What do you remember about the year 2000?

The year 2000 was hyped up as being "the new millennium" and the official start of the future age. Every marketing campaign in the late 80s and 90s had "2000" added onto to its product to make it seem cool and futuristic, like "Blues Brothers 2000" or "Sim City 2000."

All I remember from 2000 was Smash Mouth, the Baha Men, The Real Slim Shady, the movie Gladiator, and some controversy with the New York Yankees in September that everyone wouldn't shut up about (I don't even watch sports). I was 13 going on 14 at the time, and remember playing Pokemon Yellow on my Game Boy Color in the eighth grade.

In hindsight, the year 2000 SUCKED! Not as bad as 2020, but still pretty lame.

Everything. That’s the year I turned 21, that was pretty big. Had a huge party for it, that was live as fuck. I remember New Year’s being a bust. My girlfriend and I hung out with another couple from the town we used to live in, drove hours to get there, and we were counting on just getting high as a giraffe’s ass but no one ended up being able to find any weed, so that was brutal, lmao. The guy had just bought Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 album, though, and that was the first time I heard it, and that’s a pretty classic album. I remember adopting the kitten who I would have for 19 years. I remember wearing cargo pants, lmao, and those awful ones with the zippers on the legs so they could convert to shorts. That Eminem album you’re referencing, I remember going to the store at midnight to buy it on the release date. Went to a football game at Boston College when they played Virginia Tech and saw Mike Vick play live, he was hot in the streets back then, we hadn’t seen anyone like him, really. Randall Cunningham could scramble back in the day, but this was the first almost run-first QB we had seen. So, I remember all kinds of shit, that was one of the prime years of my life.

I do remember New Years Eve 99, I was at my friends house and when the clock hit 2000, my friend's older brother shut off the circuit breaker to the house, as if Y2K hit and we all lost power. And everyone lost their sh*t. Of course, I was the one to point out that the house next door still had power, so it was obviously a prank. My friend's brother laughed his ass off, though.

I mostly remember the worldwide Y2K hoax/lies that the majority of people fell for, even many businesses fell for it and replaced their computers when there was nothing wrong with them and the ones that weren't replaced functioned perfectly well afterwards too.

Millions of fools, just like with the covid bs.

EVeryone who supposedly knew anything about computer systems said that the world's energy grid would crash because dates in computers were set up to register only two digits for the year, instead of four, and having the year become 00 would mess up everything.

I remember dropping out of highschool and going to college. Playstation 2 had just come out. The Rams went to the Super Bowl for the 2000 season. And didn't Titanic come out that year?

Titanic was December 1997. This huge (about 5'9") Goth girl I knew in the sixth grade was obsessed with that movie and threated to beat up any boy or girl that talked crap about it.

I don’t remember it at all. My recall isn’t chronological like that. Also, i was still partying hard, a lot. The only thing that comes to mind was the multimedia paranoia about the world ending because apparently computer programmers didn’t account for the millennium in calendar maths. Ell oh ell! Looking back, that might have been when the lamestream media realized they could tell us literally anything and the vast majority of people wouldn’t question it.

I remember the whole Y2K thing. I was working for a public school system and had to attend a couple of classes in how to prepare for it. We planned for the worst but I went in on New Years day to check on the computers. They all were fine.
