Do you feel connected to your ethnic background if you are American?

I am half italian and look pretty white. But watched a video on immigrants from Italy and felt so connected to it. It’s like my looks are my mother’s family but my soul is 100% Italian. We had Sunday dinners, played bocce and were baptized catholic.

My mom is polish and Austrian. We never celebrated any ethnic holidays and my mom hated being polish. When I see these relatives it feels foreign even though I look like them and are nice.

Not sure where this is coming from just a rant. But do you feel connected to your ancestors?

The most recent immigrant among my ancestors came to the US in 1862, so I am many generations removed from my foreign heritage. However, I feel that I have much in common with Brits and I love German food, and those are the two primary sources for my ancestors.

I'm really drawn to my ethnic ancestry. I'm the fourth generation born in the U. S.

My Irish Catholic ancestors immigrated to the U. S. in the 1850s.

I wasn't exposed to Irish brogues or Irishness when growing up. I developed an affinity to Ireland that my relatives didn't seem to have. I became interested in Irish, and then Gaulish and Celtic history. I love the art work.

I've traveled to Ireland twice and love it. I love the people and I'm in love with the history, art, architecture, and landscapes.

Not really. I'm Scots Irish German Slovack. The first 3 are supposed to be heavy drinkers. I don't drink at all. The last two are supposed to be into polkas and such. I can listen to them but, they don't do much for me. The first two are supposed to always be ready to fight and even prefer to START fights!! I'm not interested in fighting. They're also supposed to be very stingy, if I was very rich, I'd love to give some of it away!! Even when I was dirt poor 3 years ago, I would've gladly given some away if I wasn't in dire need of it myself.

I really don't have anything to do with Europe, not me personally and not in terms of ethnicity anyway

but with my family backgrounds yes... at least up to my greatgrandma on my mothers side, and the lives they started here in USA and Mexico

I honestly dont know what that means. Ethnicity, culture and race are all thought up by humans to segregate us. I’m cool with traditions being kept by whomever, and I see the need for certain communities to be reparationed for the harm caused to them.

I recently vacayed up north and toured several tribal lands, and saw their “culture” or “ethnicity”. Great! I csnt think of anything about my community’s history that’s worth saying is “culture”. Maybe Christmas?

I don't know my ethnicity, I really don't care about it. So far not knowing as an affected my life whatsoever.

Yeah, but my family members were relatively recent immigrants and I've lived for some time where they came from.

My family has been in the US since the 1740s. So I consider myself to be American by Ethnic background. Of course, the traditions are European as their source.
