Reading the article adds a bit more context. She shoots it after it's attacked another farm's chickens and it's aggressive. That's a red flag. My brother-in-law was looking after my dog for us a few years ago and it killed his cat. My first instinct was to take it to be put down. He begged us not to so we eventually agreed, but I never trusted the dog near another animal again.
If you're in the country running a smallholding or a commercial farm an animal you can't trust is a liability.
I laugh at city dwellers who've never seen a henhouse after a fox got in it. Or a flock of sheep after they've had a couple of dogs go through off the lead. Even cattle.
I love my dogs, but if I had a gun at the time I'd have shot that one myself. It's a country thing. Same with the goat. Sure it looks cute, but only until it gores a child with those horns. If it's butting children already it goes in the pot.
I'm a country boy. If you don't like it that's not a "me" problem, it's a "you" one. Where did you think the meat and milk in your freezer came from?
Does not change the fact that she was in charge of both training the dog and securing it so it would not run away and kill other peoples chickens. The dog was only 14 years old as well and the behavior it displayed, according to her which is a biases source, was not unrecoverable.
That dog could have been rehabilitated fairly easily. She decided not to because she is lazy/incompetent and because she hated the dog (according to herself). Going above and beyond to try help that dog without killing it would have spoken of her character, likewise taking the "easy" path also speaks a lot of her character. She is exactly the kind of person I thought she was and this proves it.
Not really. From experience, once a dog gets the taste for blood it's incredibly difficult to rehabilitate it. City dogs don't have the same issue because they don't get into a henhouse, so they don't get the taste for the kill. And city owners don't understand why taking the next 8 months or more to rehabilitate the dog is a problem on a working farm or smallholding.
Any dog still has a hunting urge in it instinctively. It's not irresponsible to end the life of a dog that's got a taste for the kill if that dog is supposed to be a working dog that's there to protect that livestock. Irrespective of whether the animals are bantam chickens or brahma cattle.
Would you trust a dog that had ever killed another creature with your child? I definitely wouldn't.
First of all, the dog was 14 months old. It is still a puppy. You would not even expect them to be fully trained at that age. Also she was trying to train a hunting dog, that already takes a very long time to train so having to spend 8 months (bullshit) to rehabilitate the dog is not an argument against it.
And lastly, if she can't do it she should just rehome the dog somewhere else to someone who is a more responsible dog owner. You are making some very bad excuses here and if you want to claim that this is "normal" in the countryside then all you are doing is painting them in a worse light.
things are different on farms. Sarah Palin did a great video... with Turkeys being slaughtered in the background.
Most people cannot relate to the realities in such places... like shooting wolves... certainly not those in the cities where there are "standards" of euthensia utilized daily on perfectly good animals. That's a nice word for kill...
Everyone complaining should stop buying stuff from China and Korea... because they eat those creatures and some of their fur stuff is coming from such animals. Their treatment is not good.
Her decisions politically, I'm in synch with.
On another note, how does this compare to Biden slaughtering a family of Afghans by directive? How does it compare to being the "mafia boss" in a sense... providing the means for Israel to slaughter children with bombs and bullets?
It's a good political topic, it may even work. But someone that knows death and misery... especially in the experience of military, and detests it, I'd prefer.
Oh... and how exactly would that relate to the people slaughtering their unborn offspring before they are born? No female that has done such a thing should complain... but they will.
Thank GOD... it wasn't a cat... she'd lose all cat lady votes.

If Mitt Romney didn;t put that dog on the roof of his car he would have been president,. Shooting a dog is a bad move. Might as well kick an old lady/
You don't have a lot of choice when you have a dog that kills several other animals and attacks people.
She could have taken the dog to a no-kill shelter or given it to a rescue organization. There were many alternatives, but she was hell-bent on killing the dog - and 20 years later, had the exceedingly poor judgment to make what she did public, thereby ruining her chances to be the vice president.
@msc545
Not sure they had no-kill shelters in South Dakota 20 years ago, nor that would I agree it would have been a better outcome.
I think its clear she did the right thing and that she had the fortitude to do it only proves her more qualified for office in showing she won't bend a knee for emotional reasons.
As for its political consequences that may be soo among today's electorate far too much of it is sick enough to value the life of a proven viscous animal over a innocent human baby. Evident of the moral corruption and anti-human propaganda generations have been subjected to by the left.
Such a people are either ignorant of the nature of animals and men, or see the innocent of animals in their acting out the simplest and most barbaric of emotions.
An idea of virtue that too often leads them to become a threat to themselves and the men around them much.
If you want someone good at politics your going to vote for Joe Biden either way. Joe has 40 years of experience playing political games. Nome really would only win an election among voters who want results. Nome has gotten great results for her state.
@msc545 Noem even less fit the definition of "Fascist" than Trump.
Noem is perhaps the least authoritarian governor we have as demonstrated by her refusal to lock down and instead follow the state's Constitution.
Is not a corporatism ( in favor of micromanaging companies via goverment regulation and direction) nor like most everyone else you soo charge is there any evidence she is a racist.
If your looking for a fascist you will find the current president a far better fit for all the required qualifications. Unfortunately he does not preside in a goverment that gives him enough power, thou he has certainty tried to wield it.
@msc545 The fact that you say that without any evidence about every republican candidate really does undermine your credibility on any issue.
As pointed out Joe Biden has said and done far more racist things than Trump or Noem have ever said or done. Joe Biden is far more interested in authoritarianism, and goverment control of companies than all a few republicans.
Theses facts put Joe Biden like most democrat far more in line with fascism than the people you name. But clearly you have a inoffensive definition of fascism.
The dog was murdering someone else's chickens. If you can't take tough decisions you can't be President.
Hey I’ve had to shoot a dog. It’s not pleasant. Would you rather have Harris?
