The question is, are the servers currently large enough to monitor the entire population or are specific targets being spied upon. Does the utterance of specific words or phrases switch the smart speaker from being in a 'passive' listening mode to 'active' surveillance?

Further food for thought, smart speakers may also be used to insert subliminal messaging to targeted individuals, with the intent to modify their behavior.

Not sure but won’t be surprised I’ll be talking to a friend about Pokémon and next time I get on YouTube I’m inundated with Pokémon adds or Pokémon videos. Also watched house of the dragon and YouTube started giving me a bunch of game of thrones clips to watch so I wouldn’t doubt it.

I was talking to my wife about something that I would like to buy, and when I went on my computer there were ads for that popping up.
I heard one of the DJs talking about the same thing, he mentioned to his wife that he would someday get a pickup truck, and ad for those started popping up.
He had not yet looked at them on his computer or phone.

Good point about the phone. But I think it has more options whether to share info with your service provider. That’s an assumption I grant you. We can never fully know.

Though Apple keeps pissing law enforcement when they want to break into a phone. Makes me feel a little better.
