No vaccine mandates. No lock downs. No critical race theory. No state income tax. There are still many small businesses owners that thank Govenor DeSantis for allowing them to keep their businesses open during the pandemic. No wonder they are getting more new residents than any other state.
+1 yI think that Florida COULD be a model for other states in many of its’ laws, but the one of the GREAT things about the U. S. is if you don’t like the laws in your “country” (aka State), then you are free to either lobby to change those laws, or just move to any one of FITY ONE others, if you include Puerto Rico and Guam. Florida works for Florida! I don’t think that just because one state is run successfully that THAT model would necessarily work for another state. Just as an example, let’s say that all of the accomplishments that you listed for MY home state, actually happened in Wyoming. Well there are MORE people in JUST Miami-Dade County (2,662,777) than there are in the ENTIRE State of Wyoming! (578,803). There is no way that laws and policies designed for a massive state like Florida would ever work in a sparsely populated state like Wyoming. Now, I DO believe that many of the laws and policies enacted by Florida, like the anti-woke “education not indoctrination” policy, the voter reform and ID laws that make it easier to vote but harder to cheat, and firing prosecutors who don’t follow state law, and who fail to prosecute “quality of life” crimes like shoplifting, burglary, trespassing, simple battery, etc… because THEY don’t personally believe that those laws should be enforced. YES, I believe that all states should follow those examples. But Florida has no income tax because our states budget is funded by tourism taxes on things like hotel rooms and theme park admissions, and car rentals etc.. That just would not work in many low tourist states. But that just brings me back to my original statement, one of the GREAT thinks about the U. S… you don’t like the laws of the state where you live, you are free to move! Great question, thanks for asking it, you really made me think about that.

Yes, Biden just dumped 130 illegals near where I live last week. The town had no warning. They had to put them up at the local hotel get them "free" food and clothing. They all went to the local hospital for their free healthcare and 26 kids that could not speak a word of English had to be put into their over taxed school system. Too bad nobody has the clout to get the National Guard to get rid of them like they did on the Vineyard.

Kari Lake says that if she wins in Arizona, on day one she will announce an invasion on the border, and then Biden will have to get off his corrupt ass and do something.

2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No, and here's why. You said it right. Everyone wants to move there and here's the rub. They are!
More people equals bad news. Pretty soon it will be crowded like California when everyone was moving there too. Before you know it, your paradise is so crowded with people, there are long lines and traffic!
Long lines at all the amusement parks! To go to any sports event. Lines at the hospitals and doctors offices. No where to find parking at the beaches and lakes - everyone goes there!
When the were talking about Florida on the news last night, they said over 51% of the population is Hispanic, like California!!
Maybe you will have benefits of living in Florida. I'm not saying it's all bad. Maybe if you like becoming a professional hurricane watcher and mandatory evacuator, Florida might be the place for you.
Florida might not be over crowded yet, but it won't take long now.
A friend of mine moved there years ago. She didn't like it and moved back to Tennessee. She said the streets out there are weird. She also didn't like the floods that came through the house she was renting everytime a hurricane came to town.
If Florida is going to become a political model, that's great.
But if you are thinking about moving there, people need to consider the other things that come with any model state. It's not just politics.
I gotta go. I'm keeping my eye on the hurricane headed for Florida.115 Reply- +1 y

She’s probably sour on Hispanics because of all the first generation Mexicans (specifically illegals) in California. They break the rules to get there and then just keep on breaking the rules. There’s a huge difference between people who jump borders illegally and think the South West United States is their birth right homeland to be conquered and colonized out in California and a bunch of based Cubans and Venezuelans that fled communism and would fight tooth and nail against it to maintain their American freedoms. Puerto Ricans that were born American already have a stake in our country being that they are citizens from birth and they also make up a huge part of the Latin population here. Brazilians (Portuguese) tend to be pretty fucking based as well. There is a different Latin cultural dynamic in Florida than in California. They are two different worlds.

As far the hurricanes are concerned, flooding from storm surge isn’t something most Floridan's deal with. First, hurricanes don’t generally hit you directly very often. Second, storm surge is mainly a concern for people that live directly on the ocean on the barrier islands. Most of my life I lived about 2 miles from the beach about 15 feet above sea level and never even got close to being affected by storm surge. I could drive to the beach in under 5 minutes or ride a bike there in about 10. There is no real reason to live right on the ocean. There are random coastal dunes scattered through the state, so if you live in property on one or shielded by one, the storm surge can’t really reach you. Now I live about 8 miles from the beach at about 26 feet above sea level. Even the 500 year flood event of hurricane Ian didn’t flood my property, but the storm water was pretty high in ditches. With Nicole that just hit a day ago, all all that happened was that the streets got wet and a few leave blew off the trees. People generally exaggerate the damage from hurricanes. If you use some common sense when you select where to live they really aren’t an issue. Don’t buy in a flood zone. Get a home made from CBS/Stucco. Make sure your home has impact windows or hurricane shutters. That’s about it.

@BeMuse I don’t throw up the race card, ever, but that sounds pretty racist to me. To explain in detail all of the negative points, and include in on one of those points being Hispanic. It sounds like she’s judged an entire race of people. I served my country, and I am certainly not a free loader. That’s why it’s best to judge people based on who they are rather than their race. Taking the worst traits from an entire subset of people, and apply them to a race as an entirety seems racism. If the issue is the free-loader issue and illegal immigrants, then address them as exactly that rather than just Hispanics. To say that the issue is Hispanics is to assume every Hispanic is a free loader and illegal immigrant.
- +1 y
@Reng29 When I said 51% of Florida's population is Hispanic, U was just stating a fact that the news said about Florida. Nothing else! You are way overthinking this and taking what I was quoting from the tv news too personal. And one more thing about what you said it us never safe to assume anything because you could be wrong, and in this case you are wrong. Lighten up man!
- +1 y
@Reng29 You a little sensitive on Veterans Day Martinez? Don’t get your panties in a wad. Are you an American first or are you a Hispanic first? You throw the race card, she denies it… Fuck all that bullshit and think of it this way. She lives in California. A bunch of reconquista goons, La Raza, and MS-13 flood across the border illegally daily with the help of communist globalists that want to destroy our country, like Soros and the cartels who get financed by China. A quiet war is being waged against America on the South Western border utilizing an asymmetric warfare doctrine developed by Fidel Castro in the 1980s. Illegal emigration is used to break our system and siphon off our resources in an attempt to extort our country. They say if you don’t want illegal immigrates flooding across your border, give us money and invest in our economy. No matter how much you give them they will keep pushing and demanding more. They’re not here to be Americans. Are you? The conflict is real, but most people that live there do not know it is being waged against them...
- +1 y
@Reng29 They foster communism in our country, yell monicures at Americans like colonizer and tell them to go back to Europe shortly after they have crossed the border illegally. They target Asians and call them White privileged. They even call Black Republicans White supremacists. They bring crime to the community in many forms. Everything from rape and murder of civilians to smuggling in fentanyl laced drugs that kill naive kids in the community. They fight along side ANTIFA in communist riots. They rig elections compromising our republic. They stress the social safety nets and tax coffers. They disrupt the institutions like schools, hospitals, police, food banks, and forest firefighters. They impact the local economy and extract wealth out of the country in an effort to import more illegals and expand the war. They even traffic Latin kids into underground slave networks. You might catch a little friendly fire from time to time, don’t take it personal. People that live out there should be mad. Shit, you should be mad if you love your country. They are up to their neck in shit and they’re getting no help. Not every Hispanic is an angel even if many are named that. There are tons of great Hispanics across our nation that came here the right way for the right reason and many more that were born here. You happy now bitch? Now go grill some meat and drink some beer.
- +1 y
Yeah, as a Hispanic who was born in, and am living in Broward county, Florida I would REALLY like an answer to @Zenit93 ‘s question, please… What PRECISELY is wrong with 51% of a population (or 70% of Miami-Dade county, or 35% of my home, Broward county) being Hispanic? Also it would be very enlightening if you could provide a detailed explanation as to why more people (Hispanics) moving here would be bad? Oh, long wait times at hospitals and Dr’s offices, I totally get, more traffic? As a fairly new driver I REALLY get that. But more Hispanics? That was a REALLY hurtful thing to read!

+1 ySuccess creates more problems for Florida eventually. So yes, for those items, it's a good model, in certain states. But some people like their approach, and others do not.
I'm not sure that all works in big cities... there is a difference when you have higher density areas and a virus going around... with high numbers, can crush the hospitals fast.
But if I was moving to a state, that one be on the list. People go there for the weather and the lower tax hit. It's not perfect, they have problems... and with all the NYC democrats fleeing there, it will slowly... be under different pressures.

Florida has the third largest population in the country. They fared better than most states during the pandemic DeSantis took care of the elderly and didn't shut down all the small businesses. Where I live there is at least one empty space in every strip mall and a couple of businesses that were around forever are closed for good. If I was still running a small business in 2020 I would have tried to fly under the radar and try to stay open. It was a shame that people had to break the law to earn a living.

If you're of the left and rather extreme at that then Florida might not be to your liking.

+1 yFlorida has it right on many things. No state income tax only works, though, because Florida has such a huge tourism-base. Hotel, transportation, restaurant and amusement taxes make up the majority of Florida's annual budget. There are not many other states that can do that.
Other states can learn from Florida, but ultimately each state has to do what makes sense for it.
11 Reply- +1 y
@AviatorTom Sure no state tax sounds great, that is until the state doesn't provide services for disabled children and adults. I am so greatful to live in a State that has a State tax, otherwise my disabled son could not live the life he is living. He would have been turned into a homeless disabled person with no one to care for him. So State tax can be a good thing.
A friend of mine just had $350 deposited in his bank account because he's a senior and did his taxes in 2020. They had an overabundance of money in the rainy day kitty and that's what they did with it. It is called the relief inflation check.
6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Of course not. Much of what florida is capable of is due to the weather, which is not available for most of the rest of us. They also help people that actually aren't lazy survive. We also have checks in place , although not perfect, to determine if the person receiving it qualifies. We need to care for people that need it. You're complaining about laziness that isn't really the problem. I say if you apologize for saying your stupid shit then I'll gladly apologize to you. You see the difference between me and you is I know I'm stopping to your level but I know that it's wrong. So I will sit her and say... yeah I'm being a jerk intentionally to give it back to you.. Like I said you apologize for using the N word and I'll apology wholeheartedly to you for being a jerk. If you don't think you have to apologize that's fine too. I don't think you have it in you to be civil anyway...

I see. So we’ve decided to resort to child like behavior then instead of talking things through like adults.
Anyway I was just messing around and guess what? It wasn’t the other guy who got offended, it was YOU who got offended - +1 y
@WhiteBoyChill I'm not offended. You can't offend me calling someone else a terrible slur lol. That's not an adult like behavior. An adult knows that's not messing around and that's a word you use to really hurt someone. You're not being an adult "messing around" that way. I have used way less aggressive language to you than you throw around. I could then say I'm just messing around with too then. If you were just messing around, however terrible a way that is to mess around, then just say you're sorry. And to be less childish, I'm sorry I resorted to acting this way to prove a point. Maybe I could have made it differently and gotten you to acknowledge that what you said is terrible and helped you find a better way to say what you wanted to say. If you want to engage like adults over this your next step could be acknowledging something similar in your own words of course. If you can't/won't do that in your next reply, if you choose to reply, I say what else is there left for you to say? Your point about my behavior towards you is made. I acknowledge that. Can you acknowledge what your "messing around" was trying to accomplish? Also, how is that acting like an adult and trying to talk things through? It sounds like your saying act as I say not as I do.. Feel free to explain. Thanks.
