Is walking a good way to lose weight?

I live in Florida and now that it's not as hot as Satan's butthole I can enjoy the great outdoors again! So I've decided to start walking again, I like to start out with fast walking, then work my way up to jogging. I do about a mile and a half a day right now, it takes me less than 30 minutes. I've only been doing this for not even a week so I obviously don't want to overload my body because lets face it if I work out too much too soon I'm going to become tired and full of excuses. I've been eating very well and if I have a sweet tooth craving I'll eat fruit or have a granola bar that has bits of chocolate in it. I don't want to join a gym because I've lost 100 pounds without the use of a gym and I have found that I become lazier while working out in a gym versus working out in the great outdoors. Anywho am I on the right track? I know that there's a lot of fit people on this website who could probably give me some advice, I also have 10 pound weights that I'm going to start using for arm exercises as well lunges and squats to kick it up a notch, I'm roughly 15 pounds overweight if you base it off of a chart and I have a larger bone structure so I'm basically one of those girls who can weigh 150 pounds and look like they only weigh 130, yay genetics! Any tips would be appreciated, if you're going to make rude comments at least have the confidence to not do it anonymous. Thnx!
