The chaotic mess of the past 24 hours that rocked Britain’s political scene and left the UK leaderless. An extraordinary few days in British politics plunged embattled Prime Minister Liz Truss into turmoil, ultimately leading to her resignation on Thursday afternoon.
Truss has stepped down following a failed tax-cutting budget that rocked financial markets and which led to a revolt within her own Conservative Party. Wednesday and Thursday saw high-profile resignations, reports of parliamentarians being bullied and one member of the Conservative Party publicly expressing his anger with the government.
“This is an absolute disgrace,” Conservative lawmaker Charles Walker told BBC News on Wednesday evening. “I think it’s a shambles and a disgrace. It’s utterly appalling,” he said. “I hope all those people that put Liz Truss in Number 10, I hope it was worth it … Because the damage they have done to our party is extraordinary,” Walker said, visibly angry as he spoke.
“I’ve had enough of talentless people putting their tick in the right box not because it’s in the national interest but because it’s in their own personal interest,” he said. A number of Conservative Party members called for Truss to resign Thursday, including Miriam Cates and Henry Smith speaking on Times Radio. Sky News reported that Jill Mortimer became the 15th MP to publicly announce their lack of confidence in the prime minister around 1 p. m. London time.
By Thursday afternoon she resigned saying “I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to announce that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party,” Truss said in her short resignation speech.

I heard rumor she was a scapegoat for the other guy before her, who ran into some ISSUES.
Some people were happy with this lady and the Queen liked her, too. A photograph of them two shaking hands was seen on the news castings.
She seems like a ‘humanitarian’ from appearance and first impression, but I haven’t heard anything from her except part of the resignation speech, which in and of itself, seems proper and appropriate, considering the circumstances at a glance.
I’m not familiar with her work either, but I agree, and think her time in office was to buy time for that other minister before her, who had *messed some things up.*
I don’t think anyone can truly mess anything up. It can be undone. The parliament and all was built from scratch; of course rebuilding it would come with the obvious blue prints and precedence. I do wonder why they’re acting as if they’re the ones being “bumped on the head,” by some neighbor like Russia…
They can do it. Certainly. Complaining doesn’t help enforce the solutions.
The cult of personality and hero worship for Thatcher ultimately allowed Truss and those close to her to ignore sound financial advice from economists.
One of the funny things about great leaders of the past is that they're as defined by their circumstances as they are by their character. We live in a fairly economically right wing world, with union power at a low, taxes lower than they have been, etc. When you admire somebody who helped to start these trends, there can be a tendency to want to replicate the actions of your hero, but the circumstances have to be right! Thatcher obtained power at the end of the 70s where the top income tax rate was almost 90%, unions were holding the country ransom, and the miners were led by (today) an avowed Stalinist. This kind of extreme economic illiteracy in the opposite direction opens the door for a Thatcher to whip people back into shape.
We simply don't need that today, and Truss is several decades too late to implement her vision. Even Thatcher eventually got carried away with the poll tax, and it too led to her being ousted.
Sometimes a strident disregard of consensus is not heroic or bold; sometimes it's just stupid.
Truss would never have been PM if it had been a general election. Simple as that.
The problem is there's no viable alternative party. The Tories need to recall an experienced minister still in the commons who held public trust - ruling Boris out - to take over
Technically Charles can invite ANY SITTING MP to form a government. Churchill was an Independent in his second stint as PM after the war when Her Majesty's reign began. The Tory leader doesn't have to be Prime Minister.
Maybe His Majesty should invite a backbencher who's never sought the premiership to be PM. Let's face it, they couldn't do worse than Truss.
Wouldn't we all, but unfortunately that simply isn't going to happen... And even if it did there's no guarantee that we wouldn't be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
My husband reckons we should all vote for the Raving Loony Party as their fighting slogan has always been "Vote Insanity You Know It Makes Sense"... Maybe, just maybe, he might just be right!

There are a number of things happening. Johnson engineered her installation because she was so incompetent that it would make him look good in retrospect. He hoped he would be returned to power after the inevitable collapse in her support. However, the globalist neoliberals (Blair, WEF, and company) are the ones benefitting, not Johnson. Their short-term goal is to bring a remainer, globalist into office. It is likely there will be elections soon enough, at which time they will install Kier Starmer. He is absolutely loyal to the US elites and their minions like Blair, and will not think twice about crushing protests this winter when food and energy supply crises begin taking their toll.
