As a writer and content creator, there are two companies I work with on the regular in the last several months. Both have embraced leveraging AI like chatGPT and other tools, and no it’s not replacing what I do, it’s assisting what I do.
I’ve been using AI consistently since January and I personally love what it can do and how it can help me get work done faster. I always tweak the output as needed.
I do a lot of freelancing and self management work so I see a lot of commentary within job listings and LinkedIn posts that are against using AI. I know some people are getting fired for using it as well, which I think it’s unfortunate because this shit is flipping the world on its head, and it’s quickly becoming woven into the fabric of the way we work and do daily life, like it not. Winners adapt and evolve with growing technology and those employers afraid of it will be left behind.

As someone who works in IT I've long said AI is much of a muchness. It's nothing special as technology has always moved on. But the people "scared" of it are the same idiots who were scared of the motorcar replacing the horse, or the sword replacing the sharpened rock.
Technology moves on, and careers move on. We no longer need as many blacksmiths and farriers. But the ones we do have are in a specialist career.
Journalists and most writers are at best glorified gossips and do the same shit over and over. Hence 90% of their work can be replaced with automation. You could say the same of most GP's and lawyers. A lot of this "froth work" can be supplanted with greater efficiency.
The work and jobs this will be replaced with will be even more complex and specialist though. Right now it seems only China and Japan have the right mix for it. This is why it's Americans and Europeans who are bitching about AI more than the Chinese or Japanese.
Industrialisation was a Western concept and made the West rich. AI is an Eastern concept and is going to make the East richer.
Working in IT doesn't imply experience or even shallow knowledge. Maybe you've studied the math and have experience, but no one in IT is expected to.
I see large swaths of IT and web-devs being replaced by AI at some point. They're not engineers and the glue code they write to connect services they don't understand can be automated eventually. Some can stick around to "engineer" the input requirements.
We don't need half as many as we have today, if that. A small number build innovative systems and would be safe I imagine; the rest are so often so incapable.
Journalism, the real kind, can't be replaced by a bot, but have you stopped to think about the ramifications of automated media generation, health care, and legal representation (!)? Have you thought any of this through?
No nuance in law? A dystopian future where machines process inputs and compute our fate according to a model no one understands? No more judges I assume either then? The same input always produces the same output, so there is no roon for interpretation. You don't understand the 'why' you know - ever.

The US leads this race by far and it's not even close. China is making progress and the EU is falling further behind, but the US is leading. Substantially. I don't know where you got that idea.
They have said AI will bring the extinction of the human race, and the folks who said it were not looney. That said, I think you are spot on. But AI can't to any CREATIVE, ETHICAL OR SAFETY stuff, and that's what my work is all about. However, it will effect my work more than anything in the past. Change is the only constant and you have to adapt and come and quietly sit at the table,,,,, or you WILL BE ON THE TABLE, I mean you will be part of the menu. Guess we live in interesting times. Flux is another word for opportunity... let the butt fucking begin and it will not be me bending over.
In my profession (MD), AI can't be used very much for the time being. However, the potential in diagnosing patients is great. Once an AI can get access to medical records, samples, see images, hear voices, etc., then they could potentially be used to make the diagnoses. And do so more efficiently than humans. It could also be an extra help to see details a human doctor may have overlooked. If it can access a global database with the latest, but validated knowledge, it will be able to do a better job than humans eventually.
An AI combined with high precision robotics, will be able to do better in surgery as well.
The possibilities are enormous, but they are not here yet.
AI can't write code for me, but off the top of my head I can think of a few reasons why they'd ban AI output, but the copyright issue is more than enough. It's not clear that the 'work' you're submiting is yours to claim. Output that doesn't satisfy the authorship standard may land in the public domain, and a derivative under that standard may belong to the owner of training material weighted heavily in your output.
It may well not belong to you or your publisher, and the issue isn't yet decided. It seems unlikely it will transfer to you in either case (I assume yours is a derivative work; otherwise why use it? I could be wrong.)
Next depends on the subject. Inaccuracies and bias in its output exist and how are you verifying sources?
The first issue is enough; you may not own what you're been collecting payments for. Be careful.
Hopefully you don't apply this to your own relationship blog. Because I think you're a very intelligent woman and fully capable of coming up with your own thoughts.
I write a lot of reports and it would be nice to use AI to dictate/create reports. If they could combine it into a word processing software, it would be nice. People, who use it could be doing other things while dictating the content in their reports/books. The AI could edit and read it back to them.
Where I work that hasn't become an issue or been brought up yet. However a buddy of mine that is a school teacher says that he received a class on how to use it as a way to detect cheating from students.
He says he has caught three cheating already, but he ultimately doesn't like it because it detracts from learning and the students don't try.
Something I really hate about modern society is that American capitalist individualistic values seem to be spreading globally to the point that it's everyone for themselves and if you can't keep up, then fuck you, you are too weak and it is only right you get weeded out.
I don't know but I'm not liking all this AI stuff, something catastrophic is going to happen involving this and I can almost smell the chaos, I know I can't be the only one feeling like something is gonna happen.
You’d still need a human to prompt for the right output, edit, cite sources, plug in links, and refresh old content. I mean if want to do that yourself then knock yourself out but just know that there’s more to writing than writing.
At work they encourage it, I am very involved with the text generation AI myself so I avoid it. I know to much about them to know I can't rely on them and prefer regular searches.
I didn't know it existed until about a week or two ago. I have no idea how to use it and I'm not interested in using it. I write my own stuff. I don't want a computer putting words in my mouth
That is a tough one! I vacillate between using it as a tool and indulging in plagiarism. Honestly, it does take away the burden off from doing "chores" but it also can have a dangerous influence in curtailing original thinking.
No, they didn't talk about it directly, but remember that it's a self-learning algorithm and any data you send to it can be reused. So this falls under any other regular confidentiality/NDA clause.
