If an adult punched back a 12 year-old kid hard (the kid was taller and older) would they still be charged?

Scenario:

Let's say it's a 12 year-old kid (can be an 5'8 boy or 5'7 girl; they're not that skinny and they looked older than their age due to puberty) that punched the adult first.

The adult punched back as hard as possible without thinking (they weren't in imminent danger, it wasn't a life-death situation and the kid had no weapon; it was pure retaliation) and really busted their lips, broke their nose or knock them out. The kid got punched like a full adult. While the minor's punch didn't do damage, yours did.

Now the child's parents and other family members are pressing charges. Would they still get charged for aggravated assault against a minor?

The adult had no idea it was a 12 year-old kid. They thought that young person was in his/her mid teens.
