Is the term Hottentot too offensive for children?

The film Mary Poppins has now been reclassified as PG (parental guidance) because a character uses the word Hottentot in reference to some children with soot covered faces.

Hottentot was the name given to people living in the western cape of south Africa and is used twice by a retired captain in the film.

As you can imagine the British Tabloids are screaming WOKE but what's your opinion?
