The 2020 election is historically unique in that each candidate got more popular votes than any other Presidential candidate in history. The previous record was 69.6 million votes for Obama in 2008.

In 2020 ...

Biden received 81.2 million votes; Trump received 74.2 million votes

Each easily beat Obama's record vote total.

Are you aware of that? Why do you think that happened, and do you think it's significant?

Voted A and B - though for purposes of this question, voted B. Frankly, winning the most popular votes is not only not important as a constitutional point except insofar as the popular vote - by state - determines the electoral votes of that state, it is not that impressive in its own right.

Joe Biden won more popular votes that Theodore Roosevelt. Yes, but the population of the United States itself was much larger in President Biden's day. The number of votes is a function of the number of available voters.

If a candidate wins 100 votes out of a total population of 150 voters, that is a formidable number. If a candidate wins 151 voters out of a total population of 200 voters, that is in raw numbers a bigger margin, but not nearly as impressive in the raw numbers.

The point being that it is the margin by which a candidate wins an election, not the raw number of voters that the candidate wins that is impressive. Again it being added that electoral votes matter more than, albeit are a function of, the popular vote.

By that standard Trump and Biden were just not that impressive. Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan were far more impressive in their margins over their opponents, albeit that their raw numbers were smaller because the population was smaller. Smaller population equals fewer available voters to vote for the candidate.

In any case, as noted, the electoral vote matters most, of course. Although it gets short shrift in this populist era when all established institutions are, just by virtue of being established institutions, are suspect, the electoral college is to be preferred. Bottom line, it is nice that both Trump and Biden got the most popular votes - and utterly irrelevant. The nation had a larger population in 1789 than it did in 2022. More people means more voters and more voters means more votes. That is math, not a function of the significance of those numbers.

Yes, I knew that, and as I posted, I already know most of them were illegitimate votes on the blue side, as I keep telling people. Not even the f"cking Democratic voters wanted Biden. They all wanted Bernie Sanders and were actually sh*tting on Biden before he was handpicked to be president. And as weak and spineless as Sanders was, at least he was the Democratic people's choice, and not Biden. NOBODY wanted Biden, and sure as hell didn't want Kamala; she was literally the first one eliminated from the reality show.

And while Trump had more black and Latino support in 2020 than he did in 2016 even. However, many people didn't like him either; mainly the radical left and some old-hat Republicans. But I believe Trump would've broken even; lost as many supporters as he gained new ones.

We'll never get an investigation though, and nobody ever remembers that they admitted to election fraud.

Tom, I see what you mean, but at first I thought you meant Trump had the popular vote in 2016. I believe it was Hillary who won the popular vote then. Still, it shows that it was a close enough race, but not that close to having Trump win again.
