A lot of the police departments I used to del with would not issue a gun permit to somebody who had a restraining order put out on them or and arrest for domestic violence. One department used to put a notice on the bulletin announcing Mr. X has applied for a gun permit does anyone have a problem with that. If one of the cops knew this guy was an asshole they would let the chief know and the chief would deny the request.
@exitseven Um hi, Texas.
Hell no. Women lie about domestic violence often enough that taking men's rights away is completely uncalled for. Men who fight back when women assault them and then call police are deemed domestic violence perpetrators falsely, and this happens a lot. Women have been known to deliberately injure themselves and then blame the injuries on a man just to become "victims."
It's such a high and documented risk, at least make it harder or take longer for them to get guns or something. Bullshit

Actual DV offenders or the fascistic notion that you should just fuck over accused parties and treat them as guilty from the get go?
Oh, so you're the stunning and brave supporter of status quo. Or are you just unaware of the fact that federal regulations have prohibited misdemeanor DV perpetrators of owning a gun for the rest of their lives. This has been the case federally for nearly 30 years thank to the Lautenberg Amendment, and even prior to it, most places had local and statewide bans in place.
I'd say after they pay their debt to society, they can have them back.
Rights can only be taken away only when they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
SPs mean sexual predators and parole boards don't put people in prison after their sentence for being sexual predators. People don't go to prison again for this and instead go to high security hospitals. I know about this mainly because I worked doing this for about 2 months before I realized that I was risking my license and violating people's constitutional rights by doing it and quit.
@Snakeyes7 I get your feeling and agree. But sexual psychopathy or sadism isn’t curable. So it’s like involuntary institutionalizing to protect society. Rapists will never quit if that’s the only way they will get off. And killing their victims to stay out of jail is the reason behind most serial killers.
We do that, yes. Also, be aware that we are terrible at assessing and predicting dangerousness. In the place where I briefly worked, the release was contingent on the individual completing a "treatment program" that in fact did not exist - a major reason for my departure along with the risk to my professional license and the immorality of imprisoning people illegally.
@msc545 yes I do see your point. And recently a Manson family chick finally got released after being technically a political prisoner by the governor of Cali. Same in U. K. where politicians promise killers they will never get out. Just makes them political prisoners.
But seriously, sexual predation is not curable, does not stop (that we know) and I’m fully supportive of keeping even attempted violent rapists locked up. Perhaps in a hospital instead of prison.
@OddBeMe I am not a psychiatrist but I get the feeling that one becomes a rapist by being sexually abused as a child and it becomes etched in their mind. An effect of the cycle of child abuse.
I don't know if child abusers in general are just as incurable but I would imagine this would be a very similar process if they are at least treatable.
@Snakeyes7 True! I think that’s probably the majority of absuers. Still doesn’t mean we let them out if Psych’s say they’re going to hurt innocent children. Again treatment and institutions and research will only help us learn about them.
I’m pretty sure that’s already the case
So I guess it depends on the state and federal government has made it incredibly hard for people committed of domestic violence to get a gun, but there is a loophole called the boyfriend law
