Well, if Nancy Pelosi says she supports Taiwanese independence, that's her opinion and she on her own doesn't have the power to make that an official position of the US government.

But what would happen if China goes to war over Taiwan? Well if you think invading Ukraine was hard for Russia, Ukraine's border with Russia is a flat plain while Taiwan and the mainland are separated by water. Also, when it comes to arming Ukraine, there's a lag time for the aid to take affect because most Ukrainians aren't trained on NATO equipment. Meanwhile the Taiwanese soldiers are and they've structured their military to use NATO hardware to its' full affect.

So if the PLA is suffering from the same shortcomings of the Russian military (granted that is a pretty big 'if') and they go ahead with this operation it will fail and be a complete disaster. Also with all the shipping that takes place in and around the Taiwan strait, a war in that region will send the already fragile global economy into a new dark age. Basically, the People's Republic of China will go down as the second failed superpower and go from being the country that lifted the most people out of poverty to the one that put the most people into it.
