Why young people who look like liberals, still wear masks in public transit?

Question

I don't know about your country, but in my country, the use of mask is optional now, and not a mandatory as it's used to be.

I understand old people wearing a mask, for many reasons, since their health is vulnerable in any way.

But what about the young people? From what I notice those who still wear, LOOK (I don't swear they are, but chances are they're Indeed) like a typical liberal/feminist. The girls wear oversized glasses, or have unnatural hair color, or they have multiple piercings on their ears. The guys who do on the other hand, don't look so manly, and those who don't, often have liberal political views.

This really makes me believe, that there's a liberal background behind the pandemic. I don't see any other explanation why the young people who still wear masks, have these looks.

It's polite and considerate?

If you go to Japan people wear masks on public transit and while shopping even if they just have a cold. It's part of the culture because they aren't obnoxious whiny babies about everything like Americans are. They'd rather not lose the work hours if they don't have to.

People who use public transit tend to get sick way more than people who don't.

It's funny how so many aggressively conservative males claim that women are petty, gossipy, and judgmental when its ALL you losers do all day every day. Just take a breath and read a book on the train like a normal human being.

You don’t know them. What does it matter?  I respect people for who they are unless being asinine. Someone wearing a mask means nothing to me.

I don't use public transportation but I always wear a surgical mask when I go outside because in my country there are still 80 cases of COVID-19 a day.

You obviously don't understand the purpose of wearing a mask. It's not to protect the wearer, but rather the people around them.

I lost several members of my family to CoViD, all of whom were older and vulnerable, and might not have died had more people been less ignorant about things like wearing masks.

I'm conservative, by the way. This issue should NOT be about politics.
