You answered your own question. It is about the hundred bucks. Do you think the people that work at the registry are going to get raises on their own?

In most states, that money is used for road maintenance. $45 for my vehicle in Florida.
it's a way to pay for use of roads and creates work. I think every few years is sufficient in some areas. once a year is excessive.
Now if we start talking global climate change and efficiency... we are wasting a lot of resources doing that.
It's basically a tax. You use the roads, so you need to pay for them.
California is expensive. Most states that I know of have a fixed fee for registration. California bases it on the price of the car, so more expensive cars cost more (unless it's changed since I lived there).
States provide lots of services, like roads. It's gotta be paid for.
Not really sure about here in America but it sounds like a tax for using your car. At home we have something called road tax that pays to maintain the roads and fix potholes so you are paying your share to upkeep the road you drive on. Just like car insurance you have to pay it to be zble to legally drive just in case you have an accident and can't pay.
basically it's to keep tabs on you. if your car were to ever be involved in a crime scene it would help to know who was the last owner and what country/state/city it is registered in etc. Taxes and other bullshit. mostly it's to take your money haha but it does help in certain occasions that you nor I or the other person reading this comment will likely NEVER encounter in your/our life even when it happens on a daily basis to others. :D
You pay around 50% in taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, gas taxes, and then another 30% in fees, charges, surcharges. Also parking meters, mandates, fundings and of course, car registration. My grandfather said when he was young drivers licenses didn't have pictures on them, but they were used as ID everywhere, even at the airport.
I agree, it's a scam. I have to pay the town an annual registration fee in addition to the state's where I live and the fees are a percentage of whatever some beurocrat tells you your car is worth. Some states have a flat rate.
It's about money. The more democratic your state... the higher it is. If it's high and it's currently republican... look at your state's recent history... there is a reason it is high.
We got rid of the sticker system in Ontario, Canada, only have to renew your license/card and your plate now.
Not really where I live the rego helps to pay for the 3rd party insurance so if you have an accident and your at fault the 3rd party insurance helps to pay for the damages done to the other car.
Always a scam plus the government over taxes people on their property taxes I thought the lottery was supposed to pay for the school system not thousands of dollars for each property owner. This is getting out of hand.
It's a tax. It's going into the maintenance of roads that make driving manageable.
Yes it's a scam, but it keeps illegals from owning a car, so they just steal one instead.
Do you know what your vehicle registration pays for? You should look into it.
Its not like they forget what car you drove last year...
Commiefornia taxes are insane. If not for Prop 13 I'd leave.
It is a scam. It's just an excuse to extort you.
