Effectively it's the same as standing middle of the street yelling profanities, you're going to get nicked.
In practice the police LOVE the law because it gives them the chance to arrest someone who's obviously up to no good but aren't actually breaking the law. For example a burglar someone prowling around at night can claim he's just enjoying a stroll, that paedo hanging around a park can claim he's birdwatching. But soon as they swear, it's down to the station for fingerprints. Loads of people have got arrested for serious crimes they would have gotten away with if they just kept quiet and didn't say dick head to a cop

If you insult a police officer while he's on duty yes you should be arrested but jailing people because they said something offensive is a waste of taxpayer money
To clarify, someone got arrested because someone else chose to get offended over something they said?
Maybe they should arrest the person who made the choice to get offended.
In that case people would be getting arrested every couple of minutes, as some people are easily offended.

I don't consider using profanity to be super bad, its bad, but not bad enough for jail. But if somebody makes a racist comment, or a xenophobic one, I think putting them in jail would be okay.
