So what even is American culture exactly? Is it normal that things just kind of feel bland, boring and uninspiring in America?

What I mean is aside from people just being crazy obsessed with American football and stuff, I don’t really know what sets us apart from the rest of the world. Other countries have fast food.

Other countries listen to our music and watch our tv shows as well.

So what is there really that sets us apart? The lack of universal healthcare? Corrupt capitalism? High rates of drug use and homelessness in major cities?

I’m not one of those guys that just goes around in life demanding everybody owe me something but truthfully I struggle to find anything that would convince me life in the US is better than most countries in Europe.

Too many people are materialist, consumerist, selfish, spoiled, dramatic, immature, lazy, ignorant. Especially the younger generation I live in.

I really can’t think of too many things positive. Clinging to WW2 nostalgia and our proud moments of the past like the Cold War is all we can really hope to do.

I don’t even mean to come off as a leftist or anything. I don’t fundamentally hate America and our values. I’m not one of those woke warriors who thinks everything is racism and oppression.

I’m only saying, at least with Biden at the helm, and the leftist media, everything is in very visible social and economic decline.

And I get along perfectly fine with older people, its just at least among my peers, most of them tend to piss me off because of how lazy, spoiled and brainwashed they are.

We do have a culture here but in many ways it’s hard to recognize. We do have “American food” per sey but it’s rather ununique compared to most other cultures food. We have pioneered most modern music. Jazz, Blues, Country, Rock N Roll, Rap. All American inventions. We do have our holidays. So far as clothing, we’ve been trend setters in modern clothing. Jeans, sneakers, board shorts, and blumers (from around 100 years ago) all American. Language wise we don’t really have our own language as standard American English is little different from the the British speak English. We have no religion associated with our culture. We a secular. Americans have a number of God’s they worship. The founding fathers were deists, mainly a few were Christian. Christianity has had the most influence of all religions and Judeo-Christian principles are what many of our laws are based upon. Our laws and way of life that is our freedom is based on the philosophies for men like John Locke, Rousseau, Voltaire, and other enlightenment philosophers. So freedom would be a major feature of our culture. We have dances also, from swing dancing and the jitterbug to line dancing and the Macarena, there are quite a few forms of dancing that are American inventions, not to forget the Charleston ala the 1920’s


So we do in a sense have culture, but I agree in that it’s mostly boring and bland. You don’t really see the distinct cultures such as were in Europe anymore. Modernization and globalization have made Western Europe and America little different in terms of modern culture. As far as Asian, African, South and Central American, Native American and indigenous peoples inhabiting the Americas, modernization and globalization has taken effect but they still retain many elements of their cultures.


Compared to the cultures of Europe prior to 1600, yeah…America is boring culture wise. However we are trend setters and have greatly influenced other cultures world wide.

that is not normal feeling. we have baseball. personal freedom. all-american music festivals with various styles. unique? anthem and western ideas that spread to other countries but not all.

healthcare, dont forget medicare for poor. long before obamacare. if not poor then pay for it.

America is a great country! I love being an American! We have great opportunities for the young and the old and the non English speakers even the illegal immigrants can make it here.
so.. what happened to America?
I have traveled to many countries throughout my adulthood - from Asia to Europe to South America…I tend to stay long period of time to observe and interact with the locals…one thing I picked up from my travels and my encounter with immigrant families are - they value and respect family/education. They teach their kids finances.
who is doing that in America? Social media?
the news is not posting the family who eat together, who are successful. Why?

i get the feeling everything is dead culturally right now... i don't get a sense of great books being written, great music being made... great movies being made... or anything i do get a sense of turmoil and destruction... i see crime... i see anal sex being the thing... i hate to bring sex into it but why such derrogtory concepts premeating our culture... are women really expected to do these things... and you know i'm right from all the anal sex questions on here... girls wearing record short skirts and dresses... have they society made us into porn stars.

This is the result of social media. When I was a kid everyone wanted to dress like the Beatles but what we are seeing today is real brainwashing. Still there are some that still have that individualism that I used to see. I see it with some of the members here. Some people are really lost but a few stand out

@WhiteBoyChill there is a container ship that is as big as 3 football fields. It goes between China and the port of LA. It coms to LA practically awash in cheaply made Chinese goods and goes back practically empty. Before Trump became president I was the only one that saw anything wrong with this.
