Imagine you are a potential criminal.

You own a gun and need cash today!
Gun laws are so strict that, because of your job as a security guard, you have the privilege to own a firearm.

You know the public isn't armed and you have 2 options rob the liquor store or the gun shop. 10/10 times your not robbing the gun shop.

Now remove the gun laws.
Your potential victims have the option to have the same power as you do.

The liquor store is just as much of a life threatening risk as the gun shop.

Your out of options, you can't even mug anyone without the possibility of being incapacitated on the street. Maybe you turn to burglary of an empty house, building, parked car, or other another non-violent crime.

Point being that people who wish to do wrong to others are deterred when facing equally powered confrontation.

Criminals don't give a shit about "wrong" or "deterrent". Nor do they care what size of gun you have or amount of ammo. Also, chances are there are more of them, than you and your fucking pop gun, anyway. It's why they are sentenced and put away.

Deterrents are for opportunistic people, and petty thieves. The type of people who know a stint in jail means homelessness, and end of their career if they fuck around.

All people, criminal or not, are wired to seek the "easiest" route. so when resistance to your plans includes someone with equal power you will factor in possibility of weaker targets. Just imagine if they pass a law which requires you to pass special training for your guns and special storage safes, guns and ammo seperated, ... and so on.

Gun control half measures don’t work because only the law abiding people follow it. The only way to effectively cut down on gun violence is to take them from everyone. The legal gun market feeds the illegal market. You have to remove guns from the equation entirely to make a real difference and our US constitution forbids that, so we are effectively stuck where we’re at and have to live with the consequences.

Let's imagine all the guns were taken. The would be criminal will now must use another form of leverage for power over victims. Like a knife or a machete. Removing guns doesn't fix violent crime. The viont crine rate will remain the same as the tools for leverage change but the people's power to resist oppression will decrease.

It won’t fix violent crime altogether but it does remove the most efficient means of killing others. Without guns, we wouldn’t have mass shootings or drive by shootings. Criminals would have to use less lethal weapons with less ability to inflict mass casualties. There’s no question society would be safer but under our constitutional system and current political environment, that isn’t possible so it’s useless to even debate really.

You are correct but it's double edged for that efficiency. Effective for offense and Effective for defense. Why would anyone want to weaken their own defense? Also have you heard of the mass stabbings in European grocery stores/ shopping facilities? Or maybe mass bludgeoning in other crowded areas? Tools can change but the bigger problem isn't addressed.

You have a much higher chance of surviving a knife or blunt force attack, than being shot. You also don’t have the ability to kill from a distance or to inflict multiple casualties within seconds with a knife or club. Even though I own and regularly carry a gun, I know they are a scourge on humanity. I would gladly give mine up if they were taken from everyone. It doesn’t solve the root cause of violence but it does reduce the ability to carry it out as efficiently and on a large scale.

I promise you the removal of guns from law abiding citizens will not effect crime rates. Grenades are definitely not legal to own in most countries yet I personally have purchased them for $125 each. They are readily available but in my opinion they are overpriced likely due to the risk involved in smuggling. The same group sells bullet proof apparel for roughly $150.
Nonetheless the legality of tools may seem to hinder crime but truthfully the crime will remain until the problem is resolved.
The main difference between legal guns and no legal guns is your ability to defend yourself with an equal power to your adversary.

We have 0-3 murders a year.
People aren't getting mugged
Armed robbery is extremely rare
I walk unlit roads regularly including a 100 yard unlit tunnel at night unarmed

Criminals don't carry guns because if they're caught it severely increases their sentence.

I feel that Government ntervention shouldn't be considered in regards to fixing this issue. Governments seek power and have been known use exploitation as a means to obtain it. I dont believe in relying on Governments and don't wish to relinquish what little freedoms we have left. As a society it's seemingly impossible to accommodate every walk of life and their individual circumstances. It would take more time, effort, and resources than I possess to resolve the issue.

So in regards to your question, Employers arm security guards. In relation to my hypothetical scenario you could be one of the many armed security guards who can possess a firearm and use it against the unarmed civilians of your hypothetical governed land to get the money you need. Or Maybe someone stole your gun and uses it for their future crimes. Now your in trouble for losing the gun and there is a gun available for countless other criminals to purchase.
