Sage. Exactly. You behaved responsibly. Not all young women are well informed.

I don't know how things are now days, but when I was a teen there were "free clinics" (run by Planned Parenthood, I assume) that provided all kinds of services. I don't even think girls needed parent's permission to get the pill. I'm pretty sure they were really inexpensive, too. And they didn't need a prescription from a doctor.

How was your experience? Was it easy for you to get the pill?

@Liam back then it was easy. Planned Parenthood provided a 3 month supply of pills. The doctor was right there and she gave me my first pap smear and breast exam (that was the worst part).
I guess times have changed - I heard planned Parenthood no longer is a free clinic. 🌷

I commend you for asking those questions I use birth control but why are people not trying to help young women find ways to reduce abortion in the first place, I know birth control isn’t 100 percent effective but why are some couples not using it.

Many people experience failures with their contraceptives whether due to obesity, use of other medications (such as some antibiotics), non-optimal contraceptive use, or other factors. Although this does not address what you stated about what others do/do not do when it comes to contraception, it’s important to keep in mind that this is more complex than a black and white contraceptive use or non-use.
