Whose standards are we specifically talking about here? I've come across this expression when, by mistake, I apparently "violated" them online, but I still have no idea how or why. And why contemporary standards? What if I'm reluctant to embrace modern values because I think they're horrible?

Standards aren't specified by some IT nerds.
They only think so.
Anything ''contemporary'' is worth a shit if you ask me.
(''me'' = a kind of Hippie and activist from the last century)
((well... Trump also is a relict -same as me- ... God help you people once I'm gone :D ))
What if you are reluctant to embrace modern values? Then you are probably not welcome in a lot of places, some of which are websites online which has the right to kick you out or limit your access on these grounds. Your actions and behavior have consequences, some of which you will not like but it is still your fault.
My "fault"? You make it sound as though having a different opinion from the majority is something heinous. It's called freedom, the freedom to be who we really are and express our views openly without the worry of being censored for simply upsetting certain people who can't handle those who just disagree with them.
And who gets to decide what's "acceptable" and what isn't? People like you?
Freedom does not mean freedom from consequences. Just like how you have the freedom to express yourself so too do other people have the freedom to distance themselves from you, and since they are the ones who own various websites and whatnot, they have the freedom to kick you out on the basis of your behavior.
For example, if I own a shop I can decide if I dont want a customer to remain in my shop anymore. This does not mean the customer has done something wrong such as broken a law or that they need to go to court. You do not have to do something illegal to be thrown out because that is part of THEIR freedoms.
So what ARE contemporary community standards then? I asked the question because it's an incredibly vague concept, and I just thought someone here might have the answer. I guess not.
"Contemporary community standards" are just the collective agreement of a local area, meaning it depends on those that are there. It is incredibly "vague" if you want to call it that because it relates to the personal beliefs and opinions of those people.
A little context would help. Was it on GaG? Did you break the ToS?
Why do you need context? The question is clear enough. I've come across this expression a few times, and at no point is it ever explained by the tech companies what it actually means. Whose standards are we talking about? What "community"? Why "contemporary" community standards, and not those of 50 years ago for example?
Well I've never heard the phrase "contemporary community standards". Maybe it's a regional dialect?
