"“The DeSantis legislature kicked everyone off of vote by mail at the end of the year so beginning January 1st it’s up to us to go and re-enroll and vote by mail,” said Viri Ryan, a registered voter in Lee County.

It’s so serious that Lee County Election Supervisor Tommy Doyle is sounding the alarm.

“Right now it seems pretty serious. It’s unprecedented because this is the first time everyone’s request for vote by mail has expired,” Doyle stated.

What if more voters don’t sign up to vote by mail? Doyle said it could mean trouble for many counties.

“It would overwhelm Election Day polls and we want to avoid that at all cost,” Doyle explained.

In Collier County, there are about 50,000 fewer mail ballots slated to go out.

In Charlotte County, last year there were 34,00 vote-by-mail requests and currently they have just 5,600.

“We’re going to do everything we can to notify voters. We’re going to send out mailers. We don’t want to be inundated with requests and try to process those and just swamp our staff,” Doyle said.

Voters technically have 12 days before the election to request a vote-by-mail ballot.

Voters who don’t want to pay a visit to the election office can request a ballot online or call the Supervisor of Elections office.

In the past absentee ballots were mostly used by people in the military, the sick or elderly and college students living in another state. Everyone else voted in person on election day. We would have the results the same day or at most the next day. We have gone backwards and need to go back to the way elections were held in the past. I think Gov Desamtis is trying to do that. Maybe it is the only way to purge the election rolls to weed out people that are dead or moved away.

Mail in ballots make it easy to cheat. There is no way to verify where they came from or who sent them. In some districts a signature is required but most of the time signatures are not checked if they are it is ineffective. In person voting on election day with a picture ID is the only way to insure an honest election. I find it interesting that it is the democrats that are the only ones screaming to resist going back to this way of voting.

I just showed you the statistics from 2012, and particularly in Florida it ws Republicans who wanted mail-in ballots, because they generally went Republican. They never had any problem with them until 2020, when they were essential to keep people safe in the middle of a pandemic..

What's big deal? There as always an expiration on absentee voting in Florida and ID requirements. The main change is that you can request ballots for 2 years now instead of 4 years. It takes like 2 minutes online to do that.

There's not really much difference between a 2 year renewal date and a 4 year renewal date. Each time you are renewing before a major federal election. I'd say this is the most reasonable time to do it anyway. If you consider when most people got on the absentee voting bandwagon it was during the 2020 election due to COVID. So their 4 year cycle would have ended just prior to the 2024 election anyway. It only really impacts people that chose to vote by absentee during the 2022 midterms for the first time. People that vote in midterms tend to be the more consistent voters anyway. They are the people that know elections are coming and do what is necessary to get to the polls or request a ballot. It's really a non issue.

What imaginary world are you living in? 1) Everyone can show up to the polls on voting day and cast a vote. You don't need an absentee ballot to vote in America. It is a convenience option. 2) Absentee ballots are typically received in the mail by voters over a month before election day. If it doesn't show up in your mail box like regular, most people will ask questions. Guess what, you have until 5 p. m. on the 12th day before Election Day to request an absentee ballot. That means you have 3 or 4 weeks to say, heh wait a minute my absentee ballot didn't show up this year, maybe I should check the status online and renew my request, make a call and sort it out, or go down town and talk to someone in person and make a request if you really want an absentee ballot. You'd have to be mentally incapacitated to not be able to figure it out and guess what, in Florida if you are mentally incapacitated in relation to elections then you are not eligible to vote. But thhey sure will give you every oppertunity to pove you can handle it by sending you mailers reminding you that you should renew your absentee ballot if you want one. Several months before the election you will get a sample ballot to educate you on your options. You will get tons of post cards from candidates. You will get tons of calls and text messages trying to get out the vote. People will knock on your door and remind you to vote. On every street corner there will be people holding up signs trying to get you to vote. But if you fail all of that, then you might forget to vote I guess.

What happens to the queues at polling places if there are thousands more people trying to vote than usual? Which areas are more likely to be underfunded and overwhelmed by them? Rural areas, or urban ones? Rich areas or poor ones?

In Florida we have many different voting precincts in pretty much every single neighborhood that are divided up into districts. A typical small to mid-size city has over 250 polling locations. A larger city will have over 1000 polling locations. Then we have supervised drop boxes on top of that for absentee voting as well as the option to mail in your ballot at thousands of US postal service mail boxes. Every residence also has a postal address with mail box on it were mail can be sent/handed off to a postal service worker. In Florida we also have several weeks of early voting before election day for people that are busy that particular day like for example if they had work scheduled even though pretty much everyone can use I was voting as an excuse for being late. When I voted in person, I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes to get in the door. You typically only get long lines after 5 PM on election day for last minute voters and polls are usually open until 7 PM. There is so much opportunity to vote it's kind of ridiculous when people make excuses as to why they didn't.

If your mail-in ballot doesn't appear, you'll likely vote in person, and the system can say your vote was cast twice.

@msc545 There is only one company that makes the paper that the treasury dept makes money with. My friend's college roommate's family owned the company and he runs it now. The procedure to make the paper is a secret and it is really hard to duplicate. That is how you can tell. Fake ballots are just made out of regular paper. A woman got video of two guys in a van that unloaded a box full of "ballotlike" paper. She submitted a signed affidavit declaring she saw what looked like voter fraud. There was a hearing but the guys that ran it said that it was impossible to tell if those pieces of paper were indeed ballots. Once they got into the ballot box however it was impossible to tell the real ones from the fake ones.

This hearing was actually televised. It was in Georgia. After I saw this any doubt that the election was not rigged disappeared. For one thing there was a video of the two guys and a video of the white van. If the FBI can track every single person that was in DC on Jan6th they could track down these two guys just to ask them what was in those boxes. Naturally it never happened because they already knew what the answer would be.

You would think that. However nobody found any. How convenient was that especially since nobody bothered to look. A poll worker testified that all they had to do was look at the ballots. Some of them were in pristine condition. Those were the fake ones, The rest were all beat up and creases. Those were the real ones. This was never investigated further. I think that the American public deserved to have those questions answered. If the democrats were not afraid of the results then why not appoint a non partisan group to conduct the investigations? Why were there no study of the 1000+ people who came forward with charges of voter fraud? There was so much chaos and so much fraud and nobody wanted to really get to the bottom of it. There was a mivie called 2000 Mules that was an expose of the election. It was only allowed to run in a handful of theaters and when it played to sellout movie theaters it was scrubbed completely. They interviewed people as they were coming out of the theater. The vast majority said that they were not sire the election was stolen but after seeing the movie they were convinced that it was. Soon after it disappeared from theaters it was scrubbed from the internet. So much for free speech I guess.

This is not what I am talking about. It was in Georgia and after the polls closed a van pulls up and two guys get out and hand off a couple of boxes to the guy that ran the polls. The woman that testified had been a poll worker for many years and recognized that this was not an ordinary occurrence. She also said she was a registered Democrat and was just interested in a fair election The guys running the hearing saw the video and decided that they could not tell if the pieces of paper were ballots or not. And then called the whole matter settled. The question is why not identify the guys in the White van? At least have them come in for questioning,? Leaving it like this creates more questions than it answers.
