Isn't that the utopia that many were begging for? The new city manager, Justine Jones, told the very worried citizens of Kenly, North Carolina, to not worry, because they still had protection from the county sheriff's department.

The population of Johnston County, is around 200,000 residents. The county has 62 deputies to protect nearly a quarter million people. Now their job just got more demanding.

One resident said, "It used to be that when seconds mattered, the police were just minutes away. Now they might be an hour away."

Is there a downside to being woke?

I read up on it, and the main difference between a mayor and a city manager, is that the mayor is elected, and the city manager is appointed. However, the city council members are elected, and in this case, I hope they get impeached or at least not reelected for fucking up this bad.

To get an entire police force to quit, means you must be super horrible at your job. I'm glad this made news though. So everyone can laugh at how bad she is at her job, and less people are likely to apply for the position. I hope the town stays safe, though.

The smart thing to do, would be to fire her and beg for the old officers to come back. But her being part black and female, and today's world being run by woke idiots, I doubt that'll happen.

Minneapolis-St. Paul ran a similar experiment recently. It ended with them begging on bender knee for the police to come back. This will be an interesting case study because North Carolina has significantly better gun policy (which favors citizens not politicians) than Minnesota. I’m predicting a few people the world won’t miss that would have been a drain on taxpayer resources had they lived long enough to be arrested (again) might have their subscriptions to oxygen canceled.

I heard about this story from the Joe Pags radio show. He's really good, if you want to listen to him.

He said he's glad the cops quit. If that's what the libs want, then give it to them. But you are right, cops might be the ones standing in the way. Maybe it would be much easier to just shoot the bad guys ourselves.

Sorry to hear about the city losing its police force. I have found that some city managers are difficult people. I worked for a city many years ago as a department head over city ordinances building codes and nuisance. From day one I and the city manager cannot see eye to eye. I walked off the department 18 minutes later. He got fired 6 months later because he could not tell the truth. Other words the city manager pissed off the whole entire police force.

Fair I live in goldendale washington (not In town) we consist of 3407 people we have about five cops in town maybe a little bit more My town is so small that you are not going to get a ticket for blowing a red light because there is no such thing as traffic lights in this down yeah stop signs but that’s about it. but the majority of the area is patrolled by the state police and county police and native police. So we’re covered. I’ve talked to The Tom Cops a few times mainly because there’s a bear running from through town or a dog ( potentially wolf hybrid) is walking around Main Street and for some reason I’m the only one that decides to trust.

I been to Kenly, used to play softball tournaments up there. It a real crappy place to live.

So demographics for Johnston County is 67% white, 15% Black, 9% Hispanic and 9% and the a mix of everything else.

The city of Kenly itself is roughly only 1,800 citizens and the demographics are 36 % Black and 35% white, 9% Hispanic and then everything else. So what you have there is that compared to the rest of the county there are twice as many black people, and half as many whites... and the poverty rate is over 40% for the town.

This something that happens a lot in these small towns in North Carolina, all the land and property taxes collected from the surrounding land is used to fund the Sheriffs office... where the average income for resident of Kenly is roughly $20K annual and the average home value is $80K. So its a impoverished town and paying full wages and pensions to police officers when the Johnston County itself is relatively wealthy why not put it on the sheriffs department. They can hire more sheriffs and let all those wealthy tax payers in Smithfield, Clayton, and Benson pay for it.

Well the cost of city manger is cheaper than paying for 5 cops they don't really need. City mangers a career professional not some elected official with no real qualifications... they run the city and in theory save you more money then they cost you.

I live in a town with 1,200 people and we have a sheriffs office in town and State Trooper office... so there are 4 deputies and 2 troopers in town all the time. It a very rural area a lot like Kenly.
