The fact is, when any species is separated for extended periods and when humans were separated for tens of thousands of year, they keep evolving but with differences. A lot of people want to fix race issues, without talking about why there are race issues. They just want to say "racism bad, stop it". But when someone wants to talk about it openly and discuss the problems, suddenly they are accused of being racist. If you are going to fix problems, you have to identify them first.

On the other hand, the same information needed to fix problems can be used in racist ways. Heck, you see it here on GaG all the time. The same information can be used to fix problems, or it can be used as an excuse to be racist.
