Would you vote for the opposing political party?

I am an independent that usually votes Democratic. I voted for GOP's Reagan in 1984 because former Carter VP Fritz Mondale was a sacrificial DEM candidate then. Even I didn't want to go back to the Carter years and the DEMs knew they had no one who could defeat Reagan.
Locally, sometimes I do vote GOP. In my state of Missouri, you can vote for state judges. It's something I abhor, but I do research the candidates and, if I think they deserve it - GOP or DEM - I vote for them. But, for Federal office, I almost certainly will not vote GOP... certainly not local because they are all devout idiot Trumpster despicable quasi-felons like Josh Hawley or Eric Greitens. And, since the GOP doesn't have many sane people left, I don't see myself voting for them until the "RINOs" are in power again or form a new GOP to go up against the neo-NAZI MAGA sect.
I'm registered as a Democrat but only because republicans are nuts. I would agree with Repiblicans that local self sufficiency is something we should all strive for (i. e. reducing dependence on federal government) but I'm not super frothing about it - it's a lofty goal and it's important not to insist federal assistance be cut off prematurely.
But sadly this is pretty much the least of the republican priorities. Everything else republicans say is batshit lunacy. I'd rather the federal govern, ent give everyone a thousand dollars a day for the rest of eternity than do any of the nutso bullshit republicans spend 24 hours a day belching at each other. So, I'm a Democrat because it is the only feasible way to stop republicans.
Our voting system is different than America and we have to rank a list of close to 50 people spread between 2 major parties (about 20 each) and like 3 or 4 smaller parties (the rest). I try to research the people and rank according to my opinion and I do go between different parties eg I give first vote to party A but 2nd and 3rd to B then back to A and so on.
I never cared about the democrats until the republicans began openly supporting racism, humans are created in the image of God and including and protecting and considering them is a privilege and a sacred duty. All cultures and races and colours are beautiful.
Let's say your party came to power and things went wrong. If the opponent says that he will fix the situation, would you vote?
I will vote for a party that does not violate human rights and if both respect human rights, I will consider their protective qualities, such as environmental issues, policing issues, security and gun issues, agricultural regulations, medical laws etc…
But I said opposing party, opposing view. So would you vote for a party that is against your ideas if you have to?
If the republicans respect racial equality and religious freedom then I will vote for them if their economic views are better than the democrats.

I have voted for candidates from the opposing party on several occasions.
whyy?
I did not want to vote for the candidate from my party. In one case, I personally knew my party's candidate and I thought he was a bad guy.
You're open-minded, so you're not partisan. I understand, thanks for the reply.
In most elections, I've voted for candidates of BOTH major parties; I have NO sense of "party loyalty", and think that in general, we'd be better off without them (not that I know of any way to actually REMOVE them that wouldn't just make them unofficial).
You make a ballot that doesn't LIST a candidate's party, and I'd be STRONGLY in favor; make people do at least a *little* bit of research.
Are the people in your country partisan? Or is it open minded?
I'm in the USA; many of us are partisan as HELL. And beyond even in voting patterns; it often comes down to "Anything our side wants is good; anything their side wants is bad", even when it comes to stuff that benefits everybody.
Not all of us feel that way, but few will openly speak against it; the social backlash can get downright NASTY.
Thanks, I got your answer.
You pick candidates based on qualifications, character and positions on the issues. Sometimes, prioritizing each, you might want to pick three different candidates. Jimmy Carter was a horrible president, but I’d rate him number one in character of any president in my lifetime.
Sometimes you have to hold your nose and vote for the ass hole who is more aligned with you on the issues. I know many Trump voters who did this. I don’t know if too many people who voted for that senile idiot who replaced him actually thought he was a good choice, or just less repulsive than Trump.
I don't belong to a political party. And I don't understand why anyone would. Vote your values, vote your beliefs, vote your conscious. . . don't vote for a person or a party.
Okay, let's put it this way, if you had to vote for a party against your values,
would you vote
Are Americans strict adherents to their party? Can he vote for the opposing party? In my country, people usually don't vote for opposing parties.
I don't understand the question. Like Adam Kinzinger, he is a Republican and I like a lot of his positions, even outside of his disagreements with trump.
Like I hate the border wall. That's just stupid and a waste of taxpayer money. But his proposal on enhancing punishment for repeat offenders who cross the border makes awesome sense. And the punishment should be ramped up exponentially.
His proposal to enhance border security with drones and advanced technology makes a lot of sense. I would gladly pay extra money for that. But building a wall is just stupid.
I like his views on debt reduction. But I disagree with him on healthcare.
So would I vote for him? It depends on his opponent. If his opponent was AOC, I am going with him.
Oh, in America, everything right now is about political party. I mean the dems are always a mess. The Republicans are way more disciplined. That's why I used to be one. But the problem is that discipline has trapped them in an extremist hellscape. And it is going to end badly for us all.
The dems won't do that. Because they are made up of 4 million different interest groups, gay rights here, BLM there, womens' rights on top, trans rights on the bottom, Asian American interests in a side car. . .
Everyone is pulling in their own direction. It is absolute chaos.
So, in general, are your country people partisans? So is there a chance to vote for the opponent?
Yes, we are partisan. I would say over half the voting public vote for their party no matter what. They don't even know what the platform is. And the thing is, we are doing everything we can as a nation to not educate them.
That's why our schools are failing, the public doesn't have anything faith in science, objective fact, or objective reality.
Everything is political.
I’m a far leftist, so to me the Democrats and Republicans are nearly the same except on some social issues, I guess I’d be open to voting for either, but I doubt they will present a candidate that aligns with my values
You don't have democracy then haha. There are really left and right parties in Turkey.
I never said I believed America was a democracy. I think it’s closer to kind of a military dictatorship but merged with an oligarchy. Like, who gets the most money, (which equals more freedom because you can spend more ex. traveling, healthcare, influence) the military, and giant corporations. Who facilitates this relationship? Politicians and lobbyists who coordinated with eachother to enrich themselves and their corporate donors

Hell NO.
Why? So if the democrats came to power and ruined things, would you vote for the republicans?
I don't go by party allegiances. I vote for whoever I think is best at the time (even if I later dislike them). I voted for Obama twice, and voted for Trump twice (ideally wanted Tulsi Gabbard, though).
So yeah, I'd vote for whoever sucked less.
At one time it was a very remote possibility. After what I've seen over the last 15 years I can't see doing that under any circumstances.
But a lot of people do. Trump got elected in 2016 because of crossover votes. He got a very large number of Democrat votes concentrated in important states. It's very difficult to get those kind of details, but I strongly suspect he pulled the labor vote in the heavy union states.
I vote for the retard who won't mess up my way of life directly. I will say since I have been able to vote, none of my votes have ever gone to the democrats and most likely none of them ever will. The only democrat I would have even considered voting for would have been Tulsi Gabbard.
Don't vote anyway but nope I wouldn't. If people were forced to vote it would always be my political align unless if our political align literally brings hitler back from the dead and is somehow trying to make him our leader lol.
But so far it's often their as bad as each other or mine is the less evil. But that's the reason I don't vote. Turdsandwhich or giant douche isn't a choice.
The last time I did was for Obama in 2008. I thought he would help finally end racism for good in the USA. Look how that turned out. Was one of the worst decisions of my life give the intersectional socialist coalition insanity he helped initiate and promote.
Only if I'd been drinking heavily and couldn't see the right box to tick!
whyy
What other reason would I have for choosing a party who I disagreed with?
So your party came to power and messed everything up. If the other party said they would fix everything, would you vote? And are the people of your country conservative like you?
My party is ALWAYS messing things up, but the other mob mess it up even more. There really isn't much to choose from in The UK any more.. They are ALL terrible.
well, would you vote for the opponent?
No.. Like I said.. My mob are terrible, but the other lot are worse. Why vote for worse?
If the other party says they'll fix everything, even if you have to
Aren't you going to vote for them?
I used to cross party lines, but at this point, it's almost impossible to do so. I'm an independent. I voted for Dems sometimes, and Repubs sometimes. But the last Republican Senator I voted for turned out to be a fucking suck up to Trump, and Bush before that, and I was sickened by it.
Now, I don't like the Dems and I fucking HATE the Repubs. It's a sad state of affairs in the USA. Pretty much every candidate is a piece of shit, no matter the party.
In some cases.
Mayor of my home city is doing a good job in my opinion, and I can see the city has been changing for better with him in the office. I don't like the positions of his party and I wouldn't vote for them in presidential/parliment election, but in this case - yes, why not. He's doing a good job and also he's not an extremist when it comes to world-view.
But I'm not American, so it's a different case.
I have in the past, but I'll never vote for a democrat again.
I can't stand the Republican party. A political party of old outdated ideas and stuck in the past.
The Democrat party is currently a lost case.
I'm not voting for neither. When the Democrats go back to being decent if ever they do that then I will support them again as I'm a registered Democrat, but for now both political parties can hell off.
Yes and I have. Massachusetts is a deeply blue state with a republican governor. Statistically speaking democrats are more likely to vote republican than the reverse. I'm neither a Democrat nor a republican though.
I am registered in the opposing political party. It's more interesting, and how I vote in the general is "my and only mine" business.
The way that the Democrats are right now, there's really no situation that involves me voting for them, unless it's a Joe Manchin type.
I used to vote for the person’s ideas and past voting records. If they had one.
With the BS that the Democrats have been pulling. Outside of two Democrats. I would have a hard time to vote for a Democrat for anything!
If I believe you can actually succeed in getting me what I want, you have my vote. I don't care what you are.
i'm an independent so always vote for an opposing party.
unfortunately, sometimes one casts a vote for one person so that it will count against another.
a sort of having to plug one's nose before casting the ballot.
I think in the past when the parties were more closely aligned it could have made sense. Today if you cross party lines you clearly have no morals or values. You're just voting for whoever is "most handsome" basically.
Personally I was a democrat but completely changed now. I am pro God, pro life and pro guns
Everyone who votes democrat or republican is a moron. Bar none.
At this point; I would happily vote for the Republicans
The way democrats are today I highly doubt it. They re too crazy.
I would have voted for Tuslsi, but the Dims wouldn't even let her debate. China wanted a brain-dead puppet like Biden.
Vote for democrats... nope. Hell I'm not all the fond of voting for Republicans unless they are populist MAGA type Republicans.
if everyone would register independents that would shake the hell out of all the politicians then you would see a big change, they rely on getting the voters to vote their party no matter what they do
If it's the right person maybe. But they have to be almost walking on water for me to vote across my party line.
Yes to me party don't matter it is the person running.
Never again, and when I ever did I was misinformed. If your boyfriend or husband doesn't ever regret voting Democrat HE IS GAY
If it was a completely corrupt, ineffectual candidate, I’d vote for the better president.
Apparently Trumpers dont feel the same.
Likely not anytime soon but I can see myself doing that.
Sure. I voted Democrat for most of my life until recently.
Sorry, you guys lost me. 🤷♂️
Democrats better or starve to death and pay $10 a gallon for gas.
Why would someone vote for the party they don’t agree with?
I would, not like a get a choice when the Democrats take my name from the headstone
Yes but only for AOC if she runs.
I’m laughing so hard my stomach is hurting by the fact you actually believe that.
@globetrotter22 You think she wouldn't?
Oh I am sure she is delusional to try anything. But she is as logical as a dog chasing a car. If she caught one she wouldn’t know what to do with it.
@globetrotter22 Yeah, that's fair. I do think she has a plan but it doesn't seems like it involves presidency right now. I don't really agree with any of her politics at all anyways.
She’s has no coherence in her thinking. She’s only popular because she’s loud and attractive.
It’s funny how she keeps complaining about how other people are “privileged” but she herself is a huge benefactor of pretty privilege. If she was 20 years older and/or 20 lbs heavier she wouldn’t on the front cover of so many magazines.
No I would not vote democratic
Depends on what they have to offer.
Unless there’s another JFK, that’s unlikely
No never
never would do it
Never.
No...
