Why do people have this double standard?

In 18 year old woman sign her life away to go to war and die but if a 40 year old guy hits her up, all of a sudden her consent isn't so meaningful and people view her as some poor teen being taken advantage of by a dirty old man!

Uhh.. are you guys aware how predatory military recruiting officers are? And how that can result in you being traumatized for life or being dismembered? Or killed? No? Still worried about the 40-year-old? Okay..

For the record, I never engaged in ephebophilia. I didn't have a fetish for teens once I was out of my teens. Although all of my girlfriends happened to be younger than me by at least 2 years. So, actually, when I turned 20, the girlfriend I had been with for a couple of years was still not quite 18. The biggest age gap was when I was 36 and formed a long-term relationship with a 30 year old.

When I was 16, my first girlfriend was 14. She and my other girlfriends in high school was as physically mature as they could be. They could have been Playboy models.

But I agree with your point. I think 18 year old women are grown up. They certainly are not children. 16 year olds can drive and, in some places, are beyond the age of consent. All 18 year olds are past the age of consent, can vote, and can enlist in the military. So why can't they choose who they want to date?

Some teens get fake IDs and get into clubs. So what if they hook up with older guys?

Some women are attracted to older men.

There were girls in my 8th grade class who were dating boys in high school. Once women pass through puberty, many of them are horny and eager to experience their new, womanly bodies.

I'm opposed to coercion and any form of predatory behavior. But I don't have the patriarchal attitude that young women in particular need to be protected from their own sexuality.

And I'll add that women of any age who are beyond puberty can look beautiful and sexy. Acknowledging that is not creepy or perverted, it's just a fact.

Because it's natural to expect a grownass man to protect a girl so labelling him a predator is easy. It's unusual for women to go to war in the last few thousand years because war is ugly and brutal. There's no place for femininity on the battlefield.

Well... generally speaking no. It is the same situation as in a women is taken advantage of by being in a spot where she is still innocence in some decisions but not all. You need a legal age that sets a limit though.
The consequences are the same as in both can ruin a life if you dont act like a thoughfull adult. Yes one is generally more dangerous, but the decision can be life changing in both cases. by the way. you asked if this is a double standart that one is worse than the other. Getting pregnant when not wanting it and getting shot while not wanting it is the same. Generally in both cases people should just be able to use all options available to get rid of that problem. Medical aid!

As unpleasant as pregnancy is, unless the pregnancy goes wrong, it is not going to be anything like getting shot through your guts or having one of your eyes blown out.

Look at the rates of soldiers that kill themselves and then look at the rates of women who kill themselves because of pregnancy. I think that will say a lot.

My main point though, is that it's weird how a younger woman being sexually active with an older man is seen as creepy but a military recruiter luring young people into trauma and death is not seen as creepy.

I just wish there was an age where a clear line was drawn and people were considered adults, 100% responsible for their own actions. No age 21 for drinking, no weird ages for congress, just a flat age that represents adulthood in its totality.

That is not true at all. An older man can benefit a woman in numerous ways while not endangering her life.

The military recruiting practices are predatory and can get you traumatized, mutilated or killed far more likely than some random 40-year-old will. Military service is so traumatic that more service members commit suicide than die in combat.

But yeah, sure.. the 40-year-old guy dating the 18-year-old is the real threat, not the organization that will feed her into some pointless war and get her killed.

Females in the military get special treatment and often times aren't in combat mos. Sure there are some that do get killed while deployed but it's a small number. It's overall a benefit for anyone to be in the military.

And nah love vs a job are totally different things and most people can see the differences there. She can easily get out of the military (women have it way easier for that). She cannot easily get out of a abusive relationship.

And for real don't believe that suicide shit is from trauma. I know a guy that just killed himself last weekend for getting in trouble for rape. They have their own issues that aren't military related

And nah his case was bad. He forced like 10 other people to join in and rape this girl while they flimmed it. Did it during training so he was getting kicked out for it. Also his wife left him so might be why he did it
