Why do people think that abortion is a religious issue?

I've seen a lot of comments about keeping religion out of government, asking what happened to separation of Church and state, and so forth. I get that the most vocal opposition to abortion is religious, but that doesn't mean abortion itself is a religious matter, let alone specifically for Christians.

Early texts of the Hippocratic Oath in pagan Ancient Greece forbid abortion in most instances. The organization Secular Pro-Life was established in 2009 by Kelsey Hazzard, who is an atheist. And when I was in college, there was a group at the March for Life holding up a sign that said "Agnostic Anarchists Against Abortion".

The Supreme Court ruling, from what I've heard and read so far, hasn't even made vague references to God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, a supernatural creator or authority, the Bible, or anything else like that. It's been critiques of Roe's reasoning and explanations of legal precedent.

And ultimately, people can have ethical and philosophical objections to abortion when questions of when life begins, fetal heartbeats, the sex of the child conceived, or other such issues independent of religious faith are raised.

So with all that said, why are people acting as though opposition to abortion is tied strictly to religion?
