What's your take on the old-fashioned belief that a man should never hit nor lay hands on a woman regardless of circumstances?

My own take: Ideally, you shouldn't hit a woman, but unfortunately, many young women out there today want to behave aggressively like men and push a man's buttons knowing he won't do anything back to having a belief instilled into him that he should never hit a girl so they take advantage of that.

If a man has no other choice, he should use only the necessary amount of physical force on a female aggressor to defuse such situation. While I don't advocate or encourage violence against women at all, at the same time, I won't feel sympathy for women who willingly put themselves in an unnecessary position of getting physically hurt by a man after trying to pick a fight. That, to me, is the equivalent of a human male picking a fight with a grizzly bear, not expecting to get his face mauled/destroyed after that.

I think men should still abide by that belief as they're still the much physically stronger gender.

I think it's such an antiquated and obsolete belief today, especially now that many women these days don't even behave like ladies themselves.

I'm mixed on this. A man ideally shouldn't be laying his hands on a woman, but if he must, use only a necessary amount of force when put in a situation of being attacked by a woman.

Utter idiocy. One should not use force unless they have to- and if you're in a place where you DO have to, it's usually going to be better to someone overestimate what you need to subdue and/or escape someone, and risk injuring or killing them than underestimate it and fail to stop them. Should the capacities of that person to harm you enter into your estimations? Sure- but a woman who's a trained MMA fighter or a master martial artist or just hopped up on PCP is still going to be a serious threat.

From a more purely pragmatic standpoint, if you're not alone, social factors will also dictate what's called for- in many cases, you'll be safer killing a woman outright than simply beating her up, if you're not alone. This probably does (and certainly should) horrify you- but it's an outgrowth of that same assumption that "women aren't worthy of respect, even as sources of violence".

A man- or a woman, for that matter- should avoid violence when the consequence of doing so isn't worse than that of ignoring it, but if it IS, then gender shouldn't enter into the equation.

I think the best thing to do is remove yourself from the situation if a woman is getting aggressive with you. If she's getting physically violent and you can't get away from them, then you need to use the minimum force necessary to stop them, while trying to get away from them to avoid injuring them.

If they come at you with a weapon, like a knife, bottle, or even a stiletto heel, then knock her the fuck out.

There never was such a "belief". If anything, men beat women LESS now due to domestic abuse laws and the laws being more prone to listening to women.
