What would be a good punishment for a school bully ages 12 and over?

Bullying has obviously gotten worse by now. There were cases of the bullied victim either committing suicide or hurting the bully.

Obviously a child ages 12 and above isn't going to listen to a full lecture on treating people how you would like getting treated nor be sincere in their apology if they're send to the principal's office and made to shake hands and apologize to each other, lol. They're going to go back to bullying others or be subtle about it, only apologizing if caught but really learning nothing.

I'm not proud of this but I once punched a bully when I was 14, drawing blood. There was no ''say sorry'' nor making peace. Both of us got suspended. We just never spoke to each other since. But seriously what would be a good (effective) punishment for an older school bully that age? They're aren't actually little kids anymore and were sure having a good laughing bullying others.

When I worked in a k/12 system there was a kid in high school who was bullying another kid. The teachers and administrators did nothing to help. The kid ended up going to the cops and swearing out a complaint. The bully was arrested and charged with assault which it was. The kids parents had to get a lawyer and take time off from work. I don't know how it all ended up but I bet the bullying stopped. You have to hit them in their bank accounts.

When I punched the bully, I didn't care about the consequences of a suspension by then. I had no regrets at the time.

It's not like the old days where someone would try to bully you to your face and after school you would knock them out and they get all red and embarrassed running home like a little fairy and it was over and done with As to your question most bullying nowadays is online with these anonymous online trolls with too much free time on their hands but the laws are taking these issues more seriously and treating these aggressors as adults

Yeah nowadays they hide under a screen to avoid consequences, lol. I'm actually glad whenever those pathetic aggressors get treated like adults. Come to think of it, imagine if an adult spilt water or juice at you, call you names and laughed at you... that wouldn't be bullying but rather harassment and hitting wouldn't be physical bullying but assault and/or battery.

Stop calling them a bully. If you do the same stuff as an adult you're held criminally responsible. It does no one any favour by saying its just bullying and doesn't prepare these kids for the real world.

Very true indeed. If an adult kept on calling you names and following you around, laughing at you, taunting you and not leaving you alone.. for sure it wouldn't be emotional/bullying either but harassment and they would get charged for that too.

best solution is for the victim to be able to fight back and not care about the consequences

yeah I didn't give a rats about getting suspended at the time. I felt good at least I was left alone afterwards. Whether the bully pick on someone else afterwards I don't know.
Then by the time someone is in their last year of HS (17-18 years old) and still bullying, I have no hope for them by then. That's way too old to be bullying.
