I think being proud of either is dumb. Cause you didn't do anything to be one or the other. You were most likely born with it unless you moved there and got your papers later.

@loveslongnails homophobia?
- +1 y
@zeitgeist057 I'm not sure if they LEAD the world in that, but it's definitely up there, pardon the pun. The USA is absolutely #1 in percentage of incarcerated citizens, overall gun violence, child deaths by gun violence, maternal deaths among industrialized nations, and most money spent on health care with the worst results... just to name a few. :) Oh yeah, according to 2015 PEW Research, a bit older admittedly, and I site them because of how renowned they are for unbiased, legitimate information, the US ranks 24th worldwide in reading and science, 51st in math. Lovely.

@loveslongnails You don't have to be smart to be proud. In fact, it might help you be more proud the dumber you are.

@zeitgeist057 Can't argue with that! Dumb people are often full of pride because they don't understand what's going on!

nothing wrong with celebrating something you're happy with for a day. but forcing your shit down everyones throat for a month is a bit overbearing. like nobody would bat an eye, if it was "pride day". that's fine. pride month? get a grip.
Asker+1 yOkay so for you its not about why they celebrate it but how long they do it?
Also you look freakingly similar to a side teacher I had in gymnasium..- +1 y
well how long do you celebrate really important historical shit? for a day right? so that seems the appropriate ammount of celebration time for something that's really important. being gay is not 30 times more important than like freaking Juneteenth or something.

Asker+1 yI think @snowboarder720 would love to argue on that...

he says society praises being straight. where exactly does it do that?
- +1 y
@genericname85 the thing about "nobody celebrates being straight" and "why do we make a whole month out of it" is that we don't need to celebrate straight. You don't like "forcing your shit down everyone's throat for a month"? Well, for LGBTQ folks, your "shit is forced down their throat" nigh on 365 days a year their entire lives. It's about representation for the minorities. People who have not been represented. The privilege of being in the majority is everywhere you look, you are confirmed and validated. When you watch TV, when your political representatives represent you. The POTUS is always a straight, married man. The majority of shows depict straight relationships. Here's a really great podcast by a gay guy who grew up in Mormon Utah, if you want to check it out, he talks about the impact and importance of representation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cmv-LxMUK0&themeRefresh=1

@zeitgeist057 so you just determined "we don't need to celebrate being straight. since you have the right to determine that, i have the right to determine "we don't have to celebrate being lgbtq".
- +1 y
and since being straight is not celebrated, it is at no point shoved down anyones throat. your argument is invalid.
- +1 y
Sorry, I don't think you understood what I was saying. We DO CELEBRATE being straight. It is celebrated every day, it is prevalent and in the streets, everywhere you look. Every parade that isn't a gay pride parade is a "straight parade". That is what I mean. It's ubiquitous. Being straight IS celebrated. That's what I mean when I said it is confirmed and validated everywhere you look. I didn't "determine it", I didn't say being straight isn't worthy of celebration. What I said is that it is already "celebrated". Every party is a straight party, every concert, every Super Bowl, every World Series, every New Year's and Christmas are straight holidays and events. It's all straight.

u +1 y1. If you are not capable of feeling proud about who you are, then you cannot understand being proud to be an American. People who are proud Americans are not stupid or unthinking, and we know it does not represent a personal accomplishment.
2. I don't have a problem with LGBTQ or anybody else being proud, but I do have a problem if anyone wants to get in my face about it or tell me that I must accept all of that as normal.
20 Reply 1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. You're young so let me tell you a little history. 8-10 years ago almost nobody had a problem with the homosexuals, butch lesbians and transgenders. We tolerated them. Then we started noticing them pushing an agenda where almost every tv show, and movie suddenly had homo this and trans that. They started demanding special rights and to have their flag everywhere. They're a very tiny minority but they act like they're entitled to get treated as if they're more important than heterosexuals. A lot of people are tired of that and there's a backlash now.
Secondly, the culture war is becoming more extreme, due to that side pushing their filth, insisting on public sex and stuff that straight people don't find normal or appropriate in public. Their anti-social behavior is causing a pro society reaction.
That U. S. patriotism you don't care about: it's obscene to live in a country and to talk against the foundation of that nation. You wouldn't go to Mexico or Afghanistan talking crap about their nations so don't do it in the U. S. and expect it not to bite you one day.

+1 yYou say it's dumb to be proud because you were born this way and didn't earn it. I get that, you're saying we should only be proud of stuff like we worked hard to be able to swim the 5K, or run a marathon, or earn a Nobel Peace Prize, &c.
I selected "neither is dumb" because I think it's okay to be proud of things you were born with. I'm proud of my family, I'm proud of my heritage. I'm proud of my looks and intelligence and while I may work out my body and exercise my brain, I was also blessed with good genetics that make it easier for me to look good and excel in mental tasks. I think it's okay to be proud of these things. I realize I didn't "earn" my heritage, but it's still good to honor and enjoy it.
I'm not saying you're an asshole because I think I understand where you are coming from and it's not a mean spirited place. But I think that some people who are down on others for being proud are jerks; it's because they really just hate on gays or Americans, so they express that hatred by telling people not to be proud. To me, that's what is wrong, trying to bring others down with hate.

+1 yI get where youâre coming from but I think youâre confusing pride and patriotism. Pride, especially when relating to LGBTQ+, is about recognizing both the history and embracing your identity in the face of a government and society that actively and continues to reject you. And while I will always call myself American because I am proud of my experience and time in this country, Iâm also allowed to critique my country. That doesnât mean I love my home any less, it means I have a disagreement with the way itâs being run. If you are a heterosexual American (which I imagine you are as these critiques rarely come from people within the queer community) you donât have to celebrate either if you donât wish to, and you can also turn away from celebrations you donât want to participate in. If you do want to participate, I believe both celebrations are open to all who wish to join. Thereâs even some places in Ireland that celebrate the 4th of July just because they think itâs fun. Theyâll put American flags all over and have big outdoor American movie showings.
20 Reply 577 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Most people who have certain proclivities in living their lives which would include them in the LGBTQ+ community actually want nothing to do with the community titled LGBTQ+. It is a very small percentage of us who are radical, disruptive, and "proud". The vast majority of the rest of us just want to quietly live our lives as we see fit. I predict that the radicals will eventually, hopefully soon, crawl back into the holes from which they came. I am sick of having the LGBTQ+ agenda shoved down my throat and having these few radicals attempting to dictate how the world in the future will be modeled after them and them alone.
Regarding patriotism: When I was about 18 years old, I had an internal self-conversation about patriotism. At a particularly patriotic feeling moment, I asked myself why I was feeling so patriotic. I was 18 years old. What had I done to contribute to our country? Other than doing the best that I could to be a contributing member of society, I had done nothing particularly patriotic. I then realized that I was thankful for being born in the U. S. I also came to realize that by being the best person I could be and by looking up to the vision that my country's founders went to great pains to hammer into a workable system, that I was an integral part of the U. S., so sure, I have patriotic pride. I also realized that further improvement is always a good thing. No laurel-resting. Patriotism feels very different to me now than it did previous to having those thoughts.
Speaking of improvement, being "woke" is not the way. Wokeism is a massive, massive problem for the world today. The woke radicals, more numerous than the LGBTQ+ radicals, would do themselves and the world a favor by looking at the world through clear lenses.

+1 yBoth parties that control America derived from the same party the Democratic-Republican party. What better way to fool Americans than pretending they're opposition parties when in reality, they are one group of quasi-elitists who are controlled by oligarchs.
Now most men in America will work their entire lives and when they retire, if they retire, they barely have enough to live on. The average cost of a home is a 30 year mortgages? Americans are living under an illusion. We are $1 trillion in credit card debt, $2 trillion in student loans, $34 trillion in national debt. Somebody has to pay. Generation Z won't see retirement.
The oligarchs are finding innovative ways to keep the working class (proletariats) from ever achieving financial security. Every time we get close to a more equitable society, the feds introduce quantitative easing to set the working class back.
The LBGT community are merely pawns being used in human population planning efforts. Multiple politicians in foreign countries have already exposed these people. The POTUS has no real power. The American Dream is only a dream.
10 Reply3.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It's dumb to be proud of anything you didn't work for. Just been born somewhere is not something you worked for lol. Neither is sexuality or gender.
You'll never see me say I am proud cause I am straight that's dumb af same if I was gay.
You'll never see me say I am proud to be genderfluid.
Now if you are one of the few people out there who was around at the time and actually did work to get rights for gays and etc then you have worked for it therefore you can be proud.
Same way if you were a suffragette who fought for women's right to vote ya should be proud in that. But just be been a woman is not a thing you can just be proud of. Though you can for sure like been a woman if you do. But liking is separate thing to been proud.
Or if you worked for your country, then you can be proud of it as you worked for it but most people work to get money so they can live not because they actually care about the country. And if they were born in any other country they've done the exact same thing just for that country so... it's not as if you are really choosing to work for that country.
So yeah unless your actively working for something it's dumb to be proud in it.00 Reply- 556 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.

Being proud for being American means youâre also proud of history of how it became a nation. That means being proud of both itâs good history and itâs bad history. If youâre proud of this nation forming from stealing land from native Americans, raping their women, and murdering their children that really shows me more of a reflection of you and your morals. Not to mention shipping slaves across the globe only because of the color of their skin. I could go on and on about how disgusting America is with itâs history. Second, the LGBT community is not a problem to be and I understand their desire to be proud of their identity. (I do find who you are attracted to as being fundamental to your self identity weird, but thatâs just me) the transgender community has hijacked the Pride movement into something that has gone from equality and respect to a forced agenda of oppressive rhetoric and propaganda. But celebrating being not normal/ being mentally ill? That's like celebrating schizophrenia or anorexia. A lot of anorexics are proud of their weigh when they're at their lowest, their mental illness doesn't allow them to see that they weren't fat at a normal weigh. Now compare that to a trans person, both are delusional, the difference is that one mental illness gets the right support to be healthy, the other one it's being fed because gender clinics and big pharma make money out of that.

@NotInterestedSorry Simple. If youâve never been outside of the US to see the problems that other countries deal with, you have no basis for comparison and zero experience to draw fromâother than what others have told you and your own limited life experience.
I visited Costa Rica once. Wonderful country. Tourism is a major, major part of their economy. And yet when I was driving around through villages and towns, or hanging out by the beach on the ocean, what did I see?
Rampant pollution. I mean just rivers of clogged up streams flowing through towns full of every imaginable type of litter, trash, and pollution you could think up. I was in awe of it. Iâve traveled all across the US and Iâve never seen anything like it. My city is even on a river. It was like something out of a bad movie on pollution. Cans and bags of trash and diapers and old tires and and hunks of broken plastic and junk, littered the shoreline pumping all the way out into the Atlantic Ocean. So close you could literally touch it.
Or in Germany, when I got to see a beggar in the street. Not a homeless person. Not a bum. Not someone asking for change with a sob story. A beggar. A tiny, emaciated woman, wearing a dirty black robe, huddled and shivering in the street bedside a train station, literally lying on the ground as people walked by and stepped over her, her shriveled withered hand shaking her empty tin cup.
Thatâs the kind of poverty and homelessness you see when you leave the US. Thatâs the kind of pollution you see. And oh, that random road block with sketchy paramilitary officers with machine guns âchecking IDsâ? Yeah. Theyâre totally nothing to worry about. đđ€Šââïž - +1 y

@Exterminatore if you studied English youâd know definitions arenât an issue, itâs usages.
- +1 y
Most of what I said was satire, however definitions are an issue as they determine usage.
Letâs be real. Left wingers have and continue to intentionally misuse words in an attempt to gaslight.
For example the words tolerance and intolerance as related to gays. We are told we must have tolerance for gays. Is that not what we have? Are they not tolerated? I donât see anyone burning them at the stake. I donât see anyone throwing rocks and bottles at their parades. That IS tolerance. They have toleranceâŠ. except from the Muslim terrorists who decided to kill a bunch of them in Miami, however letâs not discuss that. Everyone know it was the evil guns that did that killing NOT the Muslim terrorists and we should investigate if they were really Muslims. They were probably those awful backwards Christians disguised as Muslims.
However, I digress from my point, intolerance is used for anyone who does not approve of homosexuality. See they are intolerant of homosexuals because they are hatemongors. We know it is absolutely impossible to disagree with personal decisions and lifestyles without being chalk full of hate. I advocate for a healthy lifestyle. It must mean I hate fat people and people who are out of shape then right? You know this happens, and that it is an attempt to shame and harass everyone into agreeing with these ideologies. - +1 y
@Exterminatore so your idea of tolerance is what backward countries do? I see tolerance as being equalevalent to how we treat people here in the US
- +1 y
Are you stupid or what?
Tolerance - no one physically attacking gays. No one baring them from employment, no one transgressing their rights - how it is now.
Intolerance - the exact opposite.
WTF is the matter with you? Youâre not so dumb that you need me to explain this and if you are not seeing what I am get your eyes checked. Gays have tolerance in America. Period. End of file. - +1 y
See thatâs just the problem. âI see tolerance asâŠâŠ..â
I donât gaf how you see tolerance. Weâre not working with odds definition of tolerance. Weâre using the standard American English we have all agreed upon. Tolerance has a clearly defined usage.
Canât just go twisting definitions of words to use them as you mean to. Words are void of your emotions. They mean what they mean. Not how you FEEL they should mean to describe your FEELINGS about a situation. For you to describe your feelings you can use the appropriate words but you canât twist the definitions of words.
However, the leaders of the ideology you subscribe to do this with deliberate intent to gaslight, to cloud the issue and put a smoke screen upon it.
Gays have tolerance in America. Tolerance is not the same as acceptance and approval. One can tolerate and not accept and approve. Acceptance and approval carry the concept of tolerance with favor implied to the subject of the sentence. Tolerance implies neither hate nor love but a neutrality not backed up by positive or negative feelings about the subject. - +1 y
Same with the word hostility, which is defined as:
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hostility
This does not describe the position of at least 50% of the the country.
In fact what I see is hostility to those who do not accept and approve. Labeling them hatemongors and homophobes. Seeking to shame them into submission. Trying to label ANY dissent as hate speech. That is hostility, not where most people are which is accepting and approving or at words a benign indifference. That is what describes the position of MOST Americans. Therefore, on the whole they are NOT treated with hostility here in America. - +1 y
@Exterminatore agree but as you see in the dictionary, there are multiple meanings. Tolerance is also âbearing continued subjection to somethingâ.

+1 yBeing proud of your country hold Some patriot concept about it. loving your country and defending it with your life. But proud of being gay is like what? Proud of your bedroom situation?

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yIt's equally dumb. Though, I do think some of the dislike for the LGBTQ community, that does seap into other factors like rolling your eyes at "pride), is their inclination towards 'victimhood'.

+1 yBeing proud to be American is associated more with pride in oneâs country as opposed to individual pride. Being proud of LGBT is just being prions of being a pervert, sexual degenerate, and a narcissistic attention whore.

Maybe thankful is better...

Well if my question is dumb then I'm trying to prove a point.
Asker+1 yWhy you complicating everything? Like a woman on her periodđ
Either way "sure":)- +1 y
Why do you think it's complicated? It doesn't take a genius. Also i don't see what's wrong with women (even on her period), but you do so that's your own problem

Asker+1 yAgree! But why being proud of being American is valid?
Opinion Owner+1 yIf you have to ask then you donât know anything about history or the world.
Itâs also pretty crappy to think that people who live in a country somehow have no hand in maintaining it or making it a good place to live. For all you know that person who is proud to be an American is a firefighter and works as a medic in the national guard.
Asker+1 yNo I do know history but nobody said its because of the history. Thats a valid point if thats what you wanna go with.
But just being proud of being American when you haven't done anything is weird. Just because you are American
Blind nationalism and tribalism are toxic elements that have no place in a orderly society.
